Mobile Meat-Market on the road again.....

Not too long ago some Salisbury News readers reported men going door-to-door selling meat from the back of a pickup truck in the Fruitland-Salisbury area and apparently they have moved southward.
I was at work in Crisfield today and a clean cut white man came in claiming he represented a company called Midwestern and he needed to sell off the rest of his steaks before he "headed back in".I was suspicious because he was not in a uniform of any kind and rather than a reefer truck he was driving an older model pickup with an ancient household chest-type freezer in the bed of the pickup.I watched as he left and he was driving a gold-colored older model (circa 1975-1979) full-size Dodge pickup with Delaware tags.He may be legit, but it all seemed suspect to me,so I wanted to share this info so that the public is aware. Also, the truck he was in bore no vendor or trader's license number,or company name.He was offering steaks at ridiculously low prices and I am a firm believer in the old adage,Caveat Emptor(buyer beware).

I had a african american man about mid 20's show up at my door in Pittsville, no vehicle with him at all stating the same thing. I was concerned and called the county sheriffs office, the women officer who answered the phone, once I explained he had no car, no papers, he was dressed in street clothes, etc.. she said well what are we suppose to do? Nice huh

I was weary also but I have been buying from them for almost a year now and the meat is better than most at the market, they are out of Bridgeville.

I had a man selling meat the same way last week. He was in a blue pickup truck ,there were two or three men. They had a sign on the truck but it was down the street & I couldn't read it. They went to all the houses next to mine.

I had the same navy blue pickup come by my house. I just got home, was going to my door and this guy approached me and wanted to know if I was interested in buying some steaks or shrimp - I told him no, I purchase at the grocery story. He then said well you're not even interested if I sell them to you for half price and I told him no. I also called the police but don't know that they did anything about it. Probably not. What good does it do to report anything anyway? I don't think city cops follow up on much of anything.

If you want a good deal on meat, c'mon down to Pocomoke.

Sysco Cash & Carry offers the highest resturant quality meats at below retail / wholesale prices to the public.

The best part is, if I only have $10 in my "meat budget" then there is ALWAYS a selection for $10 or less.

We fed 7 people filet mignon last week for $13.50 and everyone was filled up.

I am talking black angus not some old Wisconsin milk cow like the people you are talking about offer.

If you can't make it to Pocomoke, then Joes favorite is a good back up... That's right Sams Club is Boss Hogg's second choice for meat on the shore.

8:44- Well, what are they supposed to do?

When they were in the Fruitland-Salisbury area, they also came to Deal Island. We bought some steaks from them, and we're still here...they were pretty tasty too. I was a bit suspicious, so let my husband deal with them, but I did get the tag #/make/model of their truck, just in case. We were supplied w/ paper work w/ a company name & contact info on, so it all seemed legit.

Wow I guess they are on the up and up-but I was concerned because the meats were not properly stored-an old household ice chest is just not my idea of proper food safety, especially considering it was probably just iced down.If the delivery fleet was more professional looking I might have been convinced but doesn't matter,as always I was BROKE!LOL
Besides,in Crisfield the best meats can be found at Riggins!

A neighbor of mine was concerned and called the Wicomico Sherriff's office. The sherriff's office described the truck and said that this company and the people selling were legit. They had all the neccesary licenses. But still, consumer beware. Other people will try to look like this company and sell bad stuff.

I buy all my meat at Sam's club. They carry all choice beef or above at a good price. I pay for quality, and Sam's gives quality at a discount.

The public store at Sysco has good deals, but it's a bit of a drive for me. They do have great prices on seafood.

Then their is Hastings in Delmar. Again, quality.

Remeber, the grocery stores including Walmart will inject all meat with a solution to make the meat look better and last longer. It is full of salt and harmfull. They have corporate bosses who care about the bottom line more than making a customer happy.

Try buying from the places I have stated above and you'll be very happy. Remember, you get what you pay for.
