A Comment Worth Posting

"Exactly it would be great to have a team like this on this side of county but the fire departments here already work themselves to death to just provide the everyday equipment that they need. The SO team in salisbury is only used a handful of times in a whole year. Incidents like those at the water tower do not happen often, how can companies justify spending all of this money when it isn't used. I just don't think these fire departments can swing that kind of money. Yes, it is a fantastic idea for the volunteers of wicomico county, so we can stand as one and not have to rely on others (salisbury FD) but they get tax dollars to fund that, guarantee parsonsburg won't and their team would probably more put together than that of salisbury. But we all know Wicomico county won't do anything to help."

That being the case and that being your feelings, do explain to me why Salisbury needs a $800,000.00 Fire Boat then?

The guys in the smaller all volunteer FD's work for what they need, and for what they want. They also know that they have to take care of what they have or answer to the community that they serve. How long do you think it would take for the Salisbury FD to raise enough to buy an $800,000 boat?

Farm boy, I'll tell you now, it will take them a long damned time if they're waiting for me to donate to anything until some of the questions asked on another post are answered. I'm not giving Barrie Tilghman one red cent of mine to spend that I don't have to. I might have to pay taxes but I damn sure don't have to donate anything.

I am the one who posted that comment and I DO NOT think that salisbury FD needs an $800,000 fire boat. Take for example Sharptown FD they are located right on the Nanticoke river, now granted they don't have a lot of calls for the boat, they do get called to assist others like Seaford and Laurel with their boat. But they just have a nice little 20ft I think Carolina Skiff. That would be like Sharptown deciding they needed an $800,000 boat for the maybe 15 calls they have for a year. But there is a difference with Sharptown, they make their own money and if they want to spend it that way they can. But Salisbury has to justify their boat to the taxpayers and I don't think anyone really thinks they it, when was the last time they needed a boat to fight a fire anyway???
Just call me disgusted

Well, I'm all for Public Safety. Say, here's an idea for SFD to fudnd the boat: take one of the doors off of the new firehouse and sell it at the Rt. 13 market in Laurel...
