The Lords Prayer

When I stood in front of the City Council a few weeks ago and I asked Gary Comegys if he had parked in a Handicapped Lane, (or however I worded it) Gary knew exactly what I was talking about and flat out LIED by saying he did not. I have several witnesses, (Police Officers) who did in fact witness him doing so, some of which were walking the grounds to find him to track him down so they could get the vehicle out of the way because a handicap person was trying to get off the Bus.

So I'm wondering just why they do the Lords Prayer before a Council Meeting when they show NO RESPECT for the truth anyway?

When I attended both Council Meetings in Delmar, they did not recite the Lords Prayer.

They should not be saying the Lord's Prayer before council meetings. this has been found time and time again to be violating the Constitution, Wilber knows it, but sits there with his mouth shut. You CAN have someone lead the Lord's Prayer, but only if you offer people of other faiths the opportunity to do their own form of benediction as well on a rotating basis. The only reason I haven't protested yet is I don't want to put more money in Wilber's pocket to "research" whether this is legal. It is wrong, wrong, wrong and the council needs to stop it. Nobody on the council, and I unfortunately have to include Campbell and Cohen in this, has the political courage to put an end to a practice that clearly is in violation of the Constitution.

Im not opposed to the Lord's prayer before the meetings, what i am opposed to is the lack of accountability when someone like Bubba sits and lies in front of everyone...

Joe, please don't go there.

I refuse to be a part of their hipocrisy. I do not enter council chambers until after they have committed their hipocritical act of praying in Gods name KNOWING they have every intention of screwing the taxpaying citizens of this city in one way or the other and then lie about it. Then there is Shanie always talking about things they do in church, is this before or after the time spent with Heineken at the VFW?

I know somewhere in the bible it says something about hipocrits gathering in public praying in Gods name. The author must have forseen Barrie Tilghman and her pawns.

Those people are praying they don't get struck by lightning for all of their evil deeds.

They want to try to start off on a good note before the entire meeting goes to Hell.

If he did in fact park in a handicapped spot, why not call someone to have his vehicle towed.

I would not have bothered asking him, just have him towed.

Fact is, its the lack of God in our lives that destroys the quality of life we strive for.
What if, all of congress prayed vigalantly to God for wisdom and insite and guidence, just as our forfathers did when they wrote the constitution?

"its the lack of God in our lives that destroys the quality of life we strive for."

You're kidding me, right? This is exactly what pisses me off about religion and or religious people.

The bottom line is, there are morals and rules and guidelines in life, all of which are right and wrong. To fear someone into believing they'll go to hell if they don't follow YOUR rules because God says so is flat out bullshit!

If that were the case, then why doesn't every Country run exactly the same was ours is run? Because again, it's all bullshit!

You get assholes like Comegys who sit in front of witnesses and even television and lies flat out and bold faced. Is HE going to hell? How about Barrie Tilghman sitting in the front row in the Court Room sporting the Bible in her hand while the Judge saw right through her BULLSHIT!

I know right from wrong and when I don't, if I'm to make a mistake I'm expected to pay the price just like everyone else, NO BULLSHIT! But to sit there and PRAY to an almighty God, swearing you'll not lie and you'll be a good little boy and girl, in this case anyway, is BULLSHIT!

"I" strive for a better quality of life, OBVIOUSLY and even more so than those believers in praying to God in a Council Meeting. My standards and beliefs are obviously stronger than those who PREACH, yet are afraid to use their real name and also be accountable.

I could give a rats ass about our forefathers. This is the year 2008 and I want accountability. I refuse to look back and instead challenge who we are today. I want to look at the here and now and I want those son of a bitches who are lying right in front of you to be accountable and THIS is what this Blog is all about.

I spent too many years in a Catholic Church learning BETTER than the piece of shit Mayor sporting a Bible in her lap in the hopes that a Judge would think she's a better person for doing so. THE SHOW IS OVER! Just because these people bow their head and ACT like God is important to them, WHEN are YOU going to finally get it and FORCE them to be accountable?

OPh, that's right, YOU WON'T! You'll leave it up to Debbie Campbell, Terry Cohen and Joe Albero to do all that for you!

BRAVO, JOE!

When the hell are you Salisburians going to show YOUR political courage and protest this or other issues at council meetings?

From what I've read on this blog, you all just leave it to this Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen -- where the HELL is your support for them now that you've got them in office? In anonymous comments on a blog? (Even a good blog, Joe, wink, wink.)

And Joe Albero is the only one with his name on here AND speaking up at meetings, even before he owned property there because he cares.

I am SOOOOO glad I don't live in Salisbury, Joe, because people just bitch here anonymously, and then take a slap at the only people who do seem to take a stand -- for them!

I'll post my name, but it won't mean anything to anyone here. I got turned on to this blog by a friend in Salisbury, and I keep telling him to get out of there. The problems of your city are one thing. The apathy of your citizens while they blame folks like you who do speak out is stomach-turning.

we are paying Paul Wilber what? $160 and hour to sit threw that tripe? The mayors lengthy, windy, verbose awards prior to getting started.

I don't mind the prayer, however I mean come on and look who we are dealing with here immoral pukes who can't buy respect, you have to earn respect it can be paid for.

Every time they start that prayer I look for lightning getting ready to strike.

No matter how much someone wants to bible pound...

The Lord's Prayer at the start of the council meeting is unconstitutional.

And a little FYI for 7:08...most of our forefathers did pray to G-d, most of the time privately, sir. And then they included the First Amendment to keep governmental idiots from forcing a particular religion down people's throats.

I have no problem reconciling my belief in Jesus the Savior with this simple concept. For without it, I might lose my right to practice my faith.

"The Lord's Prayer at the start of the council meeting is unconstitutional."

NOT TRUE!!!!!

"Separation of Church and State" means the State CANNOT force you to practice a specific religion. That you are free to practice whatever is your choice. Laws made in the days of the power of the church of England over all it's colonies. (Why we had the Revolutionary War.)

If they want to repeat the Lord's Prayer, OR ANY OTHER, more power to 'em!! And, it's NOT UNCONSTITUTIONAL to do so.

7:41,

You are wrong. Flat out wrong. The courts have decided this again and again--it is unconstitutional to privilege ONE religion above others. As I said earlier: they do have the right to recite the Lord's Prayer, but only if they rotate it with other religious views. I love how people ignorant of American history argue that our history shows that there should not be a separation of church and state. Uh, why did the Pilgrims leave? Oh yeah, so they would stop being persecuted for their religious beliefs! Of course, then they turned around and started persecuting others for their beliefs (even executing people for the audacity of being Quakers). If you would like to live in a theocracy, move to Iran. See how well that is working for them?

the majority of our founding fathers were slave owners, half of them were banging their female slaves. how does that fit in with your god. theres people starving all over the world, but your churchs keep getting bigger and fancier. how that fit in with your god. to me, god is the hypocricy that fuels illusions, or should i say dellusions.

8:34:

NOT unconstitutional!
It's called freedom of religion. If you wish to repeat the Lord's prayer, you may do so, if you don't want to, you don't have to.
No one is forcing anything. That's the separation and the freedom of choice. Any other prayer would also be allowed.

6:18,

Either you do not know the law or you haven't seen what the council does. The city council LEADS the Lord's Prayer, to the exclusion of other religious benedictions. This is patently unconstitutional, and if I wasn't so lazy I would cite the case law for you. I guarantee the courts would rule against the city, no doubt about it. You are simply wrong. Now, our city attorney should be advising the council that they CAN rotate the Lord's Prayer with other prayers, OR they can allow for a moment of silent reflection where you can silently recite the Lord's Prayer or try to remember what you were supposed to get at the grocery store. But if Wilber advised that, he would have to charge the city to do all sorts of "research" to find exactly what I am telling you here for free. Case after case about government officials doing exactly what the council is doing have consistently ruled that it is wrong. You can wait until someone sues the city and it costs money to defend a position that has been ruled against over and over, or you can do the right thing and simply call for a silent moment of reflection. Man, I hope you aren't Paul Wilber, because I would hate to think the city attorney really is that ignorant.
