One Year Ago Today
Leave it to this Mayor, Barrie Tilghman to make sure the City gets what she wants out of that building. As things stand now, whomever puts in a RFP that suits what Barrie wants, (sometimes called FOB's) that's who they'll choose to take over that property.
It doesn't matter what the Citizens say they want done with the building, not at all. It's what the Mayor and majority of the City Council want done with it. I'll repeat, I used to own the old Fire Station 7 in Pittsville. I believe it was originally sold for $15,000.00. Look what it's worth today, more than a million dollars. So DON'T keep it in the City's possession. Sell it cheap and then let the Mayor sell all of you on how whatever goes in there will help economic & development in the City/Downtown.
As Dr. Phil would say about the Downtown Plaza and even the Arts District the Mayor created last year, HOW'S IT WORKING FOR YOU BARRIE? Heck, how's anything you've done working for you?

I thought the whole reason for a new facility was due to stuctural damage occuring in the old building? I recall a newspaper article showing the failing brick .How come it's now ok to use now??
I do not believe Salisbury voted 40% for a museum. Who would go to that? There was some funny business going on with that poll. I've never been to waterfowl museum and I've been to the Zoo once; that was a disgrace to see animals in those conditions.
Great point about the condition of the structure. I'm sorry that I wasn't paying very close attention to the situation when it was determined that a new fire station was needed. Was it because of the condition, or was it because of location?
Either way, the new building appears to be an embarassment to the taxpayers. I saw a sign that said the Delmar High School expansion, with all that entails, is only $2,7million. Once again, they're spending it as though it gets picked off a tree in the back yard. It's just a matter of time before they GIVE AWAY this former firehouse building.
Joe, it's not "How's it working for you, Barrie."
It's working just fine for her. And the fire department leadership that wanted a "trophy wife," figuratively speaking.
It's the rest of us it's not working for, not at that price tag anyway.
