Wicomico County States Attorney Davis Ruark Was Arrested Last Night In OC For DUI

Police arrested States Attorney Davis Ruark Friday night.

Someone called and report a vehicle driving erratically down Rt. 90 and gave a description and tag number to the vehicle. The vehicle Davis was driving is owned by Wicomico County. He also failed several sobriety tests.

More to come.......

HOLY CHIT.

looks like there may be a job opening or will he find a good lawyer to get him off on a technicality.

Did they impound the car?

All of the respect he had lost because of something like this. Maybe it's no wonder college kids have trouble controlling their drinking when a pillar of the community drinks to excess and then drives.

CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS DOUBLE STANDARD TOWN????? OMG HOW MANY HAS HE PUT IN JAIL FOR THIS CRIME (AS HE SHOULD)? IM SO APPAULED AND ASHAMED. WHAT A DISRESPECT TO ALL WHO HAVE DEPENDED ON THIS MAN AND WICOMICO COUNTY TO PROTECT US AND OUR KIDS ON THE ROADS. THIS SON OF A BITCH COULD OF KILLED A FAMILY/CHILD/MOTHER/SISTER/BROTHER/FATHER OK??????????? I HOPE HE GETS TIME AND I HOPE WE GET A NEW SOBER STATES ATTORNEY!!! WE NEED TO DRUG AND ALCOHOL TEST THIS BUNCH YA THINK?????????GRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrr ENRAGED!!!!

Joe,

I don't know how you do it but your always the first to get the story. It's a sad time for Wicomico County and only seems to be getting worse.

WHAT A REALLY STUPID THING TO DO!Twenty plus year career and possible judgeship down the tubes.HARDHEAD

if i were in his position, i'd "have a few" too.
alas, he didn't call a "pat" driver. it's a shame.
don't be too quick to judge him, until you've walked in his shoes.

There is no question about it. Mr. Ruarks case will be swept under the rug because of who he is.

The job of States Attorney in Wicomico County is an elected position and Mr. Ruark should do what is right for his constituents. RESIGN!

He is an attorney and he can make much more money in private practice.

Davis, thank you for your service and committment to the citizens of Wicomico County.

Anonymous said...

Who did he have those drinks with. He surely has enough on his plate, of late.
Can't help but wonder, if he was "set up".

Anonymous said...

Hey, how about all the county's money that will be spent on this.

Anonymous said...

Was he provided with a county car? And if so who paid for the gas for his night out on the town?

This is really sad. The people we put our trust in are human just like all of us and sometimes the pressure might make them act, think or do things they wouldn't normally do. Let's not kick this man while he's down. Just as we shouldn't kick Ray Lewis while he is. Don't get me wrong they deserve whatever punishment they get by law and that's it. If we attack anyone when they are in trouble or keep kickiing them when they are going thru a low point in their life then we are making just as bad a decision as they did. we all have made a bad decision somewhere along the line. I don't uphold what was done, but I'm not going to kick this man when his down.

According to the police report from another news source website the vehicle was the county issued vehicle that we, the tax payers paid for. IMHO Mr. Ruark has no option other than resign. He is a "County/State employee" who works for us. This is unacceptable and should not be tolerated. Mr. Ruark I am sorry, but you need to resign effective immediately. Most employers have rules about drinking and driving, abusing the privileges of take home vehicles, etc.

Absolute power, corrupts absolutely!
I wonder if he paid for he gas in the county car.
Kudo,s to the cop who did the right thing and to who ever called 911. Better to have it end this way than a head on with some innocent sober person.

Have you honestly sat there and read back what you wrote? What a freaking moron you are!!! If you were in his position you would have a few too----let's see..how about having a few at home and staying there! Why should we feel sorry for his position/job/career. He chose his career just as we all do---no one held a gun to his head and made him take that position. Giving him a pardon to drink and drive because of what his job entails is crap. Point is, he could have very well killed innocent people and if Sheriff Lewis is as great as everyone on this blog says he is than he should participate in seeing that Ruark gets the same punishment as if it was just you or I who had committed this crime. I personally believe that Ruark didn't think twice about drinking and driving and just figured if he got caught than all he would have to do is say "I'm Davis Ruark, Wicomico County States Attorney" and he would be allowed to go. I applaud the police officer/department for arresting him. Not to mention he was in a government vehicle......well I feel great in knowing my tax dollars are well spent. And people are worried about where the State Police and City Police and Fire Vehicles are parked on a daily basis eating lunch and so forth.....why don't we worry about more important issues like our States Attorney using his citizen paid for vehicle for drinking pleasures and risking innocent lives!

Anonymous said...

Thank you to the caller that reported the irratic driving, you may verywell have saved his or someone else's life. A special Thank You to the arresting Officer, for not "turning the other cheek", surely you must of known who he was before you even seen his license.

There needs to be an accounting of county/city vehicles that are currently being used by employees who reside in other Counties and in some cases, other States; i.e., there's a City inspector who apparently commutes with his County car to Bethany Beach every day. Who Pays?

The fire chief lives in Delaware and drives a new Crown Vic home every day. The previous Deputy Chief had a new take home Crown Vic he drove back and forth to Laurel Delaware every day. The current Deputy Chief has a new Crown Vic that he drives back and forth to Waste Gate Road in Parsonsburg every day and is seen on a daily basis driving his family around in it. The Volunteer Deputy Chief drives a Crown Vic to his job every single day in Delmar at taxpayers expense. When is this Bullshit going to stop. The current price of gas is more than $3 a gallon.

Why was a state employee driving a county vehicle?
Does he have another job paid by the county?
Also "would've had a few too" didn't say he shouldn't have stayed at home to drink & didn't say he should get away with it. Just empathetic.
BTW, what's happened to the p.a.t. program, anyways?

Ruark is the Wicomico COUNTY State's Attorney. Hence a COUNTY car.

Mike Lewis has nothing to do with it because the offense took place outside of his jurisdiction.

Barrie Tilghman has to be jumping for joy. She hates Davis Ruark.

The irony is, she allegedly got stopped for DUI/DWI, but no report was filed. So, she'll doubly revel in how much more important she is than Ruark.

Anonymous said...

Although he is the County State's Attorney, he is paid by the state and it's a state vehicle, not a county vehicle. As a first time offender, the worst he'll get is PBJ, probation before judgement. A judge is not going to give a first time offender jail time.

I just noted that The Daily Times (on line) has removed all comments that have been made so far about his arrest and the ability to make additional comments is no longer possible since they took down the story chat link. These comments included the official record of the DUI arrest/prosecution of his son last summer and the reason why he was going to Ocean City last night. Why would The Daily Times do this?

Somebody ought to look into how disgruntled his attorney's are and how much of a shambles the office is in....that's the real story

Anonymous said...

And what did it say about why he was going to Ocean City last night?

Anonymous said...

According to another news hound post on the Daily Times website (and since removed), he has recently been living in Ocean City, so one would assume he was driving home.

HELLO?!?!?!?!??! Davis Ruark was born in 1985?????? That makes him what, 22 or something????

Can we say TYPO????? Or could this be a different Davis Ruark?????

teacherlady, that cannot be States Attn Davis Ruark did you see the height listed? 5"10" holy s--- Davis would not be that tall if he was standing on Barbara Mikulski's stool.

Anonymous said...

Teacherlady--it was his son, last summer arrest

Anonymous said...

Doesn't Davis have a son that would be about that age? Could this whole thing be a case of wrong identification? Davis certainly seemed better squared away than what is being reported here. But, I can be wrong on this and hope things go well for Davis, if it really is our Davis Ruark.

obviously, newshound didn't pay attention to the DOB. I figured it might be his son, but I would think that the poster should have clarified that it was his son, as a lot of people would just look at the name and make an assumption.

Can you imagine the difficult position Mr. Ruarks decision to continue on as States Attorney puts his Deputy States Attorneys' in.
They are and extension of his office there very power flows through him Or as Opus once said he is us.
Could not imagine the difficultie of someone in his office prosecuting a DWI/DUI after this.
Mr. Ruark will most likely have to get a visiting States Attn from another county to do all his DUI/DWI cases.
My God what a mess his lack of judgement has gotten the county criminal justice system in.

From the daily times web blog comments section...

"FAIR WARNING TO STORY CHAT USERS.

Comments regarding this story earlier today strayed beyond acceptable lines.

In fairness, it is inappropriate to make comments about parties beyond the scope of this news story. Mr. Ruark is fair game for your commentary; others are not.

Be reminded too that Mr. Ruark stands accused, but has not been convicted in a court of law.

The StoryChat Administrator will immediately remove any potentially libelous or defammatory comments. StoryChat members who violate the terms of service will be disabled from participation."

Is this same courtesy extended to all news blogs? I don't think so. "The StoryChat Administrator will immediately remove any potentially libelous or defamatory comments." Then I expect the daily times who is filtering comments on this blog to extend the same to all people in their news stories and comments to those.

The fact is that this is being filtered by the daily times because of who the accused is and what connections he has. The States Attorney for the county has been arrested for DUI. For him to stay in office is a farce on our criminal justice system. He should resign now or be impeached.

Although it does not supprise me that he wants to stay in office and "get this behind him". His ego does not allow him to resign. A states attorney, driving a county or state vehicle, stopped for DUI on a citizen complaint! Come on. Kutos to the Ocean City Police for being not corruptable.

Davis: Do the honorable thing. RESIGN.

There should be no question about it. Davis Ruark should resign immediately.

He who is with "out" sin cast the first stone. You may not or have not done such. But I doubt you have been perfect. I served as a police officer for years, Was not perfect and did not claim to be. Do not recall a time of DWI. I do recall officers having problems with such. Ruark has a job where he handles many things. I have no idea if he has a drinking problem or not. I assure you the judge will have an assesment done to find out. Let him have his day in court and for God sakes give this man a chance to pay for his crime. I doubt the judge will give any breaks as he will answer for his judgement. And the big one is did the police officer make a mistake while arresting him? not sure but I have seen people walk for much more than DWI for a police officers mistake. That are the rules we all play by. We do not change them for anyone. Wait for the trial to pass judgement.
