A Comment Worthy Of A Post

"Does anyone ever READ what Joe post? He didn't call SPD pussies..He said pull together as a TEAM. They can't fire the TEAM and not violate your LEBOR. Joe is pulling for you, the public will pull for you, but you have to pull TOGETHER. Yes, Joe will stir the pot, hence the nature of a having a blog. SPD; stop letting the political end splitting you guys apart, as it is their plan. By keeping you torn at each other, you will continue to be easy picken's. A unified GROUP is much harder to defeat. You have to get your heart off your sleeve. If you guys dont do this, you will still be where you are now. YOU have to start the fight & the FOP will help. You can't sit on you rear and expect them to do it for you. I just may know something about this. Yes, Joe is biased, he will back you!! He can say the things a P.O. can not. Hint, Hint.."

I've spoke before the council requesting more police officers before we all found out that the chief has been making requests.

This city has grown a lot in 20 years with no increase in staff, you can say that technology takes the place of officers, technology can't throw a criminal down and cuff them.

Lifetime criminals are also constantly on the run. move around a lot, takes boots on the ground to keep up

The cons at ECI like life here on the shore so much they don't leave once released. More cons, less cops. Yeppers, thats how you fight crime in Salisbury (dripping with sarcasm)

SPD is pretty unified on the pay and shortage of officers! Everyone has spoken up to an extent. (the extent at which they are comfortable) Some are more outspoken than others, and it shows, by the way they are treated! It doesn't matter how good or bad you are...you can tell who has spoken up!

I think that everyone in our community needs to speak out and request that our city hire more police officers. These guys put their lives on the line for us. As we can see from Joe's blog there is a lot more crime in Salisbury than we are advised of.

I want to say Thank you to all of our police officers.

he can say the things a p.o. cant, damn thought we had freedom of speech in this country. keep hiding in the closet and nothing will change, you p.o. have a civic duty to speak up, shit we as americans have a duty to speak up. if you get fired for speeking out about the issues, get a lawyer and sue their ass in court. never put profit befor principle...

84 people will not be able to change their minds! The community has to follow and stand up for what is right as well! It takes one person to get it all started!! Any volunteers?

Doug, I respect your position but there are other things you need to consider.

It has been said that police officers are entitled to some "watered down version" of constitutional rights. It's not fair but it's true. Getting a lawyer and suing is not that easy. The way it works in the real world is whoever has the most money wins in the civil court world. Ask the Ocean City police officer who tried to leave work when his wife was in labor. He was forbidden and tried to sue under the Family Leave Act. Ocean City used taxpayers money to pay their atty. The officer had to second mortgage his house. He still ran out of money before the case went as far as it could have. The Sheriff of every county is a constitutionally required position. Therefore, the atty for the Sheriff in any county is the Atty General of the state. When do they run out of money? See my point. To initiate a legal action against any city or county govt. from an employees standpoint is, in most cases, the initiation of an action which will require more money than most employees will be able to access. Yet the govts money will never run out - therefore the employee is highly unlikely to win. At that point, future employment with that agency (employment that is tolerable) is highly unlikely. This is another reason to support collective bargaining local law enforcement officers.

The LEO's might not be able to sue but the citizens damn sure can. Stu Leer beat the pants off Wilber more than once, twice without a certificate on the wall lawyer. If enough of the citizens in the city stood together, threw $100 bucks in the pot, did the research together, I'm willing to bet they could beat the hell out of Barrie Tilghman and her lawyer, Paul Wilber, in any court.

Who wants to give it a try?
