Whether there is overkill in use of Trooper 4, keep in mind Delmar patient was not transported by copter. He was transported by Hebron EMS. My guess is Trooper 4 was arriving on scene to assist in the police pursuit.
What will happen IF the system is privatized.. You and your insurance company will be fighting over the +/- $6,000.00 fee. If insurance pays this fee, everybody who is insured will carry the burden. I can assure you your insurance rates will go up more than the approx. $18.00 MVA fee now charged. Is the current system overused? Yes. But if you are the person injured and possibly in need of a medavac flight any and all precautions are warranted. REMEMBER it could be you who needs this service. Don't put a price on my, yours or anyone elses chance to live Signed, A person who needed this service AND insured.
I wanted to let you know the pictures we used in the Route 13 post were not of that incident but one from the day before.
My 8-year old son and 4 neighborhood kids had been given permission to walk to the park in Pocomoke on Saturday afternoon.
About 2-hours later I heard then saw the MD State Police coming in and there is only one reason they come to Pocomoke.
It's never a joke, its always serious and Johns Hopkins is about 22-minutes by air & PGH in Salisbury even less time.
I jumped into my truck without saying a word to my wife or the other moms just to check on the kids.
Upon my arrival the youngest shouted out "we don't have to walk Mr Billy is here..." so they all jumped in and I asked if they wanted to see the helicopter.
Hence the pictures I used in the mother and child being killed inn about the same location later that night.
The cost for an ambulance from Pocomoke to Salisbury is about $800 if your family is not signed up for the annual support plan of about $100 per year.
There is something called 'The Golden Hour' after a trauma and I thank God that for the Maryland State Police and their helicopter service.
In Maryland we pay taxes out the KAZOO and in my opinion this is an excellent use of my tax dollars.
If it had been my child or one in his group that needed to get to the Trauma center you can be darn sure the sound of the chooper blades would be music to my ears.
Maybe it was overkill in the Delmar accident, maybe not, I don't care.
Please "waste" my money saving lives...
Please continue to use "overkill" when it comes to medical emergency responses that save lives during 'The Golden Hour'.
As a Maryland resident & taxpayer I say if they err on the side of getting too many people to qualified medical service too fast, God Bless the Maryland State Police Helicopter Corps.

So "A person who needed the service" what is your name? Why did you need the service? Did it "save" your life? Where were you needed service? What did they do to save your life? Many of us would like to know why it was so important to need the service.
There is not OVERKILL when The Fire Department or EMS call for the service of MSP to fly those patients by Helicopter. There are protocols that are set by MEIMSS.
Here is a link that Explains the MECHANISM OF INJURY for Trauma Patients!

RETARD!!! WTF does a link have to do with science. The point of the article is that science proves that there is overuse and overkill of helicopters in EMS.
By the way the link doesn't work.
By the way it is MIEMSS not MEIMSS.
Oh intelligent one Firefighter - EMT-B tell us more about the protocol set by "MEIMSS" that justifies the use of helicopters and proves that the use of helicopter aren't overkill. Show us where the protocol is that says you have to call for a helicopter?
YOU, Firefighter EMT-B wannabe are are an embarrassment to the Fire Service as well as Emergency Medical Services.
Firefighter EMT-B why don't you sign your real name so that people will realize that you are an idiot and not the entire fire service.
Attention all Firefighters!!! If Joe Albero ever needs emergency help, please send ambulance, rescue squad, helicopter, his priest and Holloway Funeral Home's hearse. He deserves the royal treatment as the name "JOE ALBERO" is a household name just like Martha Stewart.Leave no stone unturned for his "Greatness".
Anonymous @ 846PM Why did you not put YOUR Real name on here?
In the county where I work and have been for 19 years, we do have protocols for asking for a helicopter. I'm not sure if your even involved with the Fire Service.
You are more than likely one of those who want to bring in private firms to cover air transport.
Oh and if you look the Link was cut off by borders from the blog comment area. It works, I was just there 5 mins ago! Why dont you leave me your email address and I can send you Protocols from the Great State of Montgomery!

I fail to see what is so wrong in having the best system in the country.

If a patient in a vehicle accident complains of not being able to feel their legs or arms, they will be flown.
If it turns out they are ultimately fine, and soon leave the hospital shortly afterwards, were the EMS professionals on scene wrong for flying them?
