Guess Who's Not Coming to Dinner

In an earlier post we noted that Salisbury Mayor Barrie Tilghman, "the woman who claims full responsibility", is not expected to attend today's Salisbury City Council work session to field questions. Now we have a new drop out.

Guess who called in sick today? Salisbury Finance Director Pam Oland. That's right folks. The woman responsible for the financial management of Salisbury doesn't feel well and is unable to face the taxpayers of Salisbury.

She's not at PRMC, I checked. Given the gravity of the city's financial condition I'm shocked that Oland would shirk her responsibilities and hide at home like a school girl trying to get out of a test.

Of course, she may just be making good use of her city medical benefits before Barrie Tilghman and Louise Smith try their pincer movement and sack her to deflect attention from themselves.

Perhaps John Pick and city auditor Herb Geary will come down with the same bug before 4:30 this afternoon. I saw Louise Smith on PAC-14 the other day and she wasn't looking well ...

Where's Barrie hiding at -- she should be drawn (kicking and screaming in a stupor, most likely) to the meeting.

Oland must be using the day to polish her resume and send it to firms (hopefully, far and wide).

Oland is probably sitting in with her attorney trying to figure out how to cover her ass.

She might be working out a deal with the state prosecutor in exchange for immunity.

If Barrie decides (or is forced) to attend the work session, please discuss this with her (it's from a comment to a prior post):

Joe..see if you can get a copy of the FY2007 budget request from the finance dept. You will see that an additional accoutant was requested by the dept. but denied by the mayor and not put into her budget presented to council.

Huzzah, it's Super Monday for Salisbury residents!

Anon-10:53 --

Instead of hiring the personnel she now claims to be needed to do the books, she created a special position in her office (under Pick) for Lore Chambers, her PR person. It's outrageous.

Cato:

It's not that Barrie does not want to be there, but she has so many "better" things on her plate these days:

1. Maryland Historical Trust member

2. Board member of the Local Government Insurance Trust ("LGIT")

3. Lobbying for more taxes in Annapolis as an O'Malley and Maryland Municipal League spokesperson

And I almost forgot -- working for Hillary Clinton and running as a delegate to the Democrat Convention this summer committed to Hillary. So until the primary election next week she simply can't be bothered.

I suggest that any city employee with concrete information that implicates Barrie and her gang of thieves utiise the " whistle blowers" law and come forth NOW. Do the right thing for this city and its hardworking taxpayers. Ride by Barries house and see all of the landscaping thats going on--she's flush with cash.

ANON at 11:50:

Is that landscaping work being done by T. J. Maloney's partner in those rental houses?

It's fall over for Barrie and Louise. Citizens show up EARLY today; it's your duty. There is no excuse which is good enough for you to be absent. We can change City history and be rid of Barrie and her toads.

Well, looks like the rats do run and hide when the cats show up. Hope Louise and John Pick make the meeting, so they can pass on to the other two what everyone thinks of this malfeasance being put upon the tax payers of this city, which best be the last time we allow such occurrences, and we work for some quick changes in the administration of this city. Clean them all out, or we'll continue with the same!

i thought we were to be treated to a kinder and gentler blog this year. i understand that you are upset about the missing audit information. lets hope and pray she recovers from her ailment

She's full of a lot more than accountability and responcibilities.

Barrie's toads gave her warts.

If I were an accountant, what would keep me from subtracting a certain amount from both columns A and B under income, and NOT adding either column to the general ledger? (Aside from loosing my job) When these column amounts are discovered at audit and labeled surplus, who's to say how much money actually belongs in either of these columns? How can you know? As I said, I'm no accountant, but I can add up both columns.
