So Nation, How Much Did YOUR Fire Station Cost?

Even though the City only paid around $300,000.00 for the land, (which is also questionable as to who owned it in the LLC) the new Station in Salisbury is costing us around $10,000,000.00! Yep, little old Salisbury Maryland is trying to out do ANY other Fire Station in the entire United States and then they're throwing sheet metal on the exterior and trying to impress upon the Taxpayers here that this is the going rate to build a Fire Station.

I'll come back later with the total square footage of Salisbury's but I can assure you, it's much smaller than some of the high price tagged Fire Stations you're seeing above. Again, this in NO WAY reflects the Fire Men & Women. This is solely based on the Mayor, Gary Comegys, Chief See & Deputy Chief Gordy.

This magazine is called FIRE CHIEF MAGAZINE and is delivered to Chief Seamore, (AKA See) every month. Don't think for a minute that See & Gordy are clueless to this information as they saw it before I did.

How do all of you feel about your $10,000,000.00 Fire Station Now?

More to come.......

The same scenario for all of the dirty under-handed slimy deals in Salisbury. One of the FOB's is paid 500% more than the land is worth, one of the FOB's is paid 800% more to build something than it should cost and the Bamk of Delmarva is undoubtedly holding the paper involved as well. Greed and Corruption are the hallmarks of the Barrie Tilghman regime.

I saw a plea for money from the SFD to replace equipment this morning in the Times. Maybe if a bit of fiscal management existed the $10,000,000 could have covered all the needs and they would not try to drain more from the taxpayers!! I really do not have any problems giving fire departments what they NEED to protect the community but to fund what they WANT is a different situation. They could have built 2 smaller stations and had money left over plus had better coverage.

Not only is it absurdly extravagantly expensive it is UGLY.What local Salisbury architect designed this eyesore? Bet they got paid 600% more than they should have as well. ONE SICK CITY

well, if it is like Station 1 within the first year they had to spend a ton of money because the concrete walls leaked. The building was under sized from the begiining.

THEY SHOULD have kept HQ's with a Engine, Truck and Medic unit.

Build a substation North and West for that money and could have bought all new equipment.

I HAVE TO AGREE on this one Joe, HOW STUPID TO SPEND 10mill

WHo did See blow.

Anon 934, the answer to your question is Barrie Tilghman and Bubba Comegys. He's a switch hitter.

Was this the lowest # they got for this project? They did bid this project out, did they? Was it a sealed bid?
The numbers are so astounding, i can't imagine what they are getting for the buck.

Has anyone ever found out the names of the LLC owners who scored 300,000 for the bog?

One word--RIPOFF.

Also, Joe credited the pics as coming from the magazine, or did you not read the bottom of the post. Oh, I forgot, you don't want to be bothered with little things like facts.

There's no question that this station is one big ripoff of the tax payers and is yet another payoff of some FOB's. Why put a station full of heavy equipment on top of a Bog that could begin sinking as soon as they move the firetrucks onboard? Just does not make any sense at all. I agree, two substations would have cost a lot less and been more effective.

You can beat this horse to death, but this is fact. The City is committed to this station and it will soon be occupied. End of story. We can talk about it for days, but its still going to open.

Yep, it's a "done deal" or "Dunn deal" if you like. I'm disappointed in its design -- Algonquin's looks more "Salisbury-ish."

The cost was due to the haste. I hear they did a method called "design build" where they don't do the traditional design it, then bid it, then build it.

So, the contractors get to charge up to the budget amount. Costs more, but gets done faster.

So what was the stinkin' rush?

There were so many weird things going on about this station that it seems sort of tainted somehow. I just don't get a sense of pride when I drive by. I just feel shafted.

No offense to the rank and file. They didn't have any say in the matter.

Yes you can beat this dead horse and I encourage every one to beat it every single minute of the day and every day of the week.

Keep this TAXPAYER RIPOFF exposed. This is something that should not be forgotten especially with a mayoral election in less than two years. Mr. Albero I beg you to keep these posts going on a weekly basis. We will never forget!!!
