Recent news reports suggest that Obama plans to address the economic crisis by throwing huge sums of money at it ASAP. Much of this so-called economic “stimulus” is likely to be done by make-work projects that – in order to get them going quicker – will be left up to local government that will be given money to spend for whatever purpose their officials desire. The “New Deal” will be pale in comparison to what’s about to happen.
Massive waste of federal funds due to the action of local officials with little or no guidelines or oversight by the Obama administration is a clear and present danger. Sensing the swill to be served soon after the inauguration, the hogs are already surrounding the public trough to get money for pet projects. One flagrant example is the “organized crime museum” in Las Vegas being touted by Senator (“Dirty Harry”) Reid of Nevada.
Look for Barrie Tilghman, and Bubba Comegys (if he replaces her as the mayor) to try to get federal funding for the nonsense that they are trying to put over on the public, such as the “North Prong” and downtown revitalization, “The Bricks” and other things. And if Vegas gets funding for the museum mentioned above, don’t be surprised if Barrie and Bubba try to get funding for the “poultry industry museum” that was proposed a few years ago.
Media coverage of that “organized crime museum” has apparently stifled that potential waste, but the Daily Times can’t be trusted to inform the public about requested funding for pet schemes of a Tilghman or Comegys administration. Please keep your eyes open and ears close to the ground, and if you should see or hear any “stimulus” or special funding for Salisbury (or Wicomico County), please let us know the details.
Together lets derail plots to waste Obama bucks. YES WE CAN!

Aren't conservatives all supposed to be about local control? You all would be crying twice as hard if the federal gov't was telling you what to do with the money (i.e socialism), but since Obama's proposal gives control to the local people, isn't that a good thing? Or is it just that you will complain about everything Obama proposes? Or should he be like Bush and simply do nothing?
This stimulous is another joke, another rip-off. This has got to stop. If you really want to help the hard working middle class how about a six month period where home-owners dont have to pay the house payments. This would allow alot of families to financialy catch up. The bankers have made billions off of these loans, as well as the sell-out deal they just received. they would just have to deal with it. If six months isnt enough, make it a year. This would do more than any bullshot stimulous.
Doug, who decides who's "hard working middle class" and who's just freeloading? I completely disagree with your suggestion of a six-month period where homeowners don't have to pay house payments.
Instead, how about a six-month period where these homeowners have to live within their means? Disconnect their digital cable, their wireless internet, their cell phones, and whatever else they have that they can't afford to keep up the payments on. Some of us still use "land line" phone service, use the library when we have to search the internet, and borrow old DVDs and VHS tapes for free from the library. Guess what -- it's called LIVING WITHIN YOUR MEANS and it's nothing to be ashamed of!!!

When do you plan to visit the "organized crime museum" in beautiful Las Vegas?
Conservatives oppose the expenditure of federal and any other public funds for wasteful things, and they are especially opposed to having the feds tax and spend for local projects that should be financed by local taxes or not at all.
The federal pork barrel is the source of much of our current plight, and it looks like Obama is going to perpetuate and enlarge that problem. And he calls this nonsense "change" -- go figure.
Alot of these people were living with-in their means until they lost their jobs, or until their works hours got cut back.
Im not very good with following the economy but would throwing more money at it make the problem worse? if you give everyone in the country a stimulus package wouldnt that lower the value of our money.where do you think this money is coming from anyway?
More empty houses wont help, until the homes values rise we havent fixed anything.
I never thought about the "pass" on paying my mortgage for 6 or 10 monthes in order to catch up or in my situration start up a savings account to help get back to a level that would help solve this trouble we are all in. Some not as fast as others yet still in.
Interesting proposal. I too beleive the stimulous "bail out" is being squandered.
One thing I watched on the tube is that obama has asked bush to ask congress to release the rest of the loot. This way he (obama) cant be held at fault for losing the rest of it.
We are about to enter a new restructuring of our Government , and their controll of everything, They have made it so uncomfortable to live with in the old capitol democracy that when a socialist society is made a option Im afraid just as many who voted obama into office will be in favor of this "change". With out even realizing what they will be electing us to become.
I pray GOD gives me the strenth and help to accept what is instore for myself and ALL the rest of my fellow Americans.
With the economy on the brink of collapes , how can obama spend so much money on his celabration of winning the presidency ? Just one million would save his American, yet Im forced to watch billions get squandered away. What a sick joke being played on all. I dont feel so well now, once again.
