In addition to the swearing in, mideast war, Russia stops supply of natural gas to Europe because of dispute with Ukraine, couple that with opec's production cut.

some intelligent discourse please !!

Yup I filled up Saturday for $1.44. Now the GOV want to raise the gas tax ten cents a gallon? Here we go again. Wish I had one of those trucks with a 800 gallon gas tank!

Christmas is over. I believe gas prices were reduced so people could spend money for gifts and help save retail. The holidays are over...Happy New Year!

Anon 8:20 is right Joe...alot of things went down over the past few days with Russia's fuel supply of, I believe 6 countries, get cut off...like you said...hold on tight, it's going to be a bumpy ride...

Glad Harris didn't get in... would've been +3.00

Sorry but it's the Democrats who control Congress. Nice try though. I should add, you might be right. If Harris would have gotten in there the Dems would have been pissed raising gas prices while Harris voted against it.

you aint seen nothing yet! Wait after the swearing in off Obama.

The price of a barrel was gone up nearly $10 since last friday. Sorry but Kratovil had nothing to do with it.

What does congress have to do about raising gas prices? Arent you being a little harsh?

I also read somewhere the Gov wanted to raise the gas tax. The reason they gave was they were not getting enough in taxes because people were not buying as much gas. I guess some have gotten rid of their suvs and gone with the hydrid cars along with people out of work not using as much. So the gov wanted us all to do our part in conserving gas..... we have and now they are complaining they dont have money for roads and bridges. I also heard some states now want to tax us on the miles we drive. I guess that is their solution to getting more money from the people that bought hybrids and aren't using as much gas.
We just can't win

It's got nothing to do with D's and R's. Prices for a barrell oil are slowly creeping back.

12:13 You are right about it having nothing to do with Republicans vs. Democrats.

However, you are also wrong to say it's because the price of a barrel of oil is creeping back up.

Yes the barrel price is creeping up...BUT....that oil still has not even been purchased yet, or delivered to the refineries or refined, or delivered to the stations. So....that is not the reason either.

Some say it's because of the lack of stability in Gaza. I say no to that one too.

Americans have gotten so used to our government and retailers lying to them, they have now started to believe what they say.

Wake up people. The American people are getting ready to get ripped off again. Prices will keep going up and up now that the holidays are over.
Heck, they're already saying they will be substantially higher by spring "because more people will be driving".

Give me a break! I really don't see any less driving going on...at least not enough to make a difference in the price of a product, like we're being told.

I do not know the solution, I wish I did but in the meantime, enjoy the low price for gas because it is not here to stay.

UMMM, If you recall OPEC was beside themselves that prices went down so far so they have completely haulted production!
It's supply and demand folks!
When it was close to $5 a gallon everyone slowed down, and began doing multiple errands when they went out.
Whether you realize it or not, we really effected the prices, by simply thinking before acting.
These SOB's will charge as much as they can. So whatcha gonna do?
Have you been driving a little more lately cause the cost has gone down?
I know we have, so here ya go folks, you have a fine current example of how your behavior can affect change in the market.
Learn a lesson and take advantage of it!

The price of gasoline is a function of supply and demand. Everyone knows that. There is now more demand. People are driving more. It is simple. As more and more people drive cars, the demand for gasoline goes up, and therefore the prices rise. Everyone thinks big oil is cheating them, because people don't understand how the pricing of products really work.

The pricing of products is based on what they "think" the people will pay.
Now that they know we will pay $4.00 a gallon but maybe drive less, it would not surprise me to see $3.50 or so a gallon within the next few months.
People weren't really complaining at that price.

I "locked-in" at under $1.75. Knew gas prices were too low! Between petrofix.com and gusbuddy.com not so worried about gas prices anymore!

I to heard from fox news that the feds were going to raise tax because there was a shortage of usage ? Not supply and not higher demand but less demand. This dosnt follow any line of supply and demand I have been taught.

Now for my own speculations of why .

Obamas coming into office soon and has prepared a trimendously high stimulous package, something like a trillion dollars which has been rumored to have been raised up to 3 and a half by the democratic party, which will have to be funded how ? By our selves of course. Either raise personal taxes or sneak it by by raising Govemental taxes on the products we use. This is just common sense . It is bad because how are you going to stimulate economy by charging more for the very products needed to live. Its just more pathetic democrat smoke covered theif if you will allow me to share.

How much are we to bear ?

Unreal-two local morning radio hosts commented recently that if gas hit a low of 99 cents per gallon that people would start adding stabilizers to fuel and hoarding it in drums in their sheds...lol

In part, but you must consider that Congress is now back in session and they must pay for their salaries which were increased by their own votes in the last session. Also the new stimulus packages proposed the now president elect (about 300 Billion more than the prior bailouts)WITH ALL THE NEW-FOUND EARMARKS (which he's AGAINST) must be paid for. 18 % per gallon, which Congress plans to raise in the not too distant future. The big oil cos. only make about 6% or so. (it's less than 10%)

So much for any "recovery".

totmom,
we do that anyways.LOL
1046,there will be new "hidden"taxation in EVERYTHING we purchase. If not imposed by the feds, it will be imposed by the states.
