Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County will dedicate its “Green House” on Sunday, June 14 at 2 p.m. The house is located at 308 Martin Street, off of Church Street. The house has been design to incorporate ‘green’ technology and to be environmentally friendly. Everyone is invited to attend the dedication and check out the house.

It's not an actual greenhouse. It's a 'green' house that uses environmently friendly building techniques and technology in the construction. It's a home for someone to live in!

wouldn't this money have been better spent on Habitat's supposed mission; building HOMES for the needy? its pretty, but useless to a single mother whose house is falling down around her ears.

The Greenhouse will be lived in by a white male and his elderly father. All eight houses in the area built by Habitat are still looking as good as the day they were built. The homes built in this area are slowly transforming the area and with the help of dedicated volunteers and churches will succeed. HFH is a good organization. While crime is still high in this area, it takes the Police Department, Churches and a community to change the area, maybe you'd like to help rather then bash an organizaton that is making a difference? Its easy to be a part of the problem, try being a part of the solution.
I agree. Try being positive for a change and come out to see what the organization is doing before passing judgment.
Joe, thank you for covering the event. We had over 100 people attend the dedication of the "Green House". The picture does not depict Habitat's Green House. The real house has 3 bedrooms and 1 and a half baths. It's our 8th home in the Church Street area and we are very proud of the positive impact we are making in the Church Street neighborhood.

I owe you an apology, as the fact that you are harboring such false notions about Habitat shows that I am not properly doing my job. Please allow me to briefly educate you and others...
Habitat homeowners are decent, hardworking people who just need a hand up, rather than a hand out. They fall into distinct qualification guidelines regarding such things as actual need, steady employment, and a workable credit history. Upon acceptance into the program, they need to fufill several requirements, including 'sweat equity' volunteer hours and finance and home ownership classes. And when their home is completed, they PURCHASE it from Habitat - at cost, with a no-interest 20- or 30-year mortgage.
