God, Joe, that is scary. I used to live in that area, and have always thought it to be safe. Boy, was I wrong.
I will still never forget that about a month before I got married, my then-fiance was brutally mugged and beaten. My fiance didn't fight back because he feared they had a weapon. They turned his fact to ground beef, and he still gets scared in parking lots at night. They still have not found any suspects or arrested anyone. We even followed up with the Worcester Co. Sherriff's office when we started getting harrassing phone calls from an inmate at the Worcester Co. Detention Center. We phoned SPD, but never got a response. It scares the hell out of me that person is still running around. I feel like I was victimized too, as the whole experience scared me and makes me afraid all the time.
I think part of the problem is that the college students are parking all over the place in this area. They are irritating the residents who cannot see to even back out of their driveways because of the congestion. When the residents approach the students arguments ensue. The college needs to provide more parking for these students or lower the number of students on campus. restricting the lower classmen from driving doesn't solve the problem. It causes problems such as theses.
All four tires on at least 12 vehicles were slashed. I seriously doubt that college students would stoop to this kind of cowardness. Let's not blame everything that happens in the city on the college students.

I think part of the problem is the homehowners. They are too pompous. Trying to re-educate them doesn't help it just makes things worse. We need more re-education programs. Perhaps the college students could do it?
Teacher Lady, Just transfer that fear to thoughts of that guy eventually meeting up with someone such as myself and the outcome will result in him never hurting anyone else again.
The vandalism that occured recently in Nutters and Coulbourne Woods (mailboxes smashed ) was by local high school kids. Hard to generalise who the perps are this case, but it looks more like robbery attmept in addition to destruction of property.
Unfortunately, this seems to be a time of year when crimes, esepcially in neighborhoods, are on the rise. People in the PA Ave. neighborhood are alerting one another. That neighborhood has a good reputation for working together when things like this happen. Their watchfulness has resulted in the arrest of burglars, car thieves and the like.
Burglars burglarize - Vandals vandalize. Sometimes vandals burglarize but only if the opportunity presents itself. Burglars only damage property as necessary to facilitate entry. This is not the work of professional burglars. This is the work of kids, likely college students who had been drinking. They walk the streets at night coming from parties and do stupid sh*t.
Bike patrol manning a COPP substation would do wonders to catch people who carry out these types of acts as well as deter others from doing it as well.
One evening many years ago another deputy and I, while assigned to bike patrol in the Booth St. area, loaded up our bikes and took them to the Pine Bluff area. We rode for about a half hour and decided to slip back off of the road into the shadows to listen for the sounds of any parties going on. Within 5 minute 4 college students came walking by smoking marijuana. Guess what? 10-95....4 times....cds. Locked 'em all up. That's what I've been saying all along. COPP + substations + quality of life issues + zero tolerance = safer neighborhoods......as longs as it's done BEFORE the area turns into a ghetto. Better make a stand now, citizens, before it's too late. The clock is ticking.

You can only imagine what granddad and his partner were doing to each other in the shadows.
It's called "surveillance" asshole.....it's done all the time. When you begin to learn a little about fourth amendment law, you can engage in conversation about it. When you refer to surveillance as trespassing and peeping tom with no more information than I gave, you show everyone just how friggin' stupid you really are.
