On October 9, 2015 at 11:57 pm Deputies from the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the Applebees in West Ocean City for a report of several people standing on top of a car that was not theirs. Upon arrival Deputies met with the owner of the car, a 2013 Dodge Viper valued around $100,000.00, who advised that someone had seen several people standing on top of his car having their pictures taken. Several other witnesses were detaining two of the individuals who had attempted to flee.
Through investigation Deputies determined a total of 4 people had posed on and around the car and had their picture taken by a friend. The photo was recovered by the Deputies. Sean Digiacoma and Cody Coverdale were arrested and later released on criminal citations for disorderly conduct. The other two pictured individuals were arrested on separate more serious charges for crimes that were discovered during the investigation of this incident.

Case #: 150000944
Location Occurred: 12849 Ocean Gateway, Ocean City
Crime or Violation: DUI/DWI
Accused: Samuel Mark Fazio, 18, of Lewes, DE
Charges Failure to Notify Owner of Unattended Vehicle Damage, Driving Under the Influence, Driving While Impaired.

Narrative:
On Friday, October 09, 2015 at approximately 11:57pm., Deputies responded to The Applebees, 12849 Ocean Gateway, Ocean City for a disturbance. Witnesses stated several individuals were standing on top of a Dodge Viper, valued at approximately $100,000.00 and taking pictures. Through further investigation it was learned that several of the suspects attempted to flee in their own vehicles prior to police arrival. One of the suspect vehicles, a Mitsubishi Eclipse, struck another parked car in the process of attempting to leave. The driver of the Eclipse was identified as Samuel Fazio. The investigating Deputy smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage, and observed Fazio to have slurred speech and unsteady steps. Fazio agreed to field sobriety tests and based on the results was placed under arrest for DUI/DWI. Fazio refused a breath test and was released on his own personal recognizance.

Vandal hits bust of judge who issued Dred Scott ruling

FREDERICK, Md. — Frederick police are investigating the vandalism of a bust honoring the Supreme Court justice who wrote the 1857 Dred Scott decision affirming slavery.

Authorities say the bust of Roger Brooke Taney was found covered in a red paint-like substance Sunday morning.

Frederick Police Sgt. Paul Beliveau told WTOP that police got the call at around 8:15 a.m.

“We were notified by a citizen who was passing by city hall that one of the statues in front of city hall had been defaced. There was paint of some type that had been dumped on it,” Beliveau says.

The paint was still wet when police arrived, suggesting the vandalism occurred overnight, Beliveau tells WTOP.

Wholesale Inventories Rise And Sales Tumble Sending Ratio To "Recession Imminent" Cycle Highs

Wholesale Inventories rose 0.1% MoM (more than expected and the most in 7 months) and Sales dropped 1.0% MoM (notably less than expected and weakest in 7 months) sending the inventory-to-sales ratio to 1.31x - new cycle highs - and flashing the brightest recession warning yet. With inventories up 4.2% YoY and Sales down 4.5% YoY, the stunning reality is the absolute dollar spread between inventories and sales has never been bigger.

Inventories keep rising more than expected and sales keep missing...

Dozens of Legal Experts Urge Resistance to Marriage Ruling

Decision authorizing 'gay weddings' 'must be judged anti-constitutional and illegitimate'

Dozens of top legal scholars from the likes of Washington & Lee, Boston College, Kansas State, Notre Dame, University of Texas, Villanova, Vanderbilt, Hillsdale, University of Nebraska, Catholic University and Regent University have issued a statement encouraging all state and federal officials to treat the Supreme Court’s recent creation of “same-sex marriage” as “anti-constitutional and illegitimate.”

“It cannot … be taken to have settled the law of the United States,” said the statement by the American Principles Project.

“We call on all federal and state officeholders: To refuse to accept Obergefell as binding precedent for all but the specific plaintiffs in that case. To recognize the authority of states to define marriage, and the right of federal and state officeholders to act in accordance with those definitions. To pledge full and mutual legal and political assistance to anyone who refuses to follow Obergefell for constitutionally protected reasons. To open forthwith a broad and honest conversation on the means by which Americans may constitutionally resist and overturn the judicial usurpations evidence in Obergefell.”

Robert George, founder of the project and the McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence at Princeton, said: “We stand with James Madison and Abraham Lincoln in recognizing that the Constitution is not whatever a majority of Supreme Court justices say it is. We remind all officeholders in the United States that they are pledged to uphold the Constitution of the United States, not the will of five members of the Supreme Court.”

O'Malley Severs Ties With Volunteer Charged With Child Porn

Democratic presidential candidate Martin O'Malley's campaign has "severed all ties" with a campaign volunteer in Virginia following the supporter's arrest on felony child pornography charges.

The Pamunkey Regional Jail in Hanover confirmed Saturday that Michael C. Teegarden was being held without bail on charges related to the online trading of child pornography. It was not clear if the 51-year-old Teegarden had an attorney.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch first reported his arrested Thursday in Hanover County. The newspaper said he was O'Malley's Virginia campaign chairman.

Atheists Are Really Sad Because People Keep Vandalizing Their Adopt-A-Highway Sign, You Guys

The Adopt-A-Highway sign heralding a stretch of road occasionally cleaned by a California atheist group has been defaced for a second time in the last three weeks.

The most recent act of vandalism to the sign sponsored by Atheists United San Luis Obispo occurred last week. An unknown perpetrator sawed the sign off its posts and painted over the first letter and the last letters of “Atheists.”

Thus, after the vandalism, the all-caps word “ATHEISTS” was transformed to “THEIST.”

ACLU Unleashes Another Blast At Kim Davis

'Plaintiffs looking to stir up controversy, perhaps to drive-up their own attorneys' fees'

A legal team defending Rowan County, Kentucky, Clerk Kim Davis’ refusal to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples in violation of her faith is countering another offensive against her by the ACLU.

The ACLU now wants to make the case a class-action suit, a move that would be appropriate in cases in which the plaintiffs’ needs were met, but the needs of others, similarly situated but not party to the case, had not be met.

But that’s not the situation in the Davis case, according to a new court filing by Liberty Counsel, which has been working with the clerk.

“From the outset of this case, Davis has consistently argued that there were multiple alternatives by which her sincerely held religious beliefs could be accommodated, without being burdened, while simultaneously allowing individuals to obtain valid marriage licenses in Rowan County. One of those proposed solutions is now in place, with the approval and authorization of the Kentucky governor, and this current status quo also embodies the reasonable steps and good faith efforts taken by Davis to comply with this court’s orders without violating her conscience,” Liberty Counsel said.

“But, unsatisfied with the status quo, plaintiffs are apparently looking to stir up controversy where it does not exist, perhaps to drive-up their own attorneys’ fees in this litigation,” Liberty Counsel wrote.

Newly-uncovered Letters From Kim Davis Could Change The Entire Story

Anticipating a Supreme Court ruling in favor of same-sex marriage, Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis wrote Kentucky state lawmakers early in 2015 requesting they exempt country clerks who had religious objections from being required to issue same-sex marriage licenses.

Davis sent the letters about two weeks after she took office in January VICE News reports. In the letter (which VICE obtained through an open records request), she noted that county clerks could be exempted from issuing hunting and fishing licences under Kentucky law, and she asked that legislators allow her to “have the option, as a person who has deep moral convictions to choose not to discriminate any party, by applying for an exemption for the issuance of a marriage license.”

“I can not ask my deputies to issue or be a party to ‘the implementation of a contentious societal philosophy change’ (per Florida clerk with same views) if I myself would not,” the 49-year-old explained. “I know the deadline is close for presentation of bills on the floor, but in light of the Supreme Court’s decision to look at this in April, I feel it imparitive [sic] that we be ready to stand with our uncompromising convictions, holding strong to our morals.”

“As a constitutional officer elected by the people I personally feel the Commonwealth’s Constitution should be upheld… "

The Pain of Transgender Regret

At the age of 42, Walt Heyer was married and had two children. But he had felt for years that he was stuck in the wrong gender. So he fully transitioned and emerged as Laura Jensen. After living as a woman for eight years, he realised that he had made a terrible mistake. Now he has de-transitioned back to his birth gender and provides encouragement to people who regret their gender change.

MercatorNet: Bruce – now Caitlin – Jenner seems perfectly happy with his gender change. Doesn’t his experience prove that a gender change is possible?

Walt Heyer: I was also "perfectly happy" with my gender change for about eight years. No one knows if Jenner will remain happy. It has been only a few months and he has had great financial benefit. When the cameras are no longer rolling and reality sets in, things could change very quickly for Jenner.

MercatorNet: You have been very harshly criticised for your “transphobia” in the media. Does that trouble you?

Walt Heyer: Name calling is hardly a good argument. When people call me names it says much more about them than it does me. The goal of the activists is to silence anyone who disagrees with their agenda.

MercatorNet: Why don’t we hear much about people who have “de-transitioned”, like yourself?

Walt Heyer: There is an important reason. They are so ashamed and devastated about their mistake that they do not want to come forward.

How 'ObamaTrade' Will Drive Up The Cost Of Medicine Worldwide

After nearly eight years of negotiations, the United States and 11 other countries have finally reached consensus on the Trans-Pacific Partnership, one of the largest trade deals in a generation that'll involve nearly half the world's GDP.
The sprawling deal would affect a variety of issues, including tariffs, labor rights, and international investment. But the deal's most controversial provisions are the ones limiting competition in the pharmaceutical industry. According to Doctors Without Borders, "The TPP will still go down in history as the worst trade agreement for access to medicines in developing countries."
Though the final text of the agreement won't be available for at least another month, here's what we know so far.

The TPP will drive up costs for some of the most expensive drugs on the market in the poorest countries

One of the biggest sticking points in the negotiations had to do with data protection for biologic drugs.

Insurance Dropouts Present a Challenge for Health Law

YAZOO CITY, Miss. — Stephanie Douglas signed up for health insurance in January with the best intentions. She had suffered a stroke and needed help paying for her medicines and care. The plan she chose from the federal insurance exchange sounded affordable — $58.17 a month after the subsidy she received under the Affordable Care Act.

But Ms. Douglas, 50, who was working about 30 hours a week as a dollar store cashier and a services coordinator at an apartment complex for older adults, soon realized that her insurance did not fit in her tight monthly budget. She stopped paying her premiums in April and lost her coverage a few months later.

“When you owe on your house, on your truck, when you’re a single parent of a college student and you have other bills,” she said, “it just doesn’t work.”

Ben Carson Calls Out The Press

Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson admonished the Washington press corps Friday, calling the news media “embarrassing” and “insincere” and vowing to “expose” the institutional bias he says runs rampant.

Speaking at a gathering of reporters and communications professionals at the National Press Club in Washington, Carson lashed out at the press, citing several instances where he believes his views have been misrepresented.

“Many in the press will say I’m sensitive and that I should not be thinking about running for office, because I get offended by what they do,” he said. “But the reason I expose the press is because I want the people of America to understand what they’re doing. It’s not because I’m sensitive.”

The retired neurosurgeon said he has no intention of calling a truce with the news media.

“I will continue to expose them every time they do something, so that as more people understand what they are and what they’re doing, it will negate their effect,” he said. “Until they have the kind of transformation that’s necessary for them to become allies of the people, we have to know what they’re doing.”

EPA Spends Millions On Military-style Weapons

The Environmental Protection Agency has spent millions of dollars over the last decade on military-style weapons to arm its 200 “special agents” to fight environmental crime.

Among the weapons purchased are guns, body armor, camouflage equipment, unmanned aircraft, amphibious assault ships, radar and night-vision gear and other military-style weaponry and surveillance activities, according to a new report by the watchdog group Open the Books.

“Protecting the environment just got real. With millions of dollars spent on military style weaponry, the EPA is now literally ensconced with all institutional force,” said Adam Andrzejewski, founder of Open the Books and the author of the report.

“Our report discovered that when the EPA comes knocking they are armed with a thousand lawyers, arrest/criminal data, credit, business and property histories, plus a ‘Special Agent’ with the latest in weaponry and technology,” Mr. Andrzejewski added.

The agency spends nearly $75 million each year for criminal enforcement, including money for a small militia of 200 “special agents” charged with fighting environmental crime.

Congress granted police powers to the EPA in 1988, during the Reagan administration.

Cubans Retire to Florida – With Help From U.S. Taxpayers

More Cubans are coming to Florida in their golden years to retire, able to tap U.S. government assistance even though they never lived or worked here.

The number of Cubans arriving over the age of 60 grew fivefold since 2010, according to state refugee data. At least 185 made the crossing in their 80s or 90s.

Unlike most other immigrants, Cubans qualify immediately for food stamps and Medicaid. If they are over 65 with little or no income, they also can collect a monthly check of up to $733 in Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Cubans’ special status has enabled an increasing number of elderly to retire to the U.S. with taxpayer support. The number of Cubans immigrating after age 60 and eligible for refugee assistance in Florida has increased fivefold since 2010.

“They’re getting cheap apartments, food stamps,” said Cuban-born attorney Pedro Fuentes-Cid of Tampa. “They tell their friends in Cuba, and they come over.”

The United States makes it possible under a humanitarian policy of treating Cubans who arrive as refugees. Elderly immigrants interviewed by the Sun Sentinel said they came primarily to be with family, met the aid qualifications and are grateful for the help.

AG Frosh: Maryland Helps States and Federal Government Recoup $9.25 Million in Prescription Drug Medicaid Fraud Scheme PharMerica Corp

AG Frosh: Maryland Helps States and Federal Government Recoup $9.25 Million in Prescription Drug Medicaid Fraud Scheme PharMerica Corp. Pays To Settle Kickback Charges

Baltimore, MD -Attorney General Brian E. Frosh announced today that Maryland has joined with other states and the federal government to settle kickback allegations against the nation's second-largest institutional pharmacy, PharMerica Corp.

The allegations stem from a scheme involving drug manufacturer Abbott Laboratories and its anti-seizure drug, Depakote. The states and federal government claim that PharMerica solicited and received illegal compensation from Abbott, in exchange for promoting or purchasing Depakote, frequently for "off-label" uses and in improper dosages. The payments were in violation of the federal Anti-Kickback Statute, and, as a result, the states contend that PharMerica knowingly caused false claims to be submitted to federal and state Medicaid programs.

"This case started because whistle-blowers did the right thing and shined a light on a disturbing scheme that exploited vulnerable patients," said Attorney General Frosh. "Putting profits ahead of patient needs is unacceptable."

Ben Carson Insists Holocaust Comments 'Not Hyperbole at All'

Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson is sticking to his guns.

Appearing on CBS's Face the Nation Sunday, Carson defended his assertion that if more people had been armed leading up to and during World War II, Adolf Hitler may not have been able to carry out the mass murder of Jews in Europe on such a large scale.

"It's not hyperbole at all," Carson said, appearing Sunday on CBS's Face The Nation. "Whether it’s on our doorstep or whether it’s 50 years away, it's still a concern and it’s something that we must guard against. That’s one of the real purposes of having a constitution. I think the founders were really quite insightful into looking at possibilities and understanding what has happened in other places and trying to put together something that would prevent that from happening here."

Carson on Thursday told CNN's Wolf Blitzer that the Holocaust may not have been as deadly if more Jews had had guns.

"I think the likelihood of Hitler being able to accomplish his goals would have been greatly diminished if the people had been armed," he said. "I'm telling you there is a reason these dictatorial people take the guns first."

Top LE Official: Terrorists Have Infiltrated U.S. Through Mexico

A few days ago a top law enforcement official finally confirmed that Islamic terrorists have infiltrated the United States through Mexico, a story that Judicial Watch broke last year as part of an ongoing series involving the dangerously porous southern border.

Last October JW reported that four members of the militant group Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS), who entered the U.S. through the Mexican border, were arrested in McAllen and Pharr Texas. Then, over the summer, JW reported that Mexican drug cartels are smuggling foreigners from countries with terrorist links into a small Texas rural town near El Paso and they’re using remote farm roads—rather than interstates—to elude the Border Patrol and other law enforcement barriers. The information comes from sources on both sides of the Mexico-U.S. border who say the Special Interest Aliens (SIA) are being transported to stash areas in Acala, a rural crossroads located around 54 miles from El Paso on a state road – Highway 20.

Prior to that JW published a series of investigative articles citing high-level federal law enforcement, intelligence and other sources certifying that Islamic terrorist groups are operating in at least two Mexican border towns. In August, 2014 ISIS planned to attack the U.S. with car bombs or other vehicle borne improvised explosive devices (VBIED) from a camp in the Mexican border city of Ciudad Juarez. Agents across a number of Homeland Security, Justice and Defense agencies were all placed on alert and instructed to aggressively work all possible leads and sources concerning the terrorist threat.

This past spring JW sources that include a Mexican Army field grade officer and a Mexican Federal Police inspector disclosed that ISIS is actually operating a camp just a few miles from El Paso.

Ban Gun-free Zones

Would you put a sign outside your house saying, “Doors unlocked,” or “We’re not home”?

An under-reported study released a year ago by the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC), the organization led by America’s leading gun policy expert John Lott, found that 92 percent of mass shootings since 2009 have taken place in designated gun-free zones.

Or, as CPRC puts it, “Since 2009, only 8 percent of mass public shootings have occurred where civilians are allowed to defend themselves.”

“Gun-free” zones are purported to forestall gun violence, but in practice they attract deranged gunmen like porch lights attract moths. Why? Because deranged gunmen are crazy, not stupid. An identified gun-free zone literally advertises the ideal environment for committing mass murder.

Mass shootings are committed by mentally ill people to achieve a form of immortality, or by political zealots to terrorize the public. They know the more they kill, the more publicity they’ll get. They also know the only way they will be stopped is by a good guy with a gun, so they choose to attack in places where they know nobody else will be armed.

Most mass shootings don’t end until the police arrive. Killers typically have several minutes to slaughter as many victims as they can without fear of interference.

Columbus Day: Unfortunate facts about the explorer

In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue — but he certainly wasn't the first.

Christopher Columbus is nationally celebrated on the second Monday of October for supposedly discovering America.

However, he was not the first European to discover America — most believe it was Viking Leif Eriksson.

Eriksson is said to have discovered America nearly five centuries prior to Columbus' visit, according to the History Channel.

And millions of people lived in the Americas before any Europeans arrived.

O’Malley slams Clinton on trade

Democratic presidential candidate Martin O'Malley criticized front-runner Hillary Clinton for opposing President Obama's international trade agreement "on the eve of the first Democratic debate."

O'Malley, a former Maryland governor, said on CNN's "State of the Union" that he has opposed the plan -- which is panned by liberal labor groups -- for eight months, citing concerns about worker protections.

"I didn't shift positions right on the eve of the first Democratic debate," O'Malley said on CNN, alluding to Clinton, who came out against the plan last week.

Oregon 8th-grader suspended from school for wearing patriotic shirt showing gun

Alan Holmes, an eighth-grade student in Gresham, Ore., still remembers the day his older brother returned home after serving in Iraq with the Marines.

“I was proud of him,” Holmes told ABC affiliate KATU. “I remember the day he came home and I was just so happy. I was little but I still remember it, he made me happy.”

As he got older, Holmes’s pride turned into patriotism. He wanted to demonstrate that patriotism last week by wearing a T-shirt to school that included a design memorializing fallen soldiers and bearing the words “Standing for those who stood for us,” according to KATU. Instead, the image on his shirt — boots, a helmet and a gun — got him suspended, the station reported.

Officials at Dexter McCarty Middle School asked Holmes to change his shirt, according to Fox affiliate KPTV. When he refused, the station reported, he was given an ultimatum: remove the shirt or face suspension.

Brain Trauma Widespread Among High School Football Players

Football is a dangerous sport. Even with the best protective gear, sprained knees, pulled muscles and an occasional broken bone are part of the game. But seven years of research into the impact of head trauma in high school players points to new dangers that parents will find extremely alarming.

"We are seeing changes in brain activity even without a diagnosed concussion, even without any sign or symptoms showing up and that that occurs in a large population of our subjects," said Larry Leverenz, a clinical professor of health and kinesiology at Purdue University.

More than half of the players participating in the trials showed signs of altered neurological function and dramatic changes to the wiring and biochemistry of their brains, according to a series of studies published by the Purdue Neurotrauma Group.

Is Monsanto's Excitement About GMOs Backfiring?

Pity Monsanto, the genetically modified seed and agri-chemical giant. Its share price has plunged 25 percent since the spring. Market prices for corn and soybeans are in the dumps, meaning Monsanto's main customers—farmers who specialize in those crops—have less money to spend on its pricey seeds and flagship herbicide (which recently got named a "probable carcinogen" by the World Health Organization, spurring lawsuits).

Monsanto's long, noisy attempt to buy up rival pesticide giant Syngenta crumbled into dust last month. And Wednesday, Monsanto reported quarterly revenues and profits that sharply underperformed Wall Street expectations. For good measure, it also sharply lowered its profit projections for the year ahead.

In response to these unhappy trends, the company announced it was slashing 2,600 jobs, 12 percent of its workforce, and spending $3 billion to buy back shares. Share buybacks are a form of financial (as opposed to genetic) engineering—they magically boost a company's earnings-per-share ratio (a metric closely watched by investors) simply by removing shares from the market. And buybacks divert money from things like R&D—or keeping a company's workforce whole—and into the pockets of shareholders.

In a conference call with investors (transcript), Monsanto CEO Hugh Grant put a positive spin on the company's prospects...

Troopers Investigate Crash South of Georgetown

Georgetown, DE – Troopers are investigating a single vehicle crash southwest of Georgetown that seriously injured an infant.

The incident occurred around 9:38 a.m. Sunday October 11, 2015 as Laura Cruz, 19 of Bridgeville, was operating a 2005 Nissan Sentra westbound on Shiloh Church Road just east of Scott Land Road. The Sentra drifted into the eastbound lane and upon overcorrecting to the right, the car drove off the north side of the roadway were it struck a tree. The Nissan continued in a westerly direction and overturned and struck a fence before coming to a stop on its side.

Laura Cruz, who was not properly restrained and not ejected, was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Cruz's three month old son, who was seated in a car seat, but not properly restrained in the car seat and not properly affixed to the car, was ejected from the automobile upon it rolling over. He was airlifted by Delaware State Police Aviation (Trooper 2) to A.I. DuPont Children's Hospital where he was admitted in stable condition.

EXMORE, Va. (WAVY) — Firefighters battled two suspicious fires for more than an hour late Friday night, and continued putting out hot spots at one of them Saturday morning, according to fire officials.

Virginia State Police are now investigating the fire at Tankard Nurseries, as well as another fire at a home about a quarter of a mile away, according to Community Fire Company Chief Greg DeYoung.

The Community Fire Company out of Exmore responded to a call about a residential fire just after 10:00 p.m. The first crews to arrive at Tankard Nurseries saw a storage building collapsed and fully engulfed in flames, according to DeYoung.

Within ten minutes, firefighters got a call about another fire at a home a few blocks away from the nursery and also on Bayside Road.

“Both fires appear to be suspicious in nature, and they’re being investigated,” said DeYoung.

340 sanctuaries release 9,295 criminals

The number of jurisdictions that are obstructing immigration enforcement has grown to roughly 340, according to the Department of Homeland Security.1 This has resulted in the release by local authorities of approximately 1,000 criminal aliens per month.

According to an updated report prepared by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for Congress, between January 1 and September 30, 2014, local sanctuaries released 9,295 alien offenders that ICE was seeking to deport. More than 600 people were released at least twice.

Out of these, 5,947 of the criminal aliens (62 percent) had significant prior criminal histories or other public safety concerns even before the arrest that led to a detainer. Fifty-eight percent of those with a prior history of concern had prior felony charges or convictions; 37 percent had serious prior misdemeanor charges, and 5 percent had multiple prior misdemeanors.

Four Heroin Overdoses In Wicomico County This Past Weekend

11 years ago Salisbury News was created. We were considered the "Anti Christ" of media because we elected to tell the news in such a way we simply published information YOU were not getting from your local media.

One of the major topics we published, (factual and documented) was all the crime in Salisbury. The next thing I knew I was being sued by the Chief of Police as well as the local Warden and Mayor of Salisbury.

The attempt was to defame Joe Albero in any way they could in the hope this Blog would backfire and no one would trust what we were publishing.

In other words, they did NOT want the public to know the TRUTH. Fortunately we won in all cases and get this, we became the #1 most influential political website in Maryland and Delaware.

All that being said, while we ALL know there's a serious heroin problem here on the Shore, 1st responder's are NOT letting the public know just how bad it is. Don't believe me, just go to ALL of the calls for service for anyone you so choose and all you will see is "medical condition".

I'm not sure if you agree but I personally feel the calls for service SHOULD state, "HEROIN OVERDOSE" so the public can have a much better idea just how bad it is out there. There were FOUR overdoses, two in Salisbury and two in Pittsville this weekend. These are cases in which our people actually heard the calls on the scanner stating they were overdoses, so there could have been much more, we don't know.

With all due respect, 1st responder's work for you and me, TAXPAYERS. It is NOT a HIPPA violation to state an overdose as long as they don't publish a name. Of course ALL 1st responder's, (including police) do not want the public to know just how bad heroin is here on the Shore and I believe it's high time, (pardon the pun) we see first hand just how bad the drugs and abuse are here.

It's OK for them to publish SHOPLIFTERS and DUI arrests, why not illegal drug use and overdoses?

Exposed rebar on Rt. 50 bridge poses no threat

Hunks of concrete are falling off the Route 50 bridge, but it isn’t as bad as it sounds, according to the State Highway Administration.

The SHA will be performing maintenance next week, on Oct. 13 and 14, to address what is known as “spalling” of the bridge’s concrete structure, a phenomenon that has caused concern amongst some boaters.

The right-hand eastbound lane will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days to complete the process.

Mayor seeks $150M from Md. in response to Hogan's pledge to help Baltimore

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has sent a letter to Gov. Larry Hogan seeking $150 million in state aid over the next five years after the governor penned an opinion piece in The Sun saying he wanted to help Baltimore.

"Today I wrote to put forth a partnership proposal based not only on my experiences of successes and challenges running the City; but more importantly, based on the first-hand knowledge of what my City needs right now," the mayor wrote. The $150 million in state aid would be dedicated to workforce training and re-entry services; economic and community development; public transportation; health; and recreation and parks, said Rawlings-Blake, a Democrat.

Last month, Hogan, a Republican, wrote an opinion piece for The Sun entitled "The Economic Engine of Maryland." In it, he pledged to announce a "series of innovative ideas that have the potential to deliver real change" for Baltimore by demolishing vacant properties, stimulating job growth and improving transportation and education.

Governor Larry Hogan Establishes Governor’s Office of Performance Improvement

Headed by Luis A. Luna, GOPI Will Develop Recommendations to Make State Government More Responsive and Efficient

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Larry Hogan today announced the formation of the Governor’s Office of Performance Improvement (GOPI), a new unit within the administration that will develop strategies to ensure that state agencies are more efficient and provide the very best customer service. The establishment of GOPI through Executive Order 1.1.2015.26 marks an important step in the Hogan administration’s commitment to ensure that state government is focused on delivering outstanding service to the people of Maryland, while also reducing waste and excessive bureaucracy. Luis A. Luna has been named the director of the Governor’s Office of Performance Improvement.

GOPI will work to continuously improve Maryland state government by using performance metrics to determine how efficiently and effectively state agencies deliver their services. GOPI will create clear metrics, collect data, and conduct analysis on agency performance to ensure that state government is as productive, accountable, and transparent as possible.

“Every single agency in Maryland government must be focused on delivering outstanding service to the people of the state, while keeping a close eye on how every single taxpayer dollar gets spent,” Governor Larry Hogan said. “Duplication of services, waste of taxpayer dollars, and never-ending bureaucracy are what people so often resent in government agencies. It will be GOPI’s job to track progress in these areas across state government and make recommendations on how agencies can make improvements over time, and I am excited to have Luis on board to help drive change.”

“It’s an honor to be selected by Governor Hogan to lead GOPI,” Luna said. “The Hogan administration has already made great strides in improving customer service and ensuring that agencies are working more efficiently. I look forward to working closely with the agencies to continue to drive improvements in state government.”

Luis A. Luna brings management experience from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. He has held many leadership roles in federal government, including as assistant administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and as deputy administrator of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Program, heading its Office of Community Development. He has also been vice president of corporate communications for Perdue Farms. A Salisbury resident, he has served as the executive director of the Greater Salisbury Committee, a nonprofit that finds solutions for regional challenges on the Delmarva Peninsula, as well as CEO of Lower Shore Enterprises, which provides employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

23 snow plows reported missing from Glen Burnie yard

Twenty-three snow plows, which would cost about $69,000 new, went missing earlier this year from a maintenance yard in Glen Burnie, State Highway Administration officials said.

The disappearance of the 10-foot-wide plows, each consisting of a blade and hitch frame, was first noted June 25 and the SHA contacted Maryland State Police, who continue to investigate, said David Coyne, deputy administrator and chief of operations for the highway agency.

"The value (of the plows) purchased new — and these weren't new — would be about $3000 each," Coyne said.

Police were told the plows had been placed in maintenance facility at 910 Stewart Ave. in the spring, State Police spokesman Gregory Shipley said in an email. Police haven't established if a theft occurred.

Verizon to add $20 to grandfathered unlimited data plans

If you're still clinging to your Verizon unlimited cell phone plan, your monthly bill is about to jump by $20.

Verizon is planning to raise the price of unlimited data plans from $29.99 to $49.99 per month. The company confirmed the move to CNNMoney on Thursday morning.

It's yet another sign the company's trying to force people to let go of their highly-prized plans that remain only because they were grandfathered in.

The unlimited data is only part of a cell phone bill. Talking and texting are extra. Right now if you're on Verizon's 450 plan, that costs $59.99 per month. Add the new higher rate for unlimited data, the total monthly cost will look more like $109.99, plus fees.

Ocean City Issued Three Fines For Smoking Violations In New Restrictions’ First Season

OCEAN CITY — Ocean City’s first summer with heightened smoking restrictions yielded three citations, totaling $150 in fines.

Public Affairs Specialist Lindsey Richard of the Ocean City Police Department added that there were 297 calls for service in regards to smoking violations since May 1, but the department didn’t keep a tab on written warnings because they didn’t write any.

Yet, according to city Council member and Tourism Commission Chair Mary Knight, that lack of a hammer when enforcing the new smoking restrictions shouldn’t be much of a surprise.

“We wanted the first year to be an educational year for our visitors,” said Knight. “It’s like the mayor says, we have 300,000 new people each week to educate so we had the police officers handing out little cards on the first infraction that explained to people what the change in the law was. We never intended to be heavy handed this year.”

Daily Times Online Obituaries - Not Local Anymore!

Even Obituaries Aren't Local Anymore at the Daily Times!

In another step of stabbing its local community, look what now happens when you go to The Daily Times online edition & click "Obituaries" on DelmarvaNow.com:

It connects you to Legacy.com, and you have to "Find Your Newspaper" among St. Louis, Boston, Chicago, Baltimore, Rochester, Salt Lake City and more, before you can even see who died in your own community! This is a recent change and probably saves them tons of money, even though the Daily Times charges families hundreds of dollars to "print" an obituary.

Another slow step in the Daily Times demise! Even the online edition is pretty useless! Why bother with them at all!

Police: Man Chokes Clerk, Smashes Display Cases After Returning Engagement Ring

An enraged man assaulted an employee and smashed glass display cases after returning an engagement ring to the Kay Jewelers store at the Pentagon City mall this morning, according to police.

Arlington County officers responded to the store just after 11:35 a.m., after receiving a frantic 911 call about an assault in progress.

Police say a homeless man, 34-year-old Monbain Brown, had earlier in the day returned a $4,000 engagement ring after having a change of heart about the purchase. He returned shortly thereafter and “engaged in a verbal altercation with one of the workers behind the display case because the money had not showed up in his account yet,” according to ACPD spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.

Brown became increasingly agitated during the argument before jumping the counter and beginning to strangle the female employee, Sternbeck said.

The Daily Times Tries To Intimidate Sheriff Lewis In Acquitted Jury Intimidation Case Today

Back in June we published a press release from the Sheriff's Office where Valerie Rovin was arrested and charged with "intimidating a Juror".

Today Valerie Rovin had her day in court and was acquitted of the charges, based on a technicality in state law.

Did Valerie go to the Juror's place of business and intimidate the Juror, yes. One would think that based on the history of law, one thing you cannot do is tamper with a Juror, WRONG. In Maryland, that is.

Now, if this were a Federal case, Valerie Rovin would more than likely be sitting in a jail cell. However, under Maryland law, even though this particular Juror was asked to serve for a month, he was released as a Juror once this threat had happened and technically he was no longer a Juror.

The Judge actually made a legitimate judgment in this case based on the law at hand. Valerie Rovin's attorney certainly did a fine job finding and presenting this flaw in the law and today Valerie Rovin was acquitted of the charges.

All that being said, today, (on line) the Daily Times went after Sheriff Mike Lewis pretty much attacking him for the statement he made several months ago. Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis told The Daily Times in June that this case was probably the "most egregious" incident of juror intimidation that he's seen during his time in office.

This is the problem with LIBERAL YELLOW JOURNALISM. Their reporter was right there in the court room. WHY would the Daily Times make it sound as if Sheriff Mike Lewis was ever in the wrong for what he was quoted as saying and or arresting someone who absolutely threatened a Juror. It was the most egregious incident he had ever seen.

The paper goes on and on explaining, was what Valerie in the wrong for what she did, YES. Was she sorry for what she did, YES. It seems to be the Daily Times will say just about anything to sell papers. I'm sure their hope is to piss off Sheriff Lewis so he'll respond to their ridiculous statements.

One thing is for sure. States Attorney Matt Maciarello has been in high gear for about a month now working with state legislators making damn sure the flaw in this law protecting Jurors is covered and hopefully changed in this upcoming legislative session.

Matt and Mike are very passionate about making sure ALL Jurors are fully protected so this will never happen again. The Federal Law clearly protects Jurors to a much higher level and that is what they are shooting for.

The Daily Times, (in my honest opinion) did a horrible job in their article today. How can they act like they are journalists when they can't even tell the story right. People need to stop buying that rag because their reporters are crap.

Oh, that's right. Maciarello and Lewis are registered REPUBLICANS. What was I thinking.

Ivy League Prof Tweets That Ben Carson Should Win ‘Coon Of The Year’

An Ivy League professor said that Ben Carson should win the "coon of the year" after the 2016 hopeful supported allowing Confederate flags at NASCAR events.

In a tweet sent out last Tuesday, University of Pennsylvania religious studies professor Anthea Butler, wrote "If only there was a 'coon of the year' award ..." when responding to Daily Beast editor-at-large Goldie Taylor's tweet containing a link to a Sports Illustrated article on the issue.

"Swastikas are a symbol of hate for some people too … and yet they still exist in our museums and places like that," Carson said during an event with Richard Petty in North Carolina last Monday. "If it's a majority of people in that area who want it to fly, I certainly wouldn't take it down."

Black Lives Matter asks state Dems for 'reparations'

Will Black Lives Matter revive the debate over reparations?

The case for reparations is typically made as a form of economic compensation to descendants of slaves. These days, some racial activists also make the case for reparations as compensation for systemic discrimination in law enforcement.

Several black leaders addressed Democratic state legislators Friday at the State Innovation Exchange in Washington, D.C.

"Thinking about decriminalization with reparations," Marbre Shahly-Butts, deputy director of racial justice at the Center for Popular Democracy, said. "The idea is we that have extracted literally millions of dollars from communities, we have destroyed families. Mass incarceration has led to the destruction of communities across the country. We can track which communities, like we have that data. And so if we're going to be decriminalizing things like marijuana, all of the profit from that should go back to the folks we've extracted it from." That comment received widespread applause from the crowd of Democratic state legislators. Shahly-Butts was referring to decriminalizing more than drug crimes, but also loitering, bans on saggy pants and thousands of other laws that disproportionately affect blacks.

Apparently Drunk College Student Berates Staff, Demands Mac ‘n Cheese — but It Isn’t Until He Shoves Manager That Karma Strikes

An apparently drunk college student belligerently demanded macaroni and cheese from his school cafeteria. In a nine-minute viral video, he was not only denied service but was eventually tackled to the floor after becoming physically violent. In the end, he was taken out of the student union in handcuffs.

“Just give me some f***ing bacon jalapeño mac ‘n cheese,” the kid, identified as Luke Gatti in police reports as noted by the Hartford Courant, said to a man who appeared to be a manager at the University of Connecticut student union.

“I just denied you service. You can’t come in here with an open bottle of booze, dude, think about it,” the manager said, tapping his head. “Think!”

Franklin Graham Gave a CHILLING Warning For Our Country

If we as a country turn our back on God’s teachings, then what will happen? According to Franklin Graham, Obama has led the country in celebrating sin, and we’re experiencing a moral decline because of it.

Evangelist Franklin Graham said that both he and his father, famed preacher Billy Graham, are most concerned about the “moral decline” that they see in American culture, accusing the Obama administration of “celebrating sin” in a recent interview with The Church Boys podcast.

“Our country has changed so much, and we’ve seen the moral decline — and that moral decline being led by the Obama administration, and championing things like same-sex marriage, which is really defiance against God,” Graham said. “Same-sex marriage is a sin against God. God made us male and female.”

The evangelist, who was in New York to discuss his father Billy Graham’s new book, “Where I Am: Heaven, Eternity, and Our Life Beyond,” then reiterated his belief that President Barack Obama’s administration has been facilitating and holding up “sin.”

“And then to say that marriage is between two men or two women, this is sin and the Obama administration is celebrating sin and they are pushing sin,” he continued.

Cardin Calls on Mikulski and Appropriations Committee Leadership for Immediate, Emergency Funding to Increase U.S. Humanitarian Support for Syria, Capacity for Refugee Admissions

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today, with fellow committee members Senators Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Chris Coons (D-Del.) and Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), along with 18 other senators called on U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) and Vice Chairwoman Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), as well as U.S. Senate Foreign Relations State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Subcommittee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Ranking Member Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) to immediately consider emergency funding to provide humanitarian relief to Syrian refugees and to increase the capacity for refugee admissions to the United States. In a letter to the committee leadership, the senators emphasized that organizations aiding Syrian refugees are on the verge of running out of money, and that if the United States and our partners fail to fill funding gaps, refugee families will lose access to basic services like food and shelter. The senators also highlighted the United States’ historical role as a beacon of hope for those fleeing persecution and violence, and – provided there are extensive background checks and vetting processes – called on the United States to welcome additional Syrian refugees to our nation.

U.S. Senators Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Al Franken (D-Minn.), Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Jack Reed (D-R.I.), Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) also signed the letter.

“We urge the Appropriations Committee to immediately consider emergency funding for a two-pronged strategy to provide immediate humanitarian relief and increase the capacity for refugee admissions to the United States. Organizations aiding Syrian refugees are working around the clock to provide food, shelter, medical care and education to refugee families, but these basic services are at dire risk unless the United States and our partners fill the funding gaps. Second, we must support funding to significantly increase the number of refugees screened and admitted into the United States. We welcomed approximately 200,000 refugees during the Balkan Wars, 700,000 refugees from Cuba, and more than 700,000 refugees from Vietnam. Compared with these historic numbers, we can do better than 10,000 slots for Syrian families. We cannot simply sit on the sidelines as this humanitarian disaster continues to unfold,” the senators wrote.
