Death Row

According to wikipedia, here's the definition of death row:

Death row is a term that refers to the section of a prison that houses individuals awaiting execution. It is also used to refer to the state of awaiting execution, even in places where a special section of a prison does not exist ("being on death row").

After individuals are found guilty of an offense and sentenced to execution, they will remain on death row while following an appeals procedure, if they so choose, and then until there is a convenient time for execution. Due to the lengthy, expensive and time consuming appeals procedure that must be followed in the United States before an execution can be carried out, prisoners may wait years before execution; nearly a quarter of deaths on death row in the U.S. are in fact of natural causes.

As of 2008, there were 3,263 prisoners awaiting execution in the United States. Also as of 2008, the longest-serving prisoner on death row in the U.S.A. (who has been executed) was Jack Alderman who served over 33 years. He was executed in 2008.

State of Maryland: New Study Reveals Maryland Pays $37 Million for One Execution. A new study released by the Urban Institute on March 6, 2008 found that Maryland taxpayers have paid at least $37.2 million for each of the state’s five executions since 1978 when the state reenacted the death penalty. More reason for us to carry guns for protection. Imagine how much money we could save the state.

If someone on death row cannot prove their innocence within 1 year, they ought to just go ahead and execute them.
Waste of money to keep these prisoners on death row. Start the executions and show criminals that there ARE consequences instead of them believing that even if they end up on death row, they'll live several more years and maybe even never get executed.

We run into this same problem with our youth nowadays. They know there are no consequences for their actions so it's easy for them to become out of control kids.

Certainly not how I was raised, that's for sure!

Does anyone remember Thanos?

11:38,

You're showing your ignorance. It is not the burden of the accused to prove their innocence. It is the burden of the State to prove guilt. And no, 1 year won't cut it. How many cases have had men exonerated for murder and rape through DNA evidence DECADES after the fact?

Under your plan, we would be killing innocent people.

It should be nearly prohibitively expensive for the State to execute someone. Every single scintilla of an option needs to be exhausted... THRICE. This is a life we are talking about, and you don't want to go around killing the wrong people.

I remember John Thanos...may he rot in hell. I will never forget the grief that one of my best friends suffered at the loss of her son by the hand of this animal.

They killed him quick because of refusal of appeals. Sorry if i reminded you of something hurtful, didnt mean to.

Thanos was one of the deciding factors that the SPD and the WCSO traded in their 9 mm's and went to .45 cal. Rusty and Jay fired several rounds into the car Thanos was driving and none went thru to hit him. The old .45 is a tried and true caliber. It's a shame Thanos didn't meet his fate right then.

I'm sure you mean well but heres another plan for you to attack, I would like to see All and any one who is found guilty in the court of law to be put to Death with in two weeks for the chargs below.
rape 1st
child molisting (any kind)
murder 1st
home invation
car jacking
robbery with a weapon
These is what is needed to send a clear message to the thugs who think they cant be touched.
If the court would start killing these low lifes then the country would be a better place live.

So we reward them with television, movies, 3 square meals a day, clean linens, free medical and dental care?
Give me a break!
Yes, there have been some who were convicted before DNA was readily used and their convictions were overturned. Good for them!
They are few and far between.

We reward criminals anymore, we don't punish them!

How the F***can it cost more to execute a prisoner than to house one for life. Sumpin' don't smell good here. Exactly how did "we" come about these figures?

VERY few, rare incidents of innocents being executed. Those were the old days. Now we have DNA and it doesn't lie. I remember Thanos. Lucky "our guys" weren't hurt Thank you Rusty and Jay and our friends on the grand jury for the indictment. He could have gone scott free.
He's never been missed.

FYI, our legislature is about 23 to 8 in favor of abolishing the death penalty. Write your reps and tell them how you feel.

if there are multiple witnesses and abundant DNA a murderer should be subjected to the same fate as their victim/s
