GO HERE for the full story and photo.

The investigation into a deadly crash this morning continues today. Two people died after a Mid-Sussex Rescue Squad Ambulance crashed into a tree just east of the Lewes/Rehoboth Fire Company substation on Route 24 in Angola. State Police say the accident happened just after 2:30 - a patient in the ambulance was killed in the crash and a paramedic, who was ejected from the ambulance, has died from their injuries. The ambulance driver and attendant were both injured and taken to Beebe Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

First of all, may GOD rest the 2 victims souls. And My prayers are with their families. My prayers are also with the injured EMS personnel. After reading about this on WBOC's website. I have a question...How was the patient ejected from the ambulance when the stretcher locks into place inside the ambulance and the patient is supposed to be strapped onto the stretcher for their own safety. I can see the EMS personnell being ejected, but not the patient! I worked on an ambulance for several years and we ALWAYS strapped the patient onto the stretcher so that this wouldn't happen!

What caused this terrible crash in the first place. Was it driver error or did someone not pull over to let them by?

ems personel in the back should be seat belted in also. no excuse as to why they should not have been there are restraint systems made so we can work and be safer in the back, yet they arent.
prayers go out to the families

You do not know squat! As a EMS provider you can not attend to a patient strapped in. GET A CLUE or do not comment on what you do not know. There has never been a restrant system that would allow a provider to do this and be belted in.

I believe you need to do some research. Restraint systems are out there. Do the research and find out yourself.

The patient was in cardiac arrest and there was an EMT in the back with the Paramedic. The EMT has a broken arm and a knot on his head. A deer jumped out in front of the ambulance and he swerved to miss it. I know it is easy to say why didn't he hit the deer...Thats easy to say but it is instinct to swerve. The patient was strapped in and didnt get thrown out. The paramedic was the one that was thrown out. Our prayers go out to the victims and there families.

These are the facts: The Paramedic was not ejected from the ambulance, the EMT and the patient where ejected. The pt. was killed and the EMT has a broken arm and is admitted into the hospital. The Paramedic was sitting on the impact side on the bench seat that was totally destroyed in the accident. As the pictures show the bench seat and all cabinets were completely torn from the vehicle. The Medic was found in the rear of the ambulance by the back doors. The driver of the ambulance is also admitted to the hospital with minor injuries. Give me a break, you try to do CPR or a critically ill patient sitting. Unless yo are a paramedic and know of a system I am unfamiliar with dont write. Nice ambulance, but I see nothing in it that would have saved that medic. You can not evaluate a patient enroute to a hospital sitting in one seat, you need complete access. And YES I am a medic for over 15 years in a large department accross the ditch and locally...

You are right there is nothing in the link that would have saved this particular medic. There is equipment that would work in other accidents to prevent injuries.
