From what I read a few years back the top floor of that building has a great ceiling in it-used to be a dance hall. It was open to the public for a few days before they installed a drop ceiling under it for offices.

That place was the crown jewel of downtown at one time....

Yep, my sister-in-law and brother-in-law were married on Christmas Eve at Trinity Church and the reception was held on the top floor of the Hotel. What fun we had.

My grandfather has told me he use to go to dances there. He is 93 years old.

Built in the early 1920's this was a very modern building for the time -- steel studs, for example. The top floor has a curved ceilng above space that was originally a ballroom.

Was this where the Castleberg's Jewelers was? I remember getting my engagement ring from Castleberg's, which was somewhere right around this area.
Now it's Mr. Barrie's office suite.

Ah, yes...Castelberg's, where my engagement and wedding rings were bought, before downtown salisbury became the slum it is today...where my mother and I stood on the sidewalk as John F. Kennedy rode by, waving, from the back seat of a convertible...when you didn't have to be afraid of walking after dark because the stores were closed at night and on Sundays...

Well I took dancing lessons for about 2 years on Saturday nights in the basement of the Wicomico Hotel and hated every minute of it, but I am so glad my mom made me do it. It helped me in many ways in later years. We didn't have much money, but she made certain I went each week.
