This is certainly encouraging. Its not over yet, but its a good look into the crystal ball. The way I see it, 522 people that voted for Mr Caldwell will likely throw their support to Mr Ireton in April. Both of these men would do a good job. Even if a percentage swing to Comegys, the Ireton camp will still benefit greatly.
The Shields vote doesn't surprise me. I saw Marion Barry get elected time and again with a terrible track record. The fact of the matter is that sadly D 1 just doesn't care. Oh well, maybe they will see the light. Its a great day Salisbury. Pat yourself on the back and lets work hard for an April victory.
So help me here please...even if Jim Ireton gets elected the council votes will still be the same old 3-2 and he's gonna play hell getting anything done.

Shanie will get my vote...........when she can show me proof she actually lives in District One. Hell I'll take proof she lives in the city limits of Salisbury. I'll up her one more, prove you live in Wicomico County. Proof means you entering a residence and not exiting during the hours of 11 pm to 6 am, and this must be done for 2 months straight. Who else out there would contribute to a fund to take this to court?
Concerning the votes; I'm lookin at the election page right now and the way I see it only 4 precincts voted for the council positions....not all 20 precincts. That's the variation in the votes I believe.

My polling place was Harvest Baptist and there was no option. I only had the vote for mayor...

I was speaking to a co-worker who thought that the percentage of votes mattered, so only voted for one candidate. Frankly, the "pick two" is a bit confusing, especially for new voters.

Who is Ireton running against in the General Election?
Congrats Jim!!! I guess the people of Salisbury aren't satisfied with the way things are currently in Salisbury. Even if Caldwell's votes are split evenly between Comegeys and Ireton, Ireton still wins. Should be interesting with Ireton as Mayor and Comegeys still on council.
The voter turnout is equal to the amount of homeowners to renters in Salisbury. 12,000 registered voters and 2,000 of them voted. Look for Gary and the Mayor to go bare knuckles in the next month. You 800 plus that voted for Jim need to get signs in your yard. 800 Ireton for Mayor signs around the city!
Don't jump to any conclusions yet...there are 200 ballots to be counted on Thursday. That can translate into 400 votes, if they all vote for 2. The 38 votes can yet be overtaken!
This totally makes no sense to me--I mean Ireton and Caldwell are essentially on the same exact page, why didn't voters vote for both and knock Comegys off the ballot? It could have been so easy.

Salisbury, the voter turnout was just about what was expected for a winter election, an election that was put in this season by Barrie's minions some years ago to minimize the vote and keep incumbents in place. May be that'll change.
But NOW we have to work even harder, to keep Gary in his second place, where he belongs. Get those friends and neighbors out to vote in April!!

I can see Mare Barrie now stomping her feet and throwing a temper tantrum. "I have to get MY way! I have to get MY way!!" Barrie and Gary have been exposed by the power of the blogoshere, for the frauds that they are. I can't wait to feel good about the city I live in again. It won't be easy to reverse 12 years of dismal leadership. Many people will howl and scream, but the new Mayor will need to be tough in order to get crime under control. The police will need to be out in full force and be in everyone's business who is on the streets.
This election was sad again due to the fact the city is mostly renters and not actual homeowners who give a real crap about this city and it will NOT change until that fact changes, it is not hard to figure out at all. There is no way I would ever return to live in the city limits of Salisbury.

The city just like the election has been bought by special interest groups such as the Slumlords. Thanks for nothing Dinglebarrie, you worthless POS!!
Crack down on crime no matter what it takes, make the plaza a one-way road with diagonal parking, no fire boat. Give the SPD the manpower and resources to do the job, but demand a lot in return. Everyone on the streets and be proactive against drugs, prostitutes, and gangs, less on chasing college students. Work with the county and state to get some grants to hire court personnel to handle the increased case load.
2000 people didn't vote -- remember, people could vote for two. So there was a thousand something who voted.
Only about 100 voted in District 1. There was no primary for District 2 because there are only 2 candidates, so it is already decided who goes to the general.
As to blaming Ireton voters for not voting for Caldwell as number 2, tons did (the ones I know anyway). It could just be that some people were confused about the vote for 2. It's a weird system. Tonight's results would be a lot clearer if they just took the top 2 vote getters.
There might be enough absentees in District 1 to reverse Shields' and Polk's positions.
I also heard there were 200 absentees. So Comegys better not celebrate yet. That's a big enough lot that it could change Caldwell's position. Depends on what areas they came from.
Tim Chaney did a great job since he didn't have a "machine" behind him, just good old fashioned hard work on a working man's schedule. Keep an eye on him for the future.
For those bashing Michael Della Penna, knock it off. Della Penna had the guts to run and threw some great comments into the forum mix. His support of Jim Ireton is gracious and welcome.
IF Comegys stays in, count on him to throw every nasty thing he can find, including a clogged kitchen sink and backed up toilet, at Ireton. Don't stand for this, Salisbury.

As for the "why didn't all Ireton people vote for Caldwell," speaking for two people I know, they told me they weren't going to vote for two because they didn't know who Caldwell or Della Penna were or what they stood for and they sure as hell weren't going to vote for Comegys.
I told them what I knew, but some people like to know well who they cast a vote for. And after the Louise Smith Dupe the Public election, can't say as I blame them!
Those of us who watch the races closely too often take for granted that everyone does. Not so.

Wow, this section is full of support and some serious mis conceptions about the electorial process in the City. To my understanding, the current Mayor set the current election rules.
That should explain some of the voter confusion. The electorial process has many flaws, but it was designed by Barry Tilghman to do exactly what it does, confuse voters, and keep the number of person who vote out of the mix.
It breaks my heart that the process is misunderstood, and so few people vote.
Perhaps this blog, and others will post some messages about the process.

Help is on the way. Jimmy Ireton, will work to exhaustion for the people of this city. He is that little Salisbury Kid, that is now a huge Man both physically and mentally. But he is Huge because he is real, he is sincere, and he is willing to work to make Salisbury the city it should/could be.
IF each of us does our part, if you can't volunteer, send money, Jim Ireton will need it to stand up to the evil and hatred and dirty politics of the Comegys/Tilghman/Shields group, they have proven that they will stoop as low as necessry to win.

The fat lady hasn't sung yet and don't blame the people of district 1 as racist. I met some very nice people and will continue to support my district in every way I can.
Blame influence peddling, not the people of my district.
