On February 18, 2009 at approximately 8:45 p.m., officers from the Fruitland Police Department responded to a call from Food Lion located on N. Fruitland Blvd. regarding a shoplifter who had just fled from the store. The officers began searching the area for the subject and several minutes later received another call from Food Lion relating that another subject had just fled the store with stolen merchandise and that both subjects were attempting to enter a dark colored Buick Cutlass in the parking lot. The officers observed the vehicle parked at the northern end of the building. At the same time the officers observed a subject jump out of a loading bay, jump over a rail and disappear behind the building. The officers gave chase and cornered the subject behind the store. This subject was identified as Donald Lee Ennis Jr. and had packets of meat products under his shirt. He was taken into custody.

Immediately after Ennis was taken into custody, another subject was observed looking around the corner of the building. An officer gave chase to this subject, who fled across the parking lot, across Rt. 13 and behind a house where he became entangled in a wire fence. The subject resisted attempts to take him into custody and had to forcibly be subdued. This subject was identified as Matthew Noah Collins.

Subsequent investigation revealed the presence of CDS and CDS paraphernalia.

What's the deal with all of these Food Lion's why dont they have Security to stop people from stealing... Yea they may catch the people but once the items leave the stor they cant re sell them so if they have security then maybe they wont have this problem right?

Food Lion's been known not to go to court due to getting merchandise back and claiming it being resellable. The merchandise I'm remember were steaks. They'd been down the person's pants for more than 30 minutes. There is no way I can buy meat from there now. I'm not sure where the stuff has been before it was finally sold.
