Incident: Violation of a Protective Order
Date of Incident: 16 October 2008
Location: 200 block of White Street, Salisbury, MD
Suspect: John William Collins, III, 52, Salisbury, MD


Narrative: On 16 October 2008 at 9:43 AM, deputies responded to a residence in the 200 block of White Street for a report of a subject being at a residence in violation of a Protective order. Upon their arrival, the deputies located John William Collins III inside the residence and determined that Collins was in fact in violation of the Protective Order issue by a District Court Judge. The order prohibited Collins from entering the residence.

Collins was arrested and transported to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance the Commissioner held Collins on $10,000.00 bond at the Detention Center.

Incident: Possession of a Handgun
Date of Incident: 17 October 2008
Location: 1000 Block of Phillips Avenue, Salisbury, MD
Suspect: Carlus Dupree Gerald Jr., 18, Salisbury, MD


Narrative: On 17 October 2008 at 2:17 AM, a deputy from the Wicomico Sheriff’s office attempted to stop a vehicle on Civic Avenue that displayed an expired registration plate. The vehicle pulled over, but accelerated away as the deputy exited his vehicle. The vehicle continued with the deputy in pursuit to the 1000 block of Phillips Avenue where the vehicle stopped. The driver quickly exited his vehicle and attempted to walk away from the deputy. The suspect, Carlus Gerald, was detained by the deputy who then discovered Gerald to be in the possession of a loaded .22 caliber revolver.

Gerald was arrested and transported to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, Gerald was held in lieu of $25,000.00 bond.

Incident: Assault
Date of Incident: 16 October 2008
Location: 7500 block of Brent Avenue, Salisbury, MD
Suspect: Joshua Lamont Handy, 28, Salisbury, MD


Narrative: On 16 October 2008 at 4:02 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the 7500 block of Brent Avenue for a reported assault. Upon arrival the deputy met with a victim suffering from facial injuries who was able to identify the assailant who was still present. After an investigation, the assailant, Joshua L. Handy, was arrested.

Handy was transported to the Central Booking Unit at the Wicomico County Detention Center where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, Handy was held in the Detention Center in lieu of $25,000.00 bond.

Aren't White Street and Phillips Avenue inside the City of Salisbury, Joe? Where was SPD?

Wow Joe you see that Phillips Avenue, looks like the Sheriff's Office is cleaning up the city again. I'll tell you what, kudos to the Sheriff's Office they are really stepping up the game and getting things done. Even though this county doesn't appear safe with all the crime, it's good to know that there are good officers out there working to keep it safe. Great job on getting the guy from this pursuit and the handgun!!

Wow, you people bitching about being in the city or city. Get over it. Sheriffs deputies can conduct traffic stops on anyone anywhere in the county. Do you think there was a sign on the car that said< I have a gun, stop me SPD"?
