Morale is lower. Just ask any Deputy. Sheriff Lewis puts a good face out there for the public to view but it's not that way on the inside at all. It's not like he came on board a year ago and magically turned things around. Hunter did a fine job when he was here. Mikey just does a better job of self promotion. Sorta like you Joe. I guess that's why you two get along so well.

You deputies should be proud to have Top Cop Mike Lewis running that department. If there are any deputies over there that aren't happy it's probably because you can't keep up with your boss. Get use to it because the citizens of this county love Mike Lewis and we will vote him in as long as he runs for sheriff. I would go as far to say that he is one of the top if not the top law enforcement officer in the world. This guy is great and I'm being 100% serious.
By the way I have several deputy friends and they say Mikes the best thing that happened to that department.
239 i work with over 80 deputies and they all have the same thing to say morale is at a all time low sheriff lewis has alot to offer but he only is as good as his deputies allow him to be dont forget he does not take reports hump calls write search warrants/arrest warrants this is what deputies have done long before sheriff lewis came along and sheriff lewis is the best thing that happen to the sheriff office but give credit to the men and women that do the work
Joe I think you are right. I think these are officers from another department that are jealous they don't work for the best leader law enforcement has ever seen in these parts.
From the outside looking in, what I see is a bunch of deputies allowed to do their jobs without fear of reprecussion. I also see deputies riding around in new vehicles with top of the line equipment in which they take great pride. Those that might not be happy might be the ones that now have piles and piles and piles of paperwork to do considering all of the police work now being done. Maybe things were always this way, if they were, WHY were the achievements and accomplishments of the WCSO and its deputies not publicized? We only know what we see and read. We only know what the deputies relay to us when asked.
If you are not happy with Mike Lewis either suck it up or move on. There is always an option.
Then again, the problem might be that Mike has so much energy that those whining and crying now have to do what they are paid to do. EARN THEIR LIVING.
As a citizen of the city & county I'm proud of the WC sheriffs office and his deputies.

All the departments in this area all have a long way to go before they become a premier law enforcement agency. WCSO is on its way but it still has growing pains. Morale is low at times; they still have to fight to get a decent retirement. Fight to get collective bargaining in place that the voters already said they should have and the council says no. SPD morale is low, they are under paid, under staffed, lead by a person who has no personal interest in Salisbury (not from here, doesn’t live here, leaves early), not enough equipment. WCSO has hired 6 officers from FPD in the last two years du to their low pay and morale. Just leaves DPD, ask them they love their chief but the town officials still have yet to stand behind a promise to give them collective bargaining they said they were going to give them. Morale low in law enforcement I wonder why; lets see, you go to calls where you get all their problems dumped on your shoulders, get yelled at, spit at, cursed at, stared at just for being there protecting, and then have the town, city, county you work for break it’s promises and not take care of you. Joe, morale can be low even with the king in charge. If you want a healthy child that grows up to be productive then you take care of it. If you want a police officer/deputy/trooper to be energetic productive law enforcement officer then protect them, take care of them.
