Rt 50 and Tilghman Road have been closed for about 4 hours now due to a fatal accident. I'm told a van struck a vehicle, (car) on the drivers side door and the person driving the car died in the scene.
UPDATE: Margie Elizabeth Day failed to yield right of way at the intersection and was hit by a Van driven by George Thomas Elliot, 60, of Salisbury. Mrs. Day died from the accident.
I was also told they had to use the Jaws of Life to cut her out of the vehicle.

man, somebodies getting that terrible phone call,(that phone call scares the hell out of me).
it involved at least 1 state vehicle..and one of the people involved had cardiac arrest at scene...
wonder if it had anything to do w/ the construction. they do seem to have a bunch of accidents there though.
Joe, I don't know if you want to post this since it may be considered a bash, but this is Salisbury PD's area and I don't know why they could'nt handle this. The MSP crash team took over.
It was a result of the construction. The traffic signal was set to flash on yellow for Rt.50 and flash red on Tilghman. I'm sure the drivers were not used to seeing these temporay signal settings. Shame that someone died, but it shows you how fragile life is and you never know when your going to loose a loved one.
Not to start a debate about the whole old people shouldn't be driving...... but the woman was 76. I feel that perhaps there should be some sort of retesting verification to make sure that aftera certain age we are still responsible enough and our reflexes are where they should be to operate a motor vehicle. I am sorry she lived this long only to die from this accident. But Joe, I found it amusing that Daily Times had this on it's website already. I didn't think we would see it until the weekend. LMAO
The family has been told that the MSP crash team took over simply because a State vehicle was involved. The construction may certainly have played a role, but the only reason SPD had to hand over the crash investigation was because of the State vehicle. Just a tragedy...
who went threw the flashing yellow, who went threw the flashing red???
Anon 5:04... The article said the woman failed to yield the right of way.
just double checkin, but thanks for the iput.
Anon 4:50, I couldn't agree more! I love my grandparents and cringe at the thought of them loosing their independence; however, driving is a privilege... not a right.
Getting checked every 3 or 4 years after the age of 70 (or some “older” age) is a small price to pay for being allowed to drive a heavy piece of machinery at speeds of up to 70+ mph that could potentially kill others.
all the best to the day family, sorry for your loss.
The fact of the matter is that this was a tradgedy regardless of the circimstances. A family has lost a loved one and they are now dealing with this tragedy. Some of you people really need to get a life and stop and think about others feelings. God Bless the Day Family and the other drivers family as well. This is why they call them accidents.
anonymous 4:50 PM - you're one sick bastard.
" I found it amusing that Daily Times had this on it's website already. I didn't think we would see it until the weekend. LMAO "
I'd like to see your obituary you worthless piece of $hit!
What kind of @sshole finds anything amusing about anything like this?!
The boring crew struck a wire that the state marked wrong and set the lights on flash no on purpose.
There is more to this, much more than you're seeing here.Wait for the results of the investigation.
Since we are on the "older side" and live very near the Tilghman Rd. RT 50 intersection, we have watched this construction unfold over the last several weeks. I knew it was just a matter of time when an accident would happen. When our son and family come to visit, we are very mindful to advise them of the terrible "accident traps" in Salisbury. One of the main ones is NO ONE STOPS for red lights around here. I am sorry that soneone has lost their life, but trust me, that is just the beginning for that awful traffic pattern they are planning just to name that one. I swear the engineers are from the western shore and hate us......I have said that for years.
They do have a cut off where you do have to get tested. I don't know if its a certain age or a certain mental capacity, but a family member of mine just went through it.... then again she had to get lost a couple of times before they required the retest. Her doctor had to submit a note as well, on her behalf. He didn't have anything nice to say, as I understand it. She's no longer driving.
Am I the only one that thinks widening the road is going to result in more accidents? The 2nd lane on the Tilghman Rd side dead ends at the DMV, not to mention people trying to get over to turn into Food Lion/McDonalds from that lane and cars coming onto Tilghman Rd from 50 in that lane. Its going to be a mess.
see why i asked about the lights.

Sounds like another F#%k Up by Bubba Comagees... fearless wannabe leader of the SHA.
For those that might be interested, the new configuration of the intersection at Tilghman Road and East Salisbury Parkway (Business MD US-50) will same as the intersection at Beaglin Park Drive and East Salisbury Parkway.

This is not the first time that someone has "failed to yield the right of way"
If anyone can recall, maybe 2 or so years ago an older gentleman was also killed at this intersection.A friend's husband struck the car when the man pulled in front of him.It was so tramatic for my friends husband that it nearly cost him a mental breakdown.I'm not even sure if he ever drove again.Until new guidelines are set this will continue everywhere.
There are certain circumstances in which a Doctor is obligated to notify the MVA of medical conditions that exist which require suspension and/or re-examination of drivers regardless of age. A police officer may, at his/her discretion fill out a form requesting a specific driver be re-examined.
I don't know that there is any mechanism in place to randomly select people for re-examination which is triggered by age. I may be wrong.
That being said, the real sad thing about it all is that someone lost a loved one and our deepest symathy and prayers should go out to those she left behind.
we are waiting for further information from the investigation. right now we are just worrying about getting all the funeral and insurance mess taken care of. thank you to those who have sent their condolences. it is very much appreciated.

Anon 6:52- I'd Like to see your obituary you worthless piece of Shit is actually kinda rude. I wasn't making fun of or disregarding the deceased in anyway, shape or form. That comment was to JOE since he always states The Daily Times is slow on releasing news..It is very sad that this tragic accident was reported immediatly whereas other things that are important are omitted from the paper. And I'm pretty sure if and when my obit is in the paper it will be long after yours b/c you are the type of person who flys off at the mouth and your karma is gonna get you in trouble. Remember that and try to be a nicer person. You'll get further in life. I promise. My condolences to the Day Family. Peace be with you.
There was an accident at this light last summer also. A motorcyclist who had the right of way was hit by a motorist who ran the 50 light.
The MSP is involved because they have a certified reconstruction team. That means they are certified and able to testify on speeds and travel direction, etc. when someone dies.
And to anon3:09, hey moron, cardiac arrest is death. Try not repeating information already presented.
I saw the scene it was HORRIFIC! My Thoughts and prayer to the Family. I also saw the one last year, sad tragedies.
When I went by, the paramedics were doing chest compressions on a man. Could be two different things. Just because there was cardiac arrest, doesn't mean that the person couldn't have been brought back. I tell you, I just saw the aftermath and I am still traumatized.
My condolences go out to the family. My best friend lost her husband at this very same intersection in 2005. He was on a motorcycle headed east and a gentleman crossed over in front of him. He tried to put the bike down, but he hit the side of the car about chest high. The sad part is my best friend was coming off the bypass with there kids in the car and recognized the bike. She went down to the next intersection, turned around and came back to confirm what she saw. Everytime I ride through the intersection I cringe with fear I will get hit. I personal can not wait for the construction to be finished to be like the one at US50 and Beaglin Park.
