A Comment Worthy Of A Post

"I am not a city officer. Say what you want but these guys are kicking some criminal ass. I have 22 years in else where. With the verbal beating they take over thier boss and being understaffed. I think they are doing what they can. I say let the Sheriff's office take over the entire county. The duplications of tax revenue and services in general are ridiculous. The mayor can not tell a Sheriff what to do HMMM that would take care of that right off the bat. SPD keep your heads up and keep kicking butt. I work close by and see your work. Just try to get the info out to other departments a little quicker so none of us gets hurt out there. To the mayor and Chief W I had a great deal of respect for you when you showed up on the scene. I thought good things were going to happen, but I think you have let the system put you on the defensive and no one wins a fight backing up. Its not to late to become part of the solution you do have friends in this county. If Webster had a strong Admin he would not be taking this beating in the media. All of you need to stand tall and together. One more thing get your people tasers. It is a huge safety issue that can no longer be ignored. At least a dozen situations per month warrant this and it is a useful assest in the fight on crime. Stats show Departments using Tasers resisting arrest complaints fall in half. It also lowers workmans comp claims due to foot pursuits and injury due to assault by 10-95s. maybe if all the departments in the county worked together we could catch this scumbag robbing people who cares exactly where in the county, but that it did happen in our county. Road Dogs Unite LOL Time to kick some scumbag Ass. last time I checked our cuffs are one size fits most and dont say a darn thing as to what agency you work for. Happy Thanksgiving Brothers and Sisters behind the bagde. You to Joe and Granddad H.. Time to go fight Crime Old School"

Recently Officers of SPD and the Sherriff office had to again confront a resisting joynes subject. He is extremely dangerous and strong, and basically and entire squad was utilized to take him into custody, YET AGAIN. Tazers are a great and usefull tool. Unfortunately the men and women at SPD will not be provided this tool to help them and keep them from getting hurt. Maybe with years passing or more workers comp claims filed those Officers maybe given this valuable tool

Question:

What would you (as a cop) do if you pulled me over for a minor traffic violation and I refused to show you my drivers license?

There is a debate on another post that one does not have to show a sworn law enforcement officer their ID when lawfully requested.

Thanks

BossHogg,
I'd lock your a$$ up if i wasn't satisfied as to your identity.

Boss....two entirely different situations.

Driving and not driving.

If you're operating a vehicle you must display license on demand of a police officer.

If you're walking down the street and an officer just randomly asks for some identification, you don't have to comply.

The circumstances under which you may be asked for ID are limited only to the imagination. In order to get an accurate answer to your question, you need to be just a bit more specific relating to the circumstances surrounding your being questioned about your identity.

Get a copy of the criminal code (the full code - not the criminal digest) as well as the transportation article and look in the case law at the end of the appropriate section. Often reading the case law will help you determine the legislative intent of the specific law rather than just reading the law itself.

Well first of all the City needs to eat this cost and get the tools needed. The Tazer or Taser is an awesome tool. It has had some neg. media. It does far outway the use of the ASP All Steel Pipe which I never liked. The baton which can be brutal as well. This tool allows for non-lethal use that 97% of the time has no lasting injury. That is huge in a time of lawsuit happy thugs. I think the spouses and famiies of these men and women need to attend the coucil meeting and give thier feelings about the City not giving tools that protect the city from civil liability and could save the life of a loved one. Its a no brainer. Chief do something positive for the worker bees and know that this is heart felt. It is not to late to work with everyone around you to make this City and County safer. I think there is a lot of misinformation out there and it creates undue bias among the troops. I have friends in Baltimore County that say you do have a strong work ethic and you are a cops. cop. I think you have been rocked back on your heels with all the negative attention. I see your departments struggles and it is a shame. I also think you are a leader no matter what disgruntled officers say. It is time for all the departments in this county to become one. When we crossed the stage to graduate the academy no one cared what color your uniform was or where you were going to fight crime. The honor was that you were doing it. That you are part of one of the greatest fraternities on earth. I have stood beside hundreds of Officers at troopers and deputies, and patrolmans funerals. I saw that we all cry the same tears. This goes to all wearing a badge if you dont believe in the war on crime then it is time to go. I dont want you backing my old butt up. Remember why you took the job in the first place. I am partial to the Sheriff's Office for obvious reasons, but I would go through any door anyday with any officer in this county.

BossHogg if you have it show it. It is the law, the citation would be failure to produce lic. on demand. It is cheaper to give it up. Also there are some that would not write you it is at the discreation of the officer. If they are rude file a complaint we work for you. If you are rude then it is going to cost you more than likely. A stop for minor traffic is actually a misdemeanor offense and is an arrest that can be handled with a citation. You also have to produce the vehicles registration card on demand. I guess i would have to be there and see your actions and demeanor. I personally would ask you why you refused and if you had it and were just busting my bearings I think i would have to write the citation. If you stated you left it in your other Hogg tousers I would not have an issue we all do it. Again I would have to be there.

Have a happy and Safe Thanksgiving !!

Joe thanks for the post.

How many officers at SPD are currently on some type of injury leave or limited duty from injuries? I have heard that over 10 officers are currently in this situation.

The question was related to driving.

If I am driving and refuse to produce my drivers license, what happens?

This is a thread hijack related to the Obama birth certificate, because people have been saying he does not have to prove he is qualified to run for office.

i was told spd almost had enough officers on light duty to man an entire patrol squad. The administration there wont let these officers have the tools that they need, and good men and women will keep getting hurt needlessly. Maybe someday enough numbers will mount for the STAT counters upstairs to take note that it's a needed tool. I just hope it's well before someone gets seriously hurt and even medically retired as spd was unfortunate to have to retire a great cop recently...in my eyes partially due to lack of man power and tools. Maybe someday that will change. if families show up at council meeting the officers will probably be the ones ostrasized due to the families actions

To whoever is in charge if your reading this like they say you do....you're guys/gals want this tool, get it to them before someone gets hurt needlessly

Boss hope this helps

7:43 pm Where the hell did you get your number of 10 or more officers out because that is totally off. And you can keep your tasers. They are just another weapon a officer has to defend from criminals. It either has to be joe or mike lewis writing this comment. No cop with a brain would be friend you joe.

Anonymous said...

Anon 906, Are you saying Mike Lewis doesn't have a brain? What a maroon. You aren't worthy to speak Mike Lewis's name.

Anonymous said...

Failure of a driver to produce acceptable identification during a traffic stop WILL result in your arrest. You are required by law to show show your license and registration card to the officer.

I don't see a taser being any more difficult to defend than the firearm. Wow, admin must be fighting hard to prevent SPD from getting tasers. How many years now chiefy without a K-9? We had them once before, but we have gonme without way to long.

Anonymous said...

I take that a "maroon" is a red moron?

lol, the word verification for this comment is "braines."

They want the drug problem in Salisbury fixed but they wont give Salisbury City Officers drug k-9 to help them work on that problem. They wanna rely on the assistance of another agency instead of getting and using their own tools first then asking for assistance when needed cause their's is not available. Drug problem is in Salisbury....hence Salisbury City Police need drug k-9....watch if they do get one it wont even be assigned to the supposed drug unit that SPD has it will be just driving around looking pretty

I guess when one spend his career in Internal Affairs as Webster did you cant teach an old dog new tricks. It is his goal to apparently be the figure head of a great department. When I started many yaers ago Colburne Dykes was warrior who was guilty of trying to do too much at the time. I as all officers from local departments had a great deal of respect for he and his department. These men are polar opposites. Chief as a fellow cop try to do some good for your men you can turn this around they need and the city obvisously needs it. I think a new mayor could be the key to solving this issue. I think Webster would be far more effective if she where gone. The warrior mentallity is needed now more than ever. It is a war out there and every tool to protect our citizens and our troops on line should be utilized. I am no commander but I have been in the trenches for some time. The normal wear and tear an your people is enough they should not feel safer on Church Street then they do in the confines of thier home base. Stand Tall SPD help is on the way. I see change in the future and it is is for the best. God Speed Keep Up The Great Work. A quote from an old movie stated "They bring thier fist, you bring a club, They bring a knife you bring a gun". This is the mentallity needed today keep it real. Fear none respect all.
