You know, I have seen just about enough crap from the Daily Times than one person can stand. Today's paper on line is loaded with crap and some how this stood out to me and really ticked me off.
You see Folks, this is how you manufacture a future article. However, with only one comment it seems pretty clear it's not working the way they'd like.
Here's a manufactured question for a future article for Salisbury News. Who gives a flying sh!t what Greg Bassett is doing? I'll bet his own Wife can't follow him on Twitter but I'd bet even more she doesn't give a crap either.
In the mean time, this is what they have produced for this Saturday. I'll tell you what Daily Times, what do YOU think so far of the new Mayor. By the way, He's Mayor Ireton, show some respect, he's clearly earned it.
Let's try this one out for size. Folks, what do you think of Greg Bassett at the Daily Times, so far?????

I think Greg Bassett has led an okay small town paper into the abyss of the lowest quality and slimy journalism I have seen in my 69 years.
Trust it should not be abused.
Greg Bassett is a sick man. It is
obvious he needs mental help. I'm
sure he dipping at the bottom of the barrel to get attention. He has
lost most of his following , if he ever had much. Anyway I heard he was going down hill a while back.
What does he excell at? Nobody is
paying any attention to that idiot.

Bassett is a joke! I personally don't know how he keeps his job. Another editor, last name Carmine is also a joke. Daily Times needs new leadership desparately.
Hold on a sec Joe I was out in the yard and have to get this bassett that I stepped in off the bottom of my shoe, it stinks too!
I won't ever go back to that site, that's what's been locking up my keyboard too. No more visits, no more problems.

The articles generally raise more questions then they answer - the paper could really use some editorial help and decent, analytical reporting.
And news from Westminster is not local news.
The business section is a joke! They don't even print small business news releases. But several very lucky small stores and restaurants have been covered.
And many submissions from local non-profits go unpublished.
Everyone is complaining! Where's the local in the local news?

They show as much respect for the Mayor as you did to the former Mayor. At the very least, you respect the position, you don't have to respect the person.
No investigative reporting whatsoever. Reprinted court documents and that is about it. Even when they are given good news tips they don't pursue it. I say again, they only seem to reprint public court documents that everyone has access too and no breaking news and no follow up. For example what is the status of the Sheriff Jones investigation? That is a story that all locals would be interested in and the investigators have had sufficient time to investigate so what is going on? Will this be another Somerset Detention center cover-up?
Do some real reporting and get some answers!
I like the paper I use it to lite my wood stove in the winter.then in the summer we use it to eat crabs. Oh yeah,My bird likes it to. If it gets any smaller I will have to cut out my bird reading the paper.
Basset doesn't even have the decency to return calls. As for our Mayor - Go, Jim. He has a "tough row to hoe" and some, including Basset will try what they can to make it more difficult.
12:43 do you consider the possibility that those "lucky" small stores or restaurants might have paid for their "advertising" exposure?
Looks sort of like that glossy magazine that does similar reviews?

I have to agree with most of the comments , especially 11:33.. It's a damn shame. I used to marvel at his words of wisdom when he was a semi-regular guest on 101.1's power talk. He is clearly a legend in his own mind.
To paraphrase a comment I read many years ago. If the Daily Times is the best news source that Salisbury has to offer.....POOR SALISBURY

3:43 - I agree with you... and anyone who does not like the DT paper or on-line has the option of not purchasing it or not to go to their web-site. Easy huh? I say to each his own, it would not due for us all to like the same thing. I read the DT by choice as well as SBYnews by choice.
Some here mention real reporting.
It amazes me how a paper does smear stories like that one does. They did how many stories on Cohen and Campbell getting an ethics charge, then how many that they were cleared?
I still remember what they did to the Spies fellow.
Bassett, Carmine, that whole crew ought to be ashamed. They never called Barrie Tilghman on anything. But they printed her calling everybody else names.
There oughta be a law.
How about Chief Webster's case against me as well as Barrie Tilghman. Then there's the Rachel Polk case. Anyone who has stood up to them WON.
Greg will soon be history. Who cares what he's doing from moment to moment.
As for Mayor Ireton, Greg will never show him any respect because he's still following Barrie's orders.
This is where I come for my news.
Everyone has a boss. Who is Bassetts boss if anyone knows? Some complaints to that fellow might get Bassetts attention or get him replaced.
JT is still bashing Mike Lewis and the department. As a Taxpayer in this town I think he is barking up the wrong tree.Mike Lewis is the most honest man I have ever met. What goes around comes around I would not want to be in JT's shoes not just because of the weight thats over head butwhat he has got himself into just to piss joe off good luck with your downward spiral self mutalation

Mike Lewis is the best thing to happen in a long time. Can you imagine what crime would be like here in the 'Bury without the Sheriff's department?

You never hear about SPD confiscating money, wonder where it all goes? I've still never seen the SPD mobile command unit, where do they hide it?

He has just got elected.
Mayor Barrie Tilghman had earned respect and you showed her none.
Well see how much respect we have for mayor ireton after his first term.
I don't know him personally so I can't really say whether I like him or not.
Joe Albero supports Mike Lewis (supports SPD, which get forgotten, but not Webster.
Lynn Cathcart bashes the Sheriff's dept., praises SPD (family connection, support of Webster).
Lynn Cathcart is cozy with Muir Boda.
Muir Boda is friends with JT.
JT hates Joe Albero.

There are a lot of people who have clearly earned respect but that has never stopped you from being disrespectable to them. P S- I have no problem with Greg Bassett or the Times. If I did I would just cancel my subscription and stay away from their web-site rather than get my drawers in a twitter. Life is too short and there are much more important concerns - starting with family. Try it sometime.
