With more than 200 people in attendance, "there's about 5 times the normal crowd here tonight" said one Police Officer. Citizens were standing for hours. They were packed against the wall like Catholics on Christmas Day in Church. They were even lined out the hallway, 99% of them there to support their Volunteer Fire Fighters.
It's a trust thing. One hour before the Council met last night they were handed a 19 page "Overview and recommendations for the fire service" by the Emergency Service Director, Joseph Theobald. The Volunteers simply can't trust the Council, it's that simple.
Some Council Members threw a fit over the short notice of such an important document and the length of it, they had literally no time to review it. Sound familiar Salisbury? Other Council Members wanted to talk about how they represent the people, maybe not everyone attending but they represent the people. IMO, BS! THE PEOPLE were there last night, open your eyes! The people spoke out against the majority of the Council, been there, done that. Welcome to Salisbury, I thought to myself.
I saw the Barrie Scheme hard at work last night in the City Council and I personally challenge them as they did not VOTE to amend the Agenda last night, yet they voted on an item that wasn't even on the Agenda and The Daily Slime didn't even pick up on it.
Perhaps I'm wrong. Perhaps this is just the Eastern Shore and the Good Old Boys can do whatever they like? Nevertheless, it was slammed in the Chief's face last night and I then came to learn that Salisbury Chief See was a Guest last week in the Council Meeting. Wanna know why? Because Chief See is desperate to keep the Fire Fighters he currently has and IF the Town of Ocean City goes 100% paid, Salisbury will get crushed!
The Police were present in full force last night as it was told to me their Chief had been asking around, who can tow Fire Trucks? They expected a riot last night and I even overheard one of the Officers on the phone telling command that things were pretty normal, no one was getting out of line and he recommended they release at least the day shift Officers. Now that's too funny!
Mr. Bobby Jester got up at one point and expressed to one of the Council Members that their math wasn't so great. You see, this Council Member challenged how in the heck someone could figure out it would cost the City $7,000,000.00 if they went to a fully paid Staff? Well, Bobby clearly explained by throwing out the number of paid Fire Fighters they would have to hire, plus benefits. That came to around $4,000,000.00 a year. Then there's the real estate the Volunteers own as well, worth millions. There was NO rebuttal from the Council and or that particular Council Member challenging the numbers in the first place.
I need to at least get this Post up and get to more details later. This way if someone has something to say, they can get started now. More to come.....

99% of the people were there to support the volunteers???? Don't think so! That's the problem with all of this. There are too many people who are just not getting it. They don't know all the facts. A lot of those men in attendance were paid and they aren't going to be to happy when they have to answer to someone who is in an acting position that isn't even close to meeting the qualifications of the permanent chief's requirements. The fire company even admitted that it will take a nationwide search to find the right person. There are many volunteers who were against the move and would not leave OC no matter what. These are the real men who do it for the right reasons. Don't label all the volunteers as supporting this because it is just not true.
good reporting on the Ocean City Fire fighters Joe, it is time that they realize without "free fire fighting" firemen and women they are basicly up in smoke. However "Catholics in church" and "good ol boy" are unacceptable reporting and a real reporter would be all over themselves apologizing to those insulted, very democrat policy if I must say.
The relationship you seem to enjoy with the Sheriff is open to revision as a "Good Ol Boy" relationship, as your other contacts seem to imply also. So if you want to insult religions, and locals just keep doing like you are doing, like you like to say "Listen You Idot" you just don't get it

Yesterday morning the Ocean City Government was in front of the Worcester County Supervisors asking for (demanding) a $14 million 'set-off' on property taxes.
The City of Ocean City claims they are being charged $14 Million per year in duplicate services from the County.
The claim is at just under 10% of the annual county budget 20X the statewide set-off average...
Interesting these two events are timed this way.
As a 'cradle Catholic' I am not offended by your description of the crowd as its a pretty accurate analogy.

I will be the first to tell you ALL! The OCVFC bullied the city into this. I know for a fact that at know time did the city threaten to kick to OCVFC out of the city. The OCVFC voted to relocate on thier own. I am here to tell all that that is still the plan. I have been told by 2 OCVFC chiefs that they are still planning to move to west OC by the end of this year. So let it be known to all at no time gas or did the city make a move to kick out the OCFVC. This was all the actions of the OCVFC itself. As for meing anonymous I can not leave my name as I am a OCVFC member & city employee. This is fact ask the OCVFC volunteers that are there for PUBLIC SAFETY and not the ego & power trip. ASK!! Get informed and stop reading and hearing the LIES by the OCVFC power players...
Ridiculous. Don't get your way, threaten to leave, then blame the town council. After that, post false bulletins everywhere stating the town made you leave, and get the citizenry to support you under false pretenses.
This is some of the most childish, immature behavior I've ever seen from people who state their 'best' interests are for 'the citizens'. Sound pretty damn selfish to me.

WTF? The volunteers made a spectacle of this issue? All they wanted was a "temporary" position? It sounds like someone wants to stroke their ego (or something else).

Yeah! O.C. has a new fire chief, can you all keep your toys in O.C. now? This debacle has been such a joke along with the ego-trip involved..."they won't let me be chief"...wtf...some kids never grow up.

Rumor has it his first mission is to fire Joe Theobald and others....from what I read he is only being "TEMPORARY--INTERIM" Fire Chief---not in charge of communications, emergency management, and whatever elso Mr. Theobald is assigned to supervise/manage so I do not think the new Chief can fire him

You see these OCVFC SUV's all over the damn place. I saw Chief Larmore with his child pulling into the Wal-Mart/Sams Club shopping center about a week ago. These "Chiefs" in Ocean City drive these vehicles all over the place and you can't tell me their on any sort of "official" business. It's bullshit. You've got one of the volly chiefs over there who has driven his drunk more than once. It's a friggin joke.

Burnt Up, you could be referring to one of the many chief's vehicles. Several of them have kids. May not have been Larmore, but your probably on the right track as to OCVFC Chief's abusing their vehicles.
However it is stated they have a 60 mile radius that they must be available to respond. Meaning that they can take it within 60 mile of personal business. However if they can con it off as fire business, they can go wherever they please.
Most likely to SFD on B shift if he gets third assistant Chief. Knew he wasn't doing a good deed. He just wants that nice Tahoe so he saves gas. Damn that four runner must be giving you a hard time Jay, either that or the Union Stopped representing you because of you hypocritical point of view.
