Your obsession with the possibility for the failure of the Daily Times parent company is despicable. Think of the jobs lost, think of the families, have some compassion. It is ignorant for you to keep posting blogs concerning their financial woes simply because you disagree with what is and what is not published. Why don’t you just stop! Why don’t you try being professional for once. By-the-way, I know about your complaint department so don’t go there.

For me personally, I couldn't care less about the skeletopn shift left working in that dump. Salisbury News came into town and destroyed a scumbag piece of crap newspaper and clearly everyone has a new place to go that is accepted by thousands more people a day and you're pissed because you're losing jobs?

You have the same opportunity to be competitive on the Internet and you screwed up and dropped the ball. You should be mad at Bassett & Carmean! While Salisbury News wasn't around, everyone just believed all their BS. We exposed everything they were covering up and now no one can or should trust them.

I cannot wait to see the doors of that scumbag of a newspaper close and if ANY of you are still working there till the very end I';ll be laughing in your faces foe being so stupid for sticking around. Let me try this one last time. THEY'RE FAILING! THEY'LL BE CLOSING THEIR DOORS VERY SOON! Salisbury News starts advertising in just a few days, that's it, game over. Their own Customers want to come to Salisbury News and want nothing to do with the Daily Times. Ask Anne Taylor how well our advertising works. Ask the Humane Society. Ask the Salvation Army. The Daily Times is a has been, GOODBYE!

How do you feel about all of the average investors that invested in Gannett and have watched their portfolios tumble? How about the preferred shareholders who were paid .40/share dividends and then have them reduced to virtually nothing -(.04/Share). . what about them.

And you want SBYnews to feel sorry for these people. They are the ones that have spewed liberalism year-in-year-out and never gave conservatism's point of view. How many times have they sided with liberal unions, squewed news slants, spinning their liberal web trying to sway the public into their way of thinking. And then when someone breaks ranks they try and depict the poor individual as being a scandrel or lone wolf.

THE NEWS HAS MADE NEWS.

I am pretty sure Gannett will be shutting their doors very soon.

No one is really interested in reading or buying their papers anymore. Even though they were recently trying to change their former liberal bias habits I believe they have waited to long.

Joe, as you know I was a Daily Times reporter for 9 years, so I have a little insight here. When I worked at the Times from 1977 thru early 1987, we had, I estimate 7 or eight reporters. Most of us also took photos, but later Brice Stump took a lot of the "ordinary" stuff. I left to become a USPS letter carrier in 1987, and boy, have things changed. When Gannett bought the Times, and dozens of other papers, profit became the ONLY motivation. See, we reporters really enjoyed our roles, were given time to investigate stories that needed it, and FOLLOWED UP on outcomes and updates. Don't blame the reporters now, they only do what they are told, and there are apparently only a few left. I feel their pain, really. How can you be creative and informative in such an atmosphere? Apparently, the Times is blackballing anyone who communicates news or opinions via blogs. I have had another letter--about the ridiculous purchase of land on Levin Dashiell Road for an unneeded park--sitting for a week or so. I find such censorship abhorent. But I have to change with the times (no pun intended). You need to initiate a letters to the blogger or whatever, section, where the public can freely comment without prejudice or conditon (remember the "free press?"). It shouldn't have to be tied to a topic, just reader opinion in its own section of your blog. I believe you will get a large response. At any rate, I wish the Times well. As another writer noted recently, I believe we need newspapers, blogs and television news to keep fully abreast of our world. One warning: If you want to replace the Times, you will have to learn to stifle your Republican leanings and make your site an open forum. Yes, you could be on the frontier, but you have to realize that, just as reporters have always had to do, you have to put your personal feelings and opinions aside if you want to be "mainstream media." I complement you on your intensity and broad spectrum of news, but you need to, for lack of a better way to say it, open you mind, dude. But, hey, at least your print my letters.

Reference to Tom Leonard Posting:

Tom:

I tried to get on the 'Our View' team with The Daily Times for many many years.

Every single time I inquired I was rejected as their view was not in keeping with their liberal agenda.

So eventually I stopped trying. I even communicated this to Greg Bassett and Joe Cacchiolla trying to use them as leverage to get me in so that I could show a conservative side.

I'll always remember what Judge Robert Bork said. . .
'all of the ivy league colleges never allow more than 1% of their faculty to be of the conservative stand.'

Why - one might ask? Because it only takes less than 1% of Conservatism to sway an entire institution.

Quite scary isn't it. . .to think that less than 1% Conservatism is allowed to be in an ivy league environment.

I guess 'Our View' staff felt the same.

For that. . .I hope they do go out of business.

Yet Joe finds delight in the possibility of this? Seems devisive and nasty, however he will justify his thoughts out as he always does. Lord help the man.

You really think a lot of yourself don't you? I think that you're giving yourself just a little too much credit.

Changing with the times! No more print media needed, now what? Call me green, no more trees need to be killed.

So many excellent reporters out there, what should they do? How can they get paid for their excellent work? Without it being picked apart, I mean edited, to nothing.

Where is this leading to the future of media?

If you left the news business 22 years ago then you have no dog in this fight and your points are invalid. Sorry, grandpa.

Joe, you can't wait to see the Daily Times close? Really? That is f*ked up. Shame on you.

Ted! Hog wash!, The DT has been stifling opinions and truth since before the 70's. YOU PEOPLE are WORSE than war time propaganda! We the people trusted you. Should Hitler's henchmen be held responsible? after all they were just doing what they were told to do?!!! All of you working for the DT sacrificed your believes and rights to free speech and in the process, cheated and sacrificed all the citizens of this city...just to keep a job there. All of you should not only loose your job, you should be hung, like traitors and terrorist. You smothered truth and justice for a small paycheck.

Give me Liberty or give me Death

Hip Boots

Shout it from the mountain tops Joe!
Justice prevails! Life long corrupt paper bites the dust...a generation of lies, keeping a city and its patrons in the dark with lies and contempt. Promoting corruption and thwarting truths. Lifting up crooked politicians, their agendas and special interest, hiding and denying crime while stomping out honest citizens and truthful news. May every hand of the DT suffer a miserable death...just as they led our city to its destruction. Only God would show you mercy.

A group of good and real reporters could start their own online newspaper, advertise, and probably provide for their families in that way. They may make more money than they make now!

If it gets down to $1 I might buy 100 shares LoL Help is on the way!

Anonymous said...

Those shares may be worth a fortune someday, maybe I can sell the shares of the antiquated media on E-Bay

Joe, you'll thwart feuding firefighter comments, but you allow this?

How horrifyingly ignorant and hateful. It's only a newspaper, ok?
