Lieutenant Babe Wilson Graduates from Northwestern University’s Center for Public Safety
The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce the recent graduation of Lieutenant Babe Wilson from the School of Police Staff and Command (SPSC) at Northwestern University. Lieutenant Babe Wilson has successfully completed the ten (10) week Staff and Command program held in Sykesville, Maryland from February 18, 2008 – May 2, 2008 and is the first deputy to attend the training from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office. This program, which was implemented by the Center for Public Safety in 1983, has graduated over 7500 students both nationally and internationally. Lieutenant Babe Wilson was a student in SPSC Class 263 which accommodated a total of 32 students for the ten week period. Lieutenant Babe Wilson was nominated and elected as the President of SPSC #263. Tuition was paid for by the Maryland Highway Safety Office and the Maryland Sheriff’s Association.
The School of Police Staff and Command provides upper-level college instruction in a total of twenty-two core or mandatory blocks of instruction and utilizes nine additional optional blocks of instruction during each session. The major topics of study include: Management and Management Theory, Organizational Behavior, Human Resources for Law Enforcement, Budgeting, Staffing Allocation and Personnel Deployment.
Each student is academically challenged through a total of eighteen written examinations, projects, and quizzes in addition to two research papers that are a required part of the curriculum. Upon successful completion, students may be awarded a total of 8 units of undergraduate credit and a total of 2 units of graduate credit from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
The Center for Public Safety was established at Northwestern University in 1936 with the specific goal of expanding university-based education and training for the Law Enforcement Community. Since its inception, the Center has broadened its original objective and now provides a variety of courses and programs in the area of Police Training, Management Training, and Executive Development.
The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office anticipates a variety of benefits from Lieutenant Babe Wilson attendance at this program. Many of the program’s graduates do go on to achieve a variety of leadership positions within their respective agencies. Currently, over 750 graduates hold the title of Chief of Police and 39 of the 50 Directors of State Police Agencies are also graduates of this program.

If they where out WALKING a beat instead of patting each other on the back LIKE THE GOOD OLE BOYS DO HERE, MAYBE THERE WOULD NOT BE SO MUCH CRIME IN THE FAIR CITY OF SALISBURY.
I hope they were not going to school in Illinois on my tax dollar like See and Gordy have done. I'm not going to stand for it. They can get that training locally. And I'm sure all it does is put Gingerbread on their resumes'. So they can go elsewhere and and make more money.
They are public servants. My public servants. They work on my dime. They need to protect me. Not pad their resume'.
Anon 725 you are confused. These are COUNTY LEO's not CITY. Chief Webster wouldn't send his men off for training, they might learn something and take his job. He has job security as long as that witch is the mayor.
Anon 1138, didn't you read the 2nd sentence? The training was in MD, and was paid for by the State and Maryland Sheriff's Assoc., a combination of tax dollars (state), and donations.
