There is only one reason for the signs in my yard and why I have been on foot for a few times this term helping to spread the word: It Is The Right Thing To Do For The Right People. Don't insult the people who have kept us free get out and vote
OK, now in continuation, this is how I saw the mayoral candidates during the NAACP forum....
Caldwell Summary: Caldwell is a local superstar, a guy of true intelligence based, quite simply, on years of experience. That said, Caldwell's responses were less than exciting. Based on this particular forum, I think Mr. Caldwell's chances are unfortunately limited. His presence is one appreciated by local folks, who appreciate the reality, and business like nature of local government. While that sells with some of the population, I don't think it sells to the particular, very small, portion of the voters who will turn out tomorrow. If it did, we would either be celebrating or regreting the end of Ross Perot's presidency right now. He's just a guy (with a slightly stale superman image) who definitely wants things to improve, but whose limited answers gave no suggestion of how he would provide repair. All that said, the best people I know in this world aren't good presenters in community conditions. This guy gets one of my votes tomorrow, but I wonder if it's not a wasted ballot. Mad credit for Mr. Caldwell's overwhelming willingness to serve both now and in previous efforts and his willingness in the past to present strong arguments on very complex issues, even when not elected to do so.
Comegy's Summary: Comegy's also doesn't present well in these kind of situations. Nerves seem to be a problem. Again, as I mentioned earlier related to the Council candidates, this forum did not warrant the nervousness. Again, we're talking local politics... I give Comegy's credit for not just simply fighting development without consideration. There's not a developer in this community that's building infrastructure that they don't know will draw sales from a community desire to live in the area (ok, not a smart one).. Development needs to happen but a focus on smart development is important. Don't ask a developer to develop the core of salisbury when buyers aren't interested. That's just dumb. I think Gary and everyone else on council has made mistakes, based on political affiliations and personal priorities, again "local" governement. I give stupid mad respect to Comegy's for his willingness to serve, especially in the face of opposition like most of this site. I'll say it again, these decisions aren't easy. At times this site would make you think that these views are wide spread, but the reality is that we are still a community of lazy, uninvolved voters that don't show up when the most is at stake. Comegy's did not come off well, from an outsiders view in this forum or in his spot where he was interviewed in council chambers. Can the opponents overcome his very recognizable name.... won't be easy.
Ireton Summary: unfortunately Ireton presents to me exactly as my first impression of obama. This guy, obviously a gifted thinker, presents in a manner that is too polished, in my opinion, for the local voters. Jim's answers were good and his final comments were inciteful, but can he relate to the everyday residents in this community. OK, i know, maybe 500 votes tomorrow, so you only have to relate to the ones that know you and are planning to vote for you. Another unfortunate aspect of local politics, but hey reality is what it is. This guy is very sharp and has great ideas, but is skewed in much the same way as those already serving. I will say this, he might have my vote, but don't think that a vote for JI is a vote for change in local politics. He's as embedded as everyone else. Good luck and mad credit to Ireton, he's running in a hostile environment and remaining polished (whether that is good or bad) in these local forums.
Penna Summary: I'm going to discount my comments on Penna based on the fact that it seemed like he was hardly present in the conversation. If he spoke at length i didn't notice, that may be my own shortcoming but neverless an honest fact. He also seems like a good guy who wants change but I didn't get many specifics out of this forum. Mad respect for his willingness, as I've stated with the other candidates. I do believe in a business type government so I appreciated his I can run a business and grow it, so I can run and grow this community approach. I appreciate the Ross Perot routine, especially without the pie charts, but don't know if this really relates to everyday local voters.
In total, good luck to all, my votes are already decided. I will say this, nobody showed up on my doorstep, and you'll have to trust me when I say, I'm right in the middle of a city development nearly 300 votes strong (assuming everyone votes, so let's say 10 votes!!) I'm a stones throw from the college, section 8 housing, a controversial annexation development, and so-on and so-on... I've tried to give an honest account here... thanks
p.s. we now have to deal with weather during primary day.... but how about the schools closed.... that may have a bigger impact than weather alone.... a little tougher to tote the kids in bad weather to a polling place, get ready for the worst turnout in history!! or maybe not!!
Those who have the opportunity to vote and don't show-up to the polls should keep their mouth shut.
I will do my part and I will vote for the person who is best suited for the job. Of course, I will vote for a second candidate just to spoil Comegys chances for a second round.

Just voted -- for Caldwell and Ireton.
I feel guilty because I voted for Caldwell to deter Comegys from moving on to the second round when I only wanted to vote for Ireton. I hope Mayor Ireton finds something in his administration where he can employ Caldwell.
I voted this afternoon at Harvest Baptist. It seemed to be picking up behind me but there was no line to wait in.
