Petition From FOP To Sue Wicomico County Over Collective Bargaining

While County Executive Rick Pollitt is out of the Office and not able to comment, word is on the street that the FOP is preparing to sue the County over Collective Bargaining. Although fully expected, the FOP discussed processing a lawsuit months ago just so they could be that much farther ahead should they need to take it to that level.

I'm told by Mr. Pollitt's Office that some statement will be made later this afternoon when Rick returns. More to come.......

If they don't like their pay and benefits, they always have the option of finding other employment.

Never having been a cop but having been in a union I would have a little advice for the fop.
I used to work at wayne pumb company in Salisbury, remember when that was once of the biggest employers on the shore. You see what the union did for us, bargained the company right out of Maryland.
If I could offer the rank and file of the sheriffs department one piece of advice it would be this. "Do not let your leadership bargain you out of what you already have."
From what I know the sheriffs deputies do not have it all that bad as it is. Maybe if the union "hard heads" would negotiate in good faith they could get some of what they want.
Remember boys things are tight out here for all of us.

It is not that. The citizens voted to support the FOP. You obviously weren't one of them.

GREAT, another tactic by the "boys in blue" to do nothing but raise thier own pay check. When this happened in Ocean City, it had "nothing to do with money", now see just what it cost the taxpayers, and then EMS got on board, every one wants $100,000 to do less. I left OC, couldn't afford it, Salisbury can't either. Best get a brain folks, because your about to be robbed. It's not just the crooks that steal.

The Fire Department is next, just watch. Joe remember those words. Public safety has become public crooks.

It is not Salisbury, it is Wicomico County. It amazes me how uniformed the public is.

We don't need both a city and sheriff's dept. Get rid of one of them. Use the state police if backup is ever needed. Reduce the size of whichever police force we keep. Issue gun permits to all citizens who qualify. Those selected will not have any police records, psychological evaluations that designate them as questionable and be recommended by 5 citizens as reputable with no vices that could be a problem such as heavy drinking on a regular basis, etc. Yearly renewal classes and range training would be mandatory.

There sueing for their right to have collective bargining, because it is their right. Collective bargining does not garrantee you a raise or benitfits, its a process, "collective" {they have to open the books at the table} "bargining" {it can be give or take} but if the moneies there..it cant be hidden. Wayne pump didnt have collective bargining, if they had maybe they would have seen it coming. Wayne pump blding also has costly asbestis issues {thats why SU didnt buy it} and labor is much cheaper in Mexico, so you may have only been making 15. p/hr instead of 35p/hr and still lost all those jobs. SUPD has collective bargining for about 4yrs now, I dont think they've gotten anything more. The SU pres. is just like the mare, a lier, a cutthroat and a crook. It's not all bad haveing a union lawyer for the PD looking over the books...this is why administrations will even break the law to keep it from happening.

The police can not do anything like the unions did, they can not strike of all take off sick at once. It is illegal for them to so many of the things the former unions did. It is just a right to sit and ask, being a para-military organization, they do not have the right to ask without this. Please get informed before you make such statements, ask a cop, a firefighter what is really going on. You wonder why they are in bad moods, ask about what they deal with, then judge.

Cops and firemen have one of the easiest jobs. They have more ass-sitting time while waiting for something to happen. You've all seen them drinking coffee, telling jokes, running women, etc. I would like to see one of them teach school for a day or work on a DP&L crew putting in new service or doing repairs in the rain, cold or snow. And life goes on.

while i'm opposed to unions, it's not the unions at fault. they want whatever, and the company either "caves" or not.
