A Child Safety Post

A Friend of mine was out this weekend with some friends with children in Washington, D.C. and as they were going from one building to the next looking at Museum's and so forth, the parents mentioned how their child was a runner. This meant that the child could just take off at any moment. Considering where they were, this was a major concern.

Nevertheless, leave it to the adult without a child to come up with what I thought was an unbelievable idea. He suggested that ALL parents take a cell phone picture of their child THAT DAY. This way they're wearing the same clothes others might be looking out for should they get lost. It didn't take a split second to decide if this was going up as a Post.

This is a fantastic idea, especially with the upcoming big event in Washington, should parents bring their child there in red, white and blue or their Sunday Finest. ;-)

Pass the word around on this idea because it's a pretty cool one and I had never heard of it or thought of it.

I wouldn't suggest dressing children in red white and blue in DC that day. Even with a picture from that day it would be extremely difficult to pin point a lost child among thousands of other children who will more than likely also be wearing red white and blue! I would suggest dressing in nice clothing with their names written inside of their coats, also inside of a shirt or pants because coats are likely to be taken off when kids are running around.
I am against the child leashes but for that one day I think it wouldn't be a bad idea for parents to have one. There are going to be massive amounts of people there and some are going to be showing their butts so I expect it is going to be pure chaos. Hopefully no one runs into a problem, but knowing that some parents can't even control their children in walmart I am sure this will be an even greater challenge for many.

Joe, whenever we go out with our two children (mainly to very crowded events) we insert a piece of paper with our names and the numbers to our cell phones and my parents' home phone number in their pocket. We also include our full names and the child's name (though now they are both old enough to provide their own name). Also, when we went to California and visited the theme parks, we took our "walkie-talkies" and put one in my older son's pocket (they have a 2 mile range) and kept one in our bag just in case since they aren't old enough for cell phones.
