If Obama wants to run this country as a socialist state he should come out and call it just that. I'm ready to take a responsibility vacation! Hey troops, get off your a** and get out and improve yourself. I dropped out of high School and joined the Marine Corps. When I retired from the Corps, I had passed the GED and got about two years of college in going at night, I went back to school and finished a BBA and went on to complete an MLS. And let me tell you it wasn't easy at all, we were living on my small Corps retirement and the salary my wife made working at a college. You can get what you want, but you've got to work for it. No one will give you what you want and that includes Obama!

Well here it goes. In the first place it was the the slaves own families that sold them into slavery not the white man. Also I am a white male and I have been discriminated against all of my life because I am a white male. Did you ever hear of affirmative action. Yes I grew up through civil rights and started working in the seventies. Every time I went for a job they had to hire minorities first. I once applied at a local manufacturing plant and they were hiring 100 people. I was told they could not hire one white male until they hired about 70 minority people.
This has been the case my whole life. And there was about ten years that the State of Maryland never hired one white male all minorities. Not only that but where do you think the money is going to come from to pay for all of this. You guessed it OUR PAYCHECKS as if they don't get enough of our money now. Yes vote for Obama and if you are a working person there will be taxes out the ass like you have never seen before. Look at your pay stubs now because with Obama as President the amount in the tax column will be your take home pay and your net pay will be your taxes. So think about that all of you intelligent democratic voters. He is a true democrat more and more taxes and more government programs. The only problem the programs never work as well as they planned but you still pay the taxes. And even if the program fails and they scrap it they never lower your taxes they just keep your money for more and different programs. So with gas at $3.50 to $4.00 a gallon and food prices up we can't afford to elect Obama for President. Just think about that for a while.

Wow! It is amazing how much ignorance is shown of these post. First of all, there are people of ALL colors are on welfare. Reading some of the post makes it seem that only black people are on welfare. That is just plain ignorance.
Second, black people only earned the right to vote in 1965 (the measurement of true citizenship). Forty three years ago. The lack of voting rights was another systematic process by the majority to remove the rights of American citizens. This along with Jim Crow laws helped make blacks the most hated citizens in America. I believe that forty three years is probably within the lifespan of many of this sites readers.
How many of these complaining posters people did anything to help out blacks during those times? It was only forty three years ago so how many of them faced the dogs. firehoses and death threaths from society? How many of them sacraficed anything so that all Americans could gain basic American rights?
Blacks are not given anything in this country. We had to earn it in ways that apparently a lot of people are trying to forget.
Now when times are tough, the first people who get blamed for everything that is wrong in this country are either black or poor people. Forget that we insist of buying products made in other countries or drive a car that gets only 20 miles per gallon. It has to be either black or poor peoples fault. Close, but no cigar on the history. First, only black MEN got the right to vote by the 15th Amendment (a betrayal of all of the women who fought for this amendment, by the way). And despite the Constitutional amendment, blacks were systematically excluded from voting in many parts of the country (not just the South) through the use of unfair practices--most notoriously "literacy" tests. In documented cases, blacks were given Latin documents to translate in order to vote, while whites in the same jurisdiction were given a sentence from a children's book. Mr Obama may identify more with the black half of his ancenstry because many Americans (white, black, and otherwise) use outward appearance as the only identifier. I've seen it happen time and time again, where my black friends have received much more scrutiny when they go in a store than my white friends. That is just a semi-minor example, but imagine how sick of it you would be after a lifetime! In Salisbury, I have witnessed what appears to be discrimination in voting to this day. We have come a long way in terms of race in the last 50 years, but anyone who thinks we live in a racially blind society is simply naive.

As for my having a problem with black people. I don't believe that to be the case. If I could choose McCain's running mate, it would be Secretary of State, Rice. I love political and social philosophy. In pursuit of this love, I started attending informal disscussions with black groups 30 years ago. Many times I was the only white person there. One such group is the Nation of Islam. Early on, they were the ones who shot me down dozens of times when I would spout some incorrect "fact" that was easily shown to be in error. ( The line used on me was (Man, you're dumb! Can you read?) Then they would show me, in historical documents, my error. Although we disagree on almost everything, I am grateful to them for teaching me the importance of having one's facts straight. Our discussions, as you can probably guess, are totally open and brutally honest. Although I am often the only white or Christian in attendance, I never feel physically threatened. We disagree strongly vocally, but there has never been a hint of intimidation.
I also enjoy frank conversations with black Christians. I would enjoy conversations with black athiests, but I honestly have never met a black athiest.
Anyway, if you asked any of these hundres of black people who kmow me very well if I have a problem with black people, I think a lot would say "no," but most would say "no more than most of white America. Thomas just has the interest and guts to stand toe to toe and have have brutally honest discussions. We respect that and like the old man."

You believe what you want to believe! I have explained the law to you. You obviously don’t understand the constitution. The voting rights law of 65 was great and necessary because it closed loopholes that discriminated primarily against blacks, but could be used to keep many other people as well. Millions of black people voted from 1870 to 1965, so they were not denied the right to vote because they were black. Some other excuse had to be found. There were more white people who couldn’t pass a literacy test than blacks.

Ignorance, however can be addressed and greatly improved if one is willing to read and accept that a long held belief may be incorrect if shown more and contradicting evidence.

To realize the absurdity of what you just wrote, please, simply reverse the roles. If the black or any other race enslaved you, your wife and any children that proceeded from you, and this enslavement meant the TOTAL submission of you and your family under the conditions you mentioned and many more that were much, much worse, would you have a sense of respect or that you were respected in any fashion? And while we are at-lets make the Germans pay off the Jews and oh goodness all us white devils better start paying the Native Americans off for what we did to them.Obama is a damn fool if he thinks Americans are gonna stand for his entitlement ideas.All he is doing is further dividing blacks and whites in this country with his rhetoric.As much as I despise the Republicans,I cringe at what the Democratic party has to offer us.I just want a President who will stop taxing me to death so I can maybe drive something newer than a 14 yr old car while my unemployed counterparts,black and white alike, have new cars because they have "entitlements".All the racist comments here are disturbing,but it shows that people are scared and that may be a good thing.All of us hardworking Americans of ALL colors need to unite.The sad (and frightening)thing is that many black voters are going to vote for Obama simply because he is the "black" candidate.
And while I am alienating readers (LOL)let me add that if I hear the term "African American" one more time,I am gonna hurl.Unless they immigrated here in THIS century from Africa,black Americans are just that-black Americans.Enough of the PC crap.And for the last time folks,Obama is BIRACIAL-not black-not white-although he is hell bent on denying his caucasian roots til he is red in the face.What a slap to the white grandparents who raised him when his white mother and black father flew the coop and did their own thing.That tells me more about his character than anything else.
