PRMC Up In Smoke

This past weekend and friend of mines Parents unfortunately had to go to PRMC because of an illness. Once there and admitted, the Mother chose to go outside to smoke a cigarette.

As many of you know, PRMC doesn't allow anyone to smoke on their grounds. Following instructions, this woman went out to the street and fired up a cigarette. No sooner was she enjoying her smoke, a Security Person confronted her and told her she could not smoke on PRMC grounds.

She immediately replied, I'm on a PUBLIC STREET, you can't tell me I can't smoke here. The Security Person told her the STREET was owned by PRMC, put the cigarette out or he would have her fined $1,000.00!!!!!

OK PRMC, we have our issues, everyone knows that. However, you people believe you are a God in which you can control the lives of people walking on the streets too? I will set a time to meet ALL of you in which I will gladly come down to that same public street and fire up a Cigar and I dare you to try to fine me $1,000.00 for smoking there. I'll be sure to bring along WBOC & WMDT to make sure your actions are on tape. Wanna try me?

Up in smoke...

It is that way with most every hospital in Maryland. If they are not that way yet. They will be.

By the way. I think you will lose that bet. Because the hospitals have the backing of the local governments to do this.

It's a public street, or don't you get that?

The illusion of freedom is the basis for the denial that has become our reality.

City Standard Road Cross Sections show the road Right Of Way (i.e Public Property) at least on the outside edge of a roadside sidewalk. If you are on the sidewalk it is Public. Threatening people on Public Property may be grounds for arrest or possibly a lawsuit.

Maybe security should have told her to jump into the actual street, hopefully there isn't too much traffic. How much time does security have to police the public sidewalk? RIDICULOUS!

Where exactly was this person smoking? It seems to me that any parking lot or driveway on the PRMC campus DOES belong to PRMC, just like you own your driveway. Where EXACTLY did this person lightup??

Anonymous said...

What makes you think it was a public street? PRMC owns a lot of the paved streets around the campus. Where exactly was she smoking? Outside the ER? Yep that's owned by the hospital.

You go Joe! You are such a big man. Too bad for you PRMC owns most of the roads surrounding their campus. You go ahead and light that cigar and when that security guard shoves it up your a$$ you can take a picture of it and we can all sit back and compare it to any other picture of you smoking your cigar. My guess is most people won't be able to tell the difference.

PRMC, I understand, owns a portion of Locust street and the piece of Division that is their loading dock at least. They may own more streets than that; You would have to look on a plat map down at the gov't bldg. to see the "border". I think Vine Street is still public, but PRMC has a lot of property on both sides of streets around there, and will probably buy the streets when they own all the surrounding properties.

So my question is this, What is the street name in the area of PRMC??

Anonymous said...

Puff the Magic Dragon.

Someone ask public works who owns the sidewalk. That'll settle it.

While the hospital pays not one red cent in taxes into this city on any of it's properties, the TAXPAYERS pay to maintain that street, it does NOT belong to PRMC. Now if the city would make the hospital pay to repair those streets that would be very nice since it is the result of all the heavy equipment in and out of there over the years. I won't hold my breath waiting for that to happen.

I believe the statement would be from curb to curb. You can stand in the middle of the public street and smoke but not on the sidewalk that is adjacent to thier property.

Huh. Maybe PRMC security is trying extra hard to make up for the lousy job PRMC does with its patients. Gotta love rent-a-cops.

Mr. Albero, I happen to work as Security at this hospital. Let me make something very clear to you: IF YOU SHOW UP ON OUR PROPERTY JUST TO SMOKE AND WRITE A STORY, YOU WILL BE ARRESTED AND FINED. There are many more important stories for you to blog about, a lie is not one of them. We do not police the street, if you choose to smoke, that's your choice. But if you do it on our property, you are subject to fines. I suggest that you follow up on your facts a little better next time. The original complainer was found on PRMC property, not a public street, smoking.

Thank You for not minding your business.

Had a relative who would smoke on the elevators in hospitals because the fine was only $25.

PRMC, bought the street, so it is not public, smoking at a hospital, let me shot myself while I buy a gun....not public....privately owned...their rules.

The fact is all your stinking cigarette and cigar butts will wash from the city street down the city drain and into our public river where it will only serve to further deteriorate the ecosystem.
But the Joe you can take lots of pictures and blame it on the Mayor for not stopping smoking on the city streets. either way you win.

Joe Just forget it. More than half Americans dont know their rights under the constitution. People have become stupid. We have let our schools NOT teach our children the things we learned. Its how you prepare the population for "CHANGE". Remeber, it's not the guns that will taken away, it's the ammunition. We need to think out side the box!

which street was it? was it actually a public street or one of the streets that are owned by the facility.

Also, cigars smell like poo.

joe albero said...

It's a public street, PERIOD. So is the sidewalk. Take the street sign down and get permission from the County to remove the road and we migt be getting somewhere. In the mean time, it's NOT their road.

Joe,
Tell your friend to just smoke in the elevator next time. Also, if you smoke outside, screw them assholes. All you assholes that think you shouldn't even be able to smoke outside need to walk to work because I have to breathe your exhuast fumes and it stinks.

You are some petty people. This is what the blogs do to people.

can I fine someone for smoking in front of my house ? If so how do I go about getten some of this Obama moneys ? And isn't it remarkable how their own employee's get a private smoke lounge inside the building not accessible to the public. Are they required to purchase seasonal passes ? The next big harrassment against smokers . At least they are leaving the blacks alone....

Heres a question for the security folks-what if someone is inside their car in your parking lot with the windows rolled up?
I am a smoker and I know its bad for me but DAMN!First you all wanted us outside, then you complained about that-now you people (ciganazis) have pretty much made it impossible to smoke anywhere except our own home and if you had your way ,you would put a stop to that too! Before any of you start spouting off about how deadly smoking is,I know an 84 yr old who has smoked a pack a day since he was about 12-he is not only still alive, but still works 20 hours a week,AND gets around with no help.It is not good for us,but so arent alot of other things.
And Joe,your comment about firing up a stogie apparently ruffled some security staff feathers.LOL
I think stogies stink too but I defend your right to smoke em if you got em!

Joe, do you go to church and I recall there's only one god and that's not you

Anonymous said...

anon 1:54 PM Which right under under the constitution did joe have violated? Please explain.

Anonymous said...

If you go to John Hopkins, that is smoke free. They have an area for their patients to smoke. Sidewalks in some areas are non smoking.

The right for people to have their own privacy and not the right to run people down

Your a public idiot, or don't you get that?

Anonymous said...

Woah woah woah! Joe. I was at the City Council meeting like 3 months ago where they showed the survey map where 2 streets had been entirely purchased and deeded to the hospital. They agreed to maintain sidewalks and pavement. From the plans it looked like the streets weren't being changed from their current configuration but might be in the future. There's almost no way for the nurse to have known that it wasn't in fact a public street, but it wasn't. Crazier still, you were at that very meeting.

I have no problem with people smoking. Die if you want to, but leave me out of it. My biggest issue with smokers is the lazy filthy jerks that feel the need to fling the butts, sometimes lit butts, out the windows of their cars or throw them on the ground. Its called an ashtrya, use it or don't smoke till you have access to one.

Joe, I'm here on the Helipad atop PRMC with a $4.00 stogie, The blades of the helicopter make for great ventilation and serve to scare security away as well. Well gotta go
do some emergency surgery, this looks like a bad one.

Anonymous said...

There is NO indoor smoking lounge really, where do you get your info about PRMC anyway?

Anonymous said...

I don't understand why it is so hard for PRMC to establish a smoking area.
They used to have one and did away with it.
I do not smoke anymore but I don't think it's right for PRMC to dictate what someone can or cannot do when they are not doing anything illegal.
They don't care about their patients OR their families or they would realize that in a large number of cases, the family members are probably a little more than stressed out that their loved one is in the hospital whether it be for surgery or as a patient.

its funny its a 1,000.00$ fine to smoke outside but a 25.00$ fine to smoke in the elevator which hurts worse?

Mr. wannabe policeman Dominic Graziano, who gave you the authority to act as judge and jury and fine anyone. Just exactly what law or ordinance is being violated and which legislative body authored and passed it. The last I heard, PRMC is not a legislative body, nor is it a court. Unless you can show me the specific law you can shove it.
