Helicopter-Gate . . . .Saga Continues

A private investigator has recently been assigned by the DLA - Defense Logistics Agency - to investigate the procurement procedure and where-a-bouts of the mysterious missing helicopter that was donated to the Somerset County Sheriffs Department.

The Daily Times editor, Greg Bassett, reported on WQMR radio that the helicopter had been seen being transported via rollback from one abandoned chicken house in Somerset County to yet another abandoned chicken house in Wicomico County. The surplus military helicopter was obtained by the Somerset County Sheriffs Department through a grant request with the assistance of Greg Bassett's wife.

The tri-county council rejected the operational request from the Sheriff's Department after the helicopter was obtained citing high operational cost for the program.

The helicopter was also spotted being stored in Sam Goldman's hangar at the Salisbury-Ocean City airport before being transported to an abandoned chicken house in Somerset County. Moreover, the helicopter was sited several times being flown around Wicomico County. It has a military camouflage paint job.

As I recall this story, I believe it was purchased brand new through a Homeland Security Grant. IMHO, it was a total abuse of the system, as were many of the Motor Home Conversions, in which you only see the County one used once or twice a year. It was at the Salisbury Festival near the Parking Garage.

This Chopper was housed at the airport and mainly Wicomico County. I'll do some digging on this tomorrow and find out where it is currently. It shouldn't be too hard to find out.

If you'll recall, some suggested a few months ago that I purchase it and use it as a SBYNews Chopper like WBOC does.

Joe, if you purchase it and use it, please don't use it like WBOC does. What a waste! Pictures of local scenery, school fire drills, scenes of a fire that has already been extinguished, etc. Oh, yeah, don't forget weather forecasts somehow supposed to be more exciting because they're "live from chopper 16." What a waste!

On the other hand, I somehow think you'd be on the scene of something helicopter-worthy long before WBOC would even hear of it.

Whats up with all the deleted post on all the threads? result of yesterday and cleaning up the hate speech?

This helicoptor never had anything to do with the Somerset Co. Sheriffs Office. It was Russ Pecoraro and the Princess Anne Poice Dept.

Also Joe check into something the Somerset Co. Commissioners have voted secretly to take the Sheriffs Office's boat and give it to the Ewell Fire Dept. No more services to Smith Island from the Sheriffs Office. THe Sheriff and Chief Deputy are livid. One Commissioner was quoted as saying I don't care I didn't get that many votes over there anyway. What a county.

i think the only truth in beezers post is the word helicopter. everything else reported is wrong. how do you rationalize posting rumors and speculations as fact when you have not checked into them. next time please make some calls before you post things you know very little about.

all those deleted posts must be true comments hence the deletions. just another story to stir the pot. nothing to do with nothing

I was wondering about the comments deleted by the poster as well. Did not know that you could post something and remove it yourself.

Look...the Sheriffs Office boat was nothing but a fishing boat for the Chief Deputy. Any patrols he was doing on the island were a joke anyway. Everyone knew when he was coming over.

Good for them. Let Ewell FD have it. It's a waste of taxpayer dollars anyway. Insurance, Slip fees, maintenance etc...all for Deputy Dan to have a toy to play with.
