INJURIES OR DEATHS: Mable Bannister, 25 years-old female along with her 9 year-old daughter were taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center for minor burns, treated and released.

PRELIMINARY CAUSE: Accidental, electrical failure within the wall outlet

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Two adults and six children were staying in the room. One of the beds was pushed up against the wall outlet with the mattress up against the outlet.
This is exactly what Mr. Tom Stevenson was trying to avoid recently when they did recent inspections at local Motels. IMHO, they need to keep on these Flea Bag Motels with greedy owners who will break the rules regularly and note care at all what the law states.
When you're in a business, any business, you must know the rules and regulations, (codes) in order to operate such a business. You can't tell me these people are clueless. Keep doing what you're doing Tom and hopefully you'll continue to save lives by at least making sure the smoke detectors are in fact working. It obviously saved the lives of this Family. EIGHT people in one small room, UNBELIEVABLE!

It wasn't 1 small room, it was a 2 bedroom apt. Not much better, but all they probably could afford.

The Delmarva Inn is charging like $350 a week for some of those 2 bedroom apartments. It's outrageous that those people pay that to live in a complete dump.

A member of the Delmar Fire Dept. reported at the Joint Council meeting yesterday that the smoke alarm was NOT working.
You also might find it interesting to hear that the "onsite manager" was not onsite when the fire happened...and instead of someone calling 911 for the fire, they called the "onsite mgr" at home and SHE called one of the firemen directly....even though the report says she drove to the fire department to report the fire...in the meantime 6 children and 1 adult were transported to PRMC with burns.
And what did the Delmar MD Commissioners do? Asked alot of questions but did nothing really.
There were some who pointed out that the owners are not keeping with what was agreed to in order to keep the motel open when it was sold...but the town can't do anything! Shame on you Delmar!

i said when those two motels here in town got popped that the county now needed to step up and do the same for those out of town no tell motels

If they lived in the tent city in the industrial park, they'd have more room to spread out & their probably wouldn' have been a fire! Maybe the Red Cross would be willing to donate a family size tent to them......could go up in the woods across the street on Emerson since the industrial park area isn'tfamily friendly with all the prostitutes & druggies
Heck, there is a tent city right here in Delmar. No need to go to Salisbury.
