CITY OF SALISBURY
CITY COUNCIL MEETING AGENDA
MAY 21, 2008 -- 6:00 p.m.
City/County Government Office Building -- Room 301
***Public Hearing - FY09 budget***
If all of the supplemental requests being made by the Tilghman Administration are granted, there could be another double digit tax rate increase next year (beginning July 1, 2008).
If the sewer and water rates being proposed by the Tilghman Administration are approved, they would increase by almost 50% in the next two years.
OUCH!

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
Will Salisbury taxpayers (including business owners) show up at the meeting and speak???????
If not, ya'll deserve whatever tax increase Barrie lays on you. I see only a couple of people taking the time to show up and speak--if the rest of you don't bother, it's all on you. Barrie is a disappointment, for sure; but City taxpayers are also as they don't take the time to be a part of the process.
We need to take a page out of the county council meetings. The citizens show up en masse and speak on the record AND the council acts in a professional and respectful manner. Quite different than the city meetings. I don't know what it takes to motivate the city citizens--but I wish it would happen fast!
Nalagirl
Don't be surprised if officials from Delmar, Hebton, Fruitland, etc., show up with brochures about their towns, as well as real estate brokers with listing agreements and pens.
Those Salisbury homeowners that SAPOA has not yet driven elsewhere are now being forced out by Barrie Tilghman and her bobbleheads on the City Council.
Wanna bet that Cathcart does that "tax me more" schtick again this year?
Will Barrie be a "no show" once again???
Remember what Barrie told us about more taxes when she first ran for mayor:
"I won't tax you; I won't tax me;
But just the man behind that tree."
And we fell for it!
It's a very sad day, when the City of SBY get's away with the issues on the dinner plate now. Alot of SBY taxpayers and renters in the city that should care about this problem dont't give a hill of beans about anything these days. They might want to bitch about the council and scream about with others, but do you see there butts up in the chambers bitching. I think not were as some on the City Council could care less. Were as they always vote for the mare and her wishes. And the bad thing about it they know they can get away with it.
What you may be missing here is the Mayor did NOT put in a tax increase OR recommend a water/sewer increase.
No, she's too slick for that. She's going to make the COUNCIL have to choose to do that so SHE's off the hook! If this isn't an election year ploy, I don't know what is!
Don't take this crap, Salisbury. Even if it's a Dunn Deal (his legacy lives on with Louweasel, Bubba and Shamie), go make their lives AND the MAYOR's miserable, if only for an hour.
Then vote 'em out in 2009!
I think city citizens are very interested and motivated, however, they know it's not going to do any good to go to Council Meetings and voice their concerns because that damn council is going to vote 3-2 on everything and everyone knows it. Citizens cannot change Bubba's mind, Louweasal's mind or Shanie's mind because they are too tuned into Barrie and her shenanigans - so tell me how do citizens change this?
Restaurants, nursing homes and places that use a whole LOT of water will mostly suffer and cause businesses to move outta state. I know the corporation I work for would, move right over the Delaware line.
The city ran Linens of the Week up to their new warehouse near Delmar. They were going to filter their rinse water and use it to wash the linen to try and cut down on consumption.
The city wanted to charge them $2.5 million for the water hookup, that's what one of managers told me. They had plans to build a new $10 million plant in Northwood industrial park.
They have now dropped that idea and I can't blame them. On top of moving a business that helped support the Church Street area, they are also cutting out washing linens here period.
They will now be doing all of the washing in Wilmington, and here will just be a stock on hand at the Delmar warehouse. Another net loss on the job market thanks to this city's administration.
When Barrie was elected, the City was in good shape in all respects, but her actions have methodically devastated it. Her shell game with the sewer and water system has finally reached the end of the line. And look at what has happened with the public streets.
Maybe her affiliation with Hillary Clinton will lead to her getting a post in DC after the election (Not, unfortunately for Salisbury).
EWW Don't give Ole Bubba Clinton any ideas ROFLMAO
People need to stop saying that it does no good to go to a meeting because they can't change the Three Monkeys' minds.
GO! Say, "what you are doing is killing this city!" Say you are sick of their giveaways while you shoulder the load. Say "I don't know what's going on because you people don't tell us!"
Say Something! Because every time you do, someone else learns something. And that something may be what turns the tide to elect someone with some brains in 2009.
Stop with the excuses already. Like the shoe ad said, "Just Do It!"
Remember that Edmund Burke quote Joe posted? "All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to remain silent"?
Stop talking on a blog that most of the VOTERS in Salisbury don't or can't read. Go to the meetings where they can hear you.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it Shields, Campbell and Tilghman are the ones up for reelection in 09. If Comegys runs for Mayor and loses he still keeps his council seat.
75% increase over the last 3 years.
SO FAR!~!
He'll remain the lame duck he has always been.
I plan to be there with bells on my toes! Just hope it helps as its pretty hard in this town to fight city hall!
However, it cant hurt and hope more have the same
idea!
At least the county council welcomes citizen input and advertizes it to get people to come. They should, many have good ideas and what is better than free advice? Another $80,000 study?
