PRESS RELEASE FROM FIRE CHIEF LARMORE

At their meeting of 19 February 2008, the City Council voted that Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company Chief Chris Larmore be given complete authority and responsibility for all fire and emergency medical services for the Town of Ocean City. This is an interim appointment that comes with seven conditions enumerated by Council President Mitrecic who advised Chief Larmore that official correspondence would be forthcoming. Chief Larmore advised the City Council that, upon receipt and study of the City proposal, the Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company would respond promptly. In the intervening time, Chief Larmore stated that the Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company will continue to provide emergency responce. Chief Larmore also stressed his appreciation for the support of the community which will continue to be the primary focus of any future decisions.

Give him full authority over the paid E.M.S. Division?? What the hell does he know about being a paramedic?? This is the biggest mistake any elected official could do. If I was a paid paramedic in Ocean City I would get a job somewhere else before I allowed a volunteer firefighter with no E.M.S. experience and minimal fire experience ruin my career.

Salisbury has paramedic openings. Most other agencies around here do also
David See doesn't have any paramedic experience either. Thats why you appoint someone who does. Like when Lorzeno Cropper and Chris O'Barsky. Give the guy a break.
Interesting how the "paid folks" like to attack someone anonymously. Nobody said you all had to stay.
Remember your leader "Maykrantz" ratified an agreement on your behalf. Supposedly had your best interests at heart. You agreed to live by that contract. We all told you to be careful what you asked for; you may just get it. Now that you have it, you no longer want it? Sorry guys, real life jobs don’t work that way. You don’t have a say in the matter as to “who” you report to. Remember, you’re an employee. Just show up and do your job that you promised to do.
However that too is also a double edged sword. Nobody is keeping you here either. Leave when you wish. Trust me, we’ll find replacements for you. Everyone is replaceable.

Judging by your posted photo it looks like the chief used the paper his press release was written on for rolling doobies in a van down by the river....Hugs and Kisses;Matt Foley.
not that I take a side but when did a paramedic patch make that person the know all of ems and also to be put in a supervisory position. Other training is very important as well. Also there will be a real chief from a bigger city someday and the vollies down there will get a dose of their own medicine one day.
Looks like its pretty easy to get a job in OC. All you have to do is go to city hall and ask them to create a really big position for you. Anything you want....looks like you don't even have to go through the interview process to prove your qualified for a job of great magnitude. As long as you volunteer to do it, within a few hours the job is yours! If they say no at first, just cry a little bit and then they'll change their mind. Sounds easy to me!

Maybe the person wearing that paramedic patch has more training, experience, knowledge, and responsibility than the wannabe volunteer fire chief.

Did anyone see WBOC news coverage of the meeting? Did you see the one guy walk out and right between the reporter and the camera and stick his middle finger up to the camera? Must have been a career employee, wonder what kind of disciplinary action will be taken against him.
Yes, the Volunteer Fire Company will continue to serve the community right? Oh I guess it still is as they choose.
Fire Alarm at the Public Works Building 206 at 65 street.
No Volunteer Response, and 9 Career people responded out of 13.
Yet we still say we will continue to serve huh?

Yea im pretty sure I have to agree with that 100%. He will get his, don't worry about that.
Couple of things:
1. Chief Larmore is a past CRT/EMT-I. There goes the lack of EMS training argument.
2. Joe Theobold was a volunteer fire chief and low level police manager...Looks like 25 years of business management by Larmore looks equally qualified, if not better.
3. For anyone who has ever sat through a MFRI "attend and here-is-your-pocket-card" class, being "qualified" to lead or manage is ENTIRELY different than technically certified by MFRI or Pro-Boards.
4. For all the individuals posting: As we respond, it is likely clear to the public that we are firefighters and have a vested interest in the forum. Please slow down and look at what you write....you make us all look ignorant and illiterate between cursing acronyms ("WTF") and misspellings (Your wrong-You're wrong). Let's all try to be "professional," paycheck or not.
5. In regards to the fire alarm ACTIVATION (there is a difference from a FIRE ALARM), time and personnel management is something that is often overlooked. With 9 personnel staring at a fire alarm panel, do we really need a handful more to watch them? I would hope that the career staff could handle such an incident.
I hope that Mr. Maykrantz and the rest of our brothers in the IAFF Local recognize the outstanding situation they find themselves in. As mentioned, they are employees, and once the City is done using them for what they need (edging out the OCVFC), they will likely find themselves in a similar situation to the Police...Having to fight and scrap for every step along the way. Although membership in the IAFF won't allow them to endorse a volunteer leader, they can endorse policy decisions that move them in the direction the Local wants: safety for personnel, improved service to the community, and professionalism.
How much better could a Local have it than to need to approach the City Council with the backing of leadership and the VOLUNTEER fire company when looking for more staff, better training/equipment, etc? For those that talk to folks in the Local...encourage them to not lose sight of the forest for the trees. Instead of fighting with the Vollies, how about stepping up and making sure the Vollies can't live without them, and won't let the city treat them badly?
