Today's Memorial Day Service In Wicomico County
Each year I have had the pleasure of watching this ceremony grow. This year had at least double the attendance, it seems to grow about double each year.
I personally want to thank ALL of those people who took the time out of their busy holiday weekend schedule to attend this event. It means a lot to our local service men and women. More children need to attend.
Enjoy the rest of your day.

By the way, I sure do LOVE what I'm seeing out of the new leadership from the Salisbury Fire Department.
Next year, you need to go to the ceremony at the Ocean Pines memorial on Rt 589. That's a crowd.

Joe, I hope you are kidding with that comment!!
Joe, if you like what you are seeing with SFD you obviously don't know what it is to stand at parade rest. You do not bow your head while standing at parade rest. They are not military or a military faction, they are firefighters. If they want to mimic the various positions taken by military personnel maybe they should have someone teach them properly before making an attempt.
What is it you are seeing, exactly, from SFD the rest of us are not?
anonymous 1:37, It was a moment of Prayer, you Idiot.
To comment on "more children need to attend": Each year my older son (and my younger when he gets a little bigger) ventures out with the local Legion members to place flags on the graves of veterans at a number of local cemetaries. And although it is not a "joyous" occassion, we have found it to be a very educational and humbling experience for a child. It's so important for our children to know the reason they are off from school today and not just look at it like a day off. I, too, wish more parents made an effort to involve their children in a Memorial Day tradition that honors our military, especially with so much negative media they receive.
I don't care if it was a moment of prayer when standing at parade rest you do just that and nothing more. If you knew what you were talking about you wouldn't have come back with something so stupid.
Your son and father in law are Marines ask them before you spout off. Idiot.
That ceremony went great! My cadets did an outstanding job. We only had one cadet pass out this year. Last year, there was about three that passed out but we also all had our Class A uniforms on. There are some good pictures up there from the ceremony. As the officer in charge, I would like to introduce the cadets that helped out at this morning. Starting from the front, left to right then the back, left to right; Front: C/CPT. McMenamy(myself), C/CPT. Glaude, C/PVT. Blake, C/PFC. Jones, C/CPL. Henry, C/1SG. Bowie. Back: C/SGT. Doane, C/SGT. Taylor, C/CPL. Benu, C/PVT. Brown, and C/SFC. Morris
I would like to congratulate these cadets for dedicating their time at this ceremony.
Sincerely,
C/CPT. T. McMenamy
By the way, 1:37 has a good point regarding parade rest as MILITARY regulation. I was there and I heard the officer in charge of the SFD formation give the command "parade rest" and when you're at parade rest, there is no looking down no matter what the situation is. If they were trying to do military regulation drill then, if it was really necessary for them to have to bow their heads in formation, the OIC should've given the command "rest" or "at ease." I'm not really concerned about it because it isn't a branch of the military so they have different regulations in drill and ceremonies than the Marine Corps, Navy, Army, Air Force, etc. do. Even then, there is no reason why you should have to cut people down over a website. 1:37, appreciate them for coming out today and joining the ceremony. If you think it is better for them to go under more strict regulations like the military, then tell them that and explain it to them. That's how you step up to be a leader, not cut them down. Joe, there is no excuse to call him an idiot. He was just making an observation.

If anybody else would like to see more stuff from the Wi-Hi Army JROTC program, visit http://wicomicoarmyjrotc.synthasite.com/
It would be great if you could check out the website and see what hard work the cadets have done
Thank you,
C/CPT. McMenamy, T.
McMenamy, He was attacking the fine men and women who too time out of THEIR day to be there with all due respect. Give respect where it is due or be called an Idiot.
I know I also got on him about it if you hadn't read the whole thing. "1:37, appreciate them for coming out today and joining the ceremony. If you think it is better for them to go under more strict regulations like the military, then tell them that and explain it to them. That's how you step up to be a leader, not cut them down." I give plenty of respect to the fire department, especially considering that some of my fellow JROTC cadets are also in the SFD and PFD cadet programs and even volunteer firefighters. I have nothing against the fire department. A couple of my finest cadets are in SFD. They were there today. C/CPT. Glaude and C/SFC. Morris. So yeah, read the whole comment before you go calling me an idiot there pal.
~McMenamy
Also, there is one place that doesn't get respect from you where it is due. SPD, for example.
Thanks for reading,
~McMenamy
You don't give respect, so by your rules you are an idiot.
AND you respect SFD so much but yet you cut them down in a blog post from 9:10 this morning. Hmm. Doesn't make much sense to me.

Mr. Albero, with all due respect they were there because they were on duty and paid to be there. They wouldn't have been there otherwise. Thanks for allowing me to post on your blog.
By definition, fire departments are "paramilitary organizations"; meaning that we do emulate some military protocols/customs and not others. We are similar in some aspects and different in others. We have a similar command structure and utilize some of the same titles while also using different titles for our higher ranking officers. There are numerous similarities and numerous differences as well.
Should Anon 1:37 desire to educate him/herself on OUR background and customs, he/she would know this. However, it remains easier for one to hide behind a cpu screen and pick apart something that someone is trying to do for a good purpose, as is the case in this event.
As Capt. McMenamy stated, if Anon 137 is so well versed in all things military, why does he/she not offer to come and "fix" our issue?? Simple, it's easier to gripe about something than it is to fix it and some people would rather expend more energy complaining than fixing.
The fire service has its own traditions and protocols and one of those is that WE bow our heads to honor our dead. And yes, we have dead listed on that memorial. So maybe our custom isnt "right" to Anon 137, but it is to us.
Should you choose to wish to attempt to educate us in proper military protocol, or wish to educate yourself in fire service protocol, I welcome the opportunity to sit w/ you and learn/teach from/to you Anon 137. The ball is in your court.
As a side note,
To the (yet again uneducated) Anon who stated we were only there because we were required to be so and getting "paid" for it...you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about so educate yourself as well before you let such trash leave your lips...
I see NO WHERE in our job descriptions where it states that we are REQUIRED to be at any such event. The career crew that attended did so out of respect for the day and what it stands for as well as respect for our own that are listed on that monument. NO ONE told me we were REQUIRED to be there, but we were there anyway.
While we were there, we handled 3 medical emergencies and one fire call and the folks we aided were certainly happy we were there for them.
Your comment shows your ignorance as well through the FACT that nearly half of the contingency was VOLUNTEER who showed up yesterday a/m of their own accord to honor the day as well. NO ONE told them they HAD to be anywhere...for those men, it was a holiday and a day off that they couldve been spending with their families or doing whatever they darn well pleased. They chose to show respect and act as part of a unified crew and handled themselves extremely professinally both in their demeanor as well as in the aid they also rendered during the incidents that occurred during the event.
If you have to ask Joe what he's seeing that you're not (as 137 did)...maybe you need to open your eyes.
Its funny how truly only a few rag on the SFD constantly...I imagine that would change were you to need us in the event of (hopefully never) an emergency that included either you or someone you care for.
We certainly have improvements that can and will be made. But we are certainly up for the challenge and any nay-sayers that feel otherwise should either join the ranks of the volunteers or attempt to start a career with us so that you can help become part of the solution to whatever problem you "see".
Joe, thank you for the support on this one...it is much appreciated.
Respectfully,
Jim Gladwell
Is there a difference between defending the Country and building the American Empire?
Real soldiers don't kill civillians.
Decent people don't target civillians.
Americans don't pay homage to persons who violate our laws and morals during the prosecution of an illegal war.
Thank you for allowing me to post here.

We know who attacked us. It was Al Queida - and they were in Afghanistan. If we must kill a few Afghanni people in the process, then so be it. American lives must be revenged.
American lives are worth a lot more than some Afghanni tribes people.
