Things are starting to get a little violent in Mayberry RFD. Maybe if the town took care of the cops they still have, they wouldn't be flying out the door to go to the Sheriff's Office and the Natural Resources Police.

That's nothing new for the Bay Street area of Berlin. It's the Decatur Farms and Mystic Harbor murders that worry me.

tax guy -

Please!!! Those neighborhoods are now a bunch of rentals, and this is what happens when homes aren't owner occupied.

There was a shooting in Decatur Farms a while back, too.

Bishops Head is looking better all the time.

I know several Berlin police officers, one extremely well. It's amazing Berlin PD has any experienced officers.
It's been known for awhile that they just train
officers and then they leave for better agencies.
Chief Downing does a fine job with what he has. The
council worries more about the electric plant and
annexation than they do public safety. I know for a
fact there are many times that only one officer is
working during the evening hours. I guess it's going to take someone getting hurt before they change things. Ocean Pines and
Pocomoke both have higher salaries than Berlin Police.

When a woman stabs or shoots a man at HER residence it always makes me wonder... WHY???

Anyone know what the back story on this is?

We got the press release & updates from the Maryland State Police but as Sgt Friday would say: Just the facts...

Maybe Berlin could get their 'disabled' former chief back.

I hear he has a lot of bills to pay these days. Maryland Judiciary Case Search os so much fun!

I am writing this to the response regarding the Berlin police officers (9:00pm post). Let me get you straight, since you say you "know" several Berlin police officers, and one extremely well then you should realize that there are several experienced police officers working at Berlin PD. The majority of the officers have been with the department for a substantial amount of time. And every police department including Ocean Pines and Pocomoke have rookies. Since you know what it takes to be an experienced police officer maybe you should fill out an application with Berlin PD, since you have an opinion that there are no experienced ones employed there. Then maybe Chief Downing can do a fine job with you as well. As a matter of fact, he does an excellent job with his officers. Thats more then I can say about other police agencies. You should really elaborate on what you mean when you stated "with what he has". Because I can tell you what Chief Downing has, he has several dedicated officers that would never leave the agency and yes there are a few officers that have placed applications with other local agencies, because they feel and probably have been lead to believe the grass is greener on the other side. Remember the grass isn't always greener on the other side, maybe you should follow up on the ones that have left Berlin PD. and see how green the grass really is. And when you put in your application request to work the night shift so then maybe there won't be only one officer working since you "think" you know the Berlin PD schedule. Experience or not an officer can get hurt on any shift, not just working on the night shift. And remember, opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.

Wow, wish I would have checked back sooner. FYI (post 4:49pm) So that I can get YOU straight, I must inform you that the officers i know ARE THE EXPERIENCED ones!!! I feel for my FRIENDS/FAMILY that are Berlin police officers and get paid LESS than other towns in the county and deal with MORE problems, drugs, violence (AS IN MURDERS) than Ocean Pines, etc. And maybe your confused...I said Chief Downing DOES DO A FINE JOB, it's just unfortunate that Berlin has to lose GOOD officers because of their lower pay, 30 year retirement, crappy benefits, etc. (Are you sure you read my comment?) And yes, two officers that I know that have left do in fact tell me THE GRASS IS GREENER!
I would love to go through the academy and work for Berlin, but unfortunately I can't afford to take that BIG of a pay cut. But maybe you could TRY it and request to work by yourself in the evening, WITHOUT back-up. I'm sure with your arrogance you'd be comfy sitting smack dab on Bay Street :) Ask me who works on what days...
I'm really more concerned about your confusion and lack there of understanding of my comment. Unfortunately for you, reading comprehension IS a requirement for becoming a police officer.
