New Fire Station Or Jiffy Lube?

While visiting the brand new Fire Station in Salisbury yesterday I couldn't help but notice the oil stains and fresh oil all over the brand new floors. Some areas had been so stained it couldn't be cleaned up completely and is now leaving marks in the floor. You can see where they attempted to clean it up but it's stained for good.

Considering I own several classic cars, the small of gasoline in the garage is pretty standard. However, the smell in that building from gas fumes is pretty bad too. They need to drain that puppy of all gasoline and make the decision to take it out of service for good. Sorry guys but your Insurance Policy will not allow you to have that vehicle indoors with gas in it, you might want to look into that.

They planned it that way, the cracks in the floor are for oil runoff.

Careful, they may have to hire a cleaning contractor at tax payers expense !!

I'll bet "Gordo" can drain it -- just get a long straw for him to use.

Did they poke a hole in the oil tank so they could get another toy or did they do it to save oil so we could lubricate ourselves while we get SCREWED!!!

Come on Joe. If you were 92 years old you would leak to. Fire trucks are notorious for dripping some oil. The fuel in the tank is changed regularly and only gets filled when it is used for a function. No need to worry about a fire. There is a sprinkler right above it. Be kind to the old girl, for she has served us well.

When Joe is 92 years old he may very well spring some leaks, but I am sure he will be smart enough to catch them with depends undergarments!!! Doesn't the farmin have enough intelligence to put something down to catch that oil? With Gordo and his Deciples I doubt it!!

Dear Bryan:

God Willing, should I reach the ripe age of 92 you're ALL in trouble. Lord knows what it would be like to still have me around that long and Blogging away, LOL!

Nevertheless, I'd be a very blessed man to have more than 100 Firefighters around on a weekly basis to pamper me and take care of me, like the old Fire Truck we're talking about here.

Sadly, however, whenever the CRAFTSMEN with WISDOM who dedicated their lives to Salisbury and the Fire Department get up there in age they tend to throw them out and NOT care for them at all in any way, shape or form. You know this Bryan and it's just as sad as the Mayor using taxpayer money to fund a Dog Park yet she'll offer nothing at all to participate in a Skate Park for human that ARE paying taxes in the City. Same with my example of the Zoo.

So the Fire Department will care and pamper a 92 year old Fire Truck yet they won't take care of some of their own, (humans). I'll add a recent Firefighter forced into retirement recently after being injured on the job. He was an IT guy who worked on the computers and could have continued serving the Fire Department.

Then there's also the mentality or replacing equipment still being paid for and claiming the manufacturer was bankrupt, yet they were actually restructuring the company under a Chapter 11 instead and are now back on their feet.

I love that old Fire Truck but you know what, it's a piece of metal that can be replaced. Many of the humans that offered even more to this Community are far more valuable but are thrown away because certain people have their own agenda. How sad it is and that's probably why I'd never want to reach a ripe age of 92 and be dependent on people who could turn their back on me when I am most in need of all of you, if you get my drift?

In closing, you're a great man Bryan Records and of any and all of you I have more respect for you and your Family than any other person in that entire Fire Department. I can't thank you enough for replying and especially being proud enough to use your own name. You know how much I respect that. Hopefully you see the humor in this comment but in the mean time I'd be more than happy to donate enough cardboard from one of my Plants to lay under this vehicle so the oil can drain on it, if you're interested. It would be a donation, FREE. Let me know and I'll deliver a years supply, no problem. Oh, as far as the gas, it was the fumes I'm concerned about. I'm not worried about a fire, just the smell from the fumes. If a human stunk that much you could light a match and the odor would go away. In this case, I wouldn't recommend it at all. LOL

So what's up with the insurance policy? I don't understand why they can't store a firetruck inside a firehouse without gas. Who's brainy idea was that?

Here's a novel concept.

GET IT FIXED!

If you can spend all of that money on that brand new falling apart building, surely SFD can spend money to repair something they cherish. Don't say it can't be done, other fire departments do it all the time. Bill Sigrist put a B Model Mack back together in mint condition. IT CAN BE DONE.

Bryan should know, you don't put water from sprinklers on an oil or gasoline fire, respectfully.
