Offshore Powerboat Racing Returns To Ocean City

Offshore Powerboat Racing returns to Ocean City, Maryland for the first leg of the Miss Geico Triple Crown. For the fourth year in a row the Offshore Performance Association and Miss Geico Racing will bring the biggest and fastest boats on the planet back to the beaches of Maryland. “Ocean City is a great race with great people that are so happy to have us here” says OPA President Eddie Smith “We are very happy to be starting our race season in Ocean City.”

On May 30th and 31st, 2009 fifty plus race boats will take over Sunset Marina in West Ocean City where spectators can come and view the boats in the wet and dry pits. Events for the weekend will start with the teams arriving on Friday then heading to Secrets Bar and Grill for the 2009 season kickoff party. Then race mode sets in as the teams start to get the boats ready for testing on Saturday and racing on Sunday.

Races will be held on Sunday at 12 noon and 2:00 pm and can be viewed from the beaches between 4th and 42nd streets. “Ocean races are always tough because they can be so much harder on the boats, yet it’s great for the fans to watch from the beach” says Marc Granet, driver of the Miss Geico entry.

The best thing about this event is that it is free for spectators to watch the races and visit the pits where they can get right next to the boats and ask questions of the crew. For a full schedule of events please go to www.oparacing.org.
