Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin said on Sunday she thinks it would be a “nice gesture” for President Obama to speak out about the tragic murder of Australian student Chris Lane.
“What do you make of the silence of people like Al Sharpton, and, quite frankly, the silence of the president?” Chris Wallace, host of Fox News Sunday, asked Fallin.
“I don’t know what to think about that,” Fallin replied. “It would be nice if our nation were to certainly express their condolences.”

Nothing Stopped VA's Fat Bonuses, Not Even Dead Vets, Dirty Hospitals
Documents obtained by the Washington Examiner show six top administrators of the Veterans Health Administration received performance bonuses in excess of $16,000 last year.
In all, the top VA executives and medical professionals received more than $3.3 million in bonuses that are supposed to reward exceptional work. The figure does not include rank-and-file employees or other financial incentives not tied to job performance.

In light of the recent appeals court ruling in California , with respect to the Pledge of Allegiance, the following recollection from Senator John McCain is very appropriate: "The Pledge of Allegiance" - by Senator John McCain As you may know, I spent five and one half years as a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War. In the early years of our imprisonment, the NVA kept us in solitary confinement or two or three to a cell. In 1971 the NVA moved us from these conditions of isolation into large rooms with as many as 30 to 40 men to a room.
This was, as you can imagine, a wonderful change and was a direct result of the efforts of millions of Americans on behalf of a few hundred POWs 10,000 miles from home.
One of the men who moved into my room was a young man named Mike Christian. Mike came from a small town near Selma , Alabama . He didn't wear a pair of shoes until he was 13 years old. At 17, he enlisted in the US Navy. He later earned a commission by going to Officer Training School . Then he became a Naval Flight Officer and was shot down and captured in 1967. Mike had a keen and deep appreciation of the opportunities this country and our military provide for people who want to work and want to succeed.
As part of the change in treatment, the Vietnamese allowed some prisoners to receive packages from home. In some of these packages were handkerchiefs, scarves and other items of clothing. Mike got himself a bamboo needle. Over a period of a couple of months, he created an American flag and sewed it on the inside of his shirt. Every afternoon, before we had a bowl of soup, we would hang Mike's shirt on the wall of the cell and say the Pledge of Allegiance.
I know the Pledge of Allegiance may not seem the most important part of our day now, but I can assure you that in that stark cell it was indeed the most important and meaningful event.
One day the Vietnamese searched our cell, as they did periodically, and discovered Mike's shirt with the flag sewn inside, and removed it.
That evening they returned, opened the door of the cell, and for the benefit of all of us, beat Mike Christian severely for the next couple of hours. Then, they opened the door of the cell and threw him in. We cleaned him up as well as we could.
The cell in which we lived had a concrete slab in the middle on which we slept. Four naked light bulbs hung in each corner of the room.
As I said, we tried to clean up Mike as well as we could. After the excitement died down, I looked in the corner of the room, and sitting there beneath that dim light bulb with a piece of red cloth, another shirt and his bamboo needle, was my friend, Mike Christian. He was sitting there with his eyes almost shut from the beating he had received, making another American flag. He was not making the flag because it made Mike Christian feel better. He was making that flag because he knew how important it was to us to be able to Pledge our allegiance to our flag and country.
So the next time you say the Pledge of Allegiance, you must never forget the sacrifice and courage that thousands of Americans have made to build our nation and promote freedom around the world. You must remember our duty, our honor, and our country.

Ret. Army Sgt. Howard Ray, awarded for saving the lives of 9 people in the Ft. Hood massacre, said it's a "slap in the face" that the 2009 incident is not called terrorism.
"It really is a slap in the face that the Department of Defense called this something other than what it truly is — that is, terrorism," Ray said Monday on "Fox & Friends."
Ray, who is running for the Texas state House, called on the White House to label the shooting rampage an act of terrorism so that the victims can receive appropriate compensation.
"What's important is that government officials, starting at the White House, demand that this be, first of all, classified as it is, terrorism," Ray said.

The ever-expanding role of government in healthcare provides an excellent example of Ludwig Von Mises’ warning that “The Middle of the Road Leads to Socialism.” Beginning in the 1940s, government policies distorted the health care market, causing prices to rise and denying many Americans access to quality care. Congress reacted to the problems caused by their prior interventions with new interventions, such as the HMO Act, ERISA, EMTLA, and various federal entitlement programs. Each new federal intervention not only failed to fix the problems it was supposedly created to solve, it created new problems, leading to calls for even more new federal interventions. This process culminated in 2010, when Congress passed Obamacare.
Contrary to the claims of some of its opponents, Obamacare is not socialized medicine. It is corporatized medicine. After all, the central feature of Obamacare is the mandate that all Americans buy health insurance from private health insurance companies. And, as with previous government interventions in the marketplace, Obamacare is not only failing to correct the problems caused by prior federal laws, it is creating new problems.
Consider the almost weekly stories about how Obamacare is causing health insurance premiums to rise, causing employees to lay off workers or reduce their workers' hours, and causing doctors to leave the profession. Also, consider the problems the administration is already having administering the federal exchanges and other parts of the health care law.

Ratcliffe Foundation Donates $1 Million for Innovative Entrepreneurial Program at SU
SALISBURY, MD---With an eye to bolstering employment, a Baltimore-based foundation has committed $1 million to the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business at Salisbury University for grants and loan guarantees to start new businesses.Over a five-year period, the Philip E. and Carole R. Ratcliffe Foundation will offer as much as $200,000 annually to entrepreneurs looking to create startups. One of the Foundation’s goals: to have new businesses opening within six months with the potential of employing five or more within a year.
Two- and four-year college graduates residing in the Mid-Atlantic region are eligible. This includes all of Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and the District of Columbia. Proposals from New York and New Jersey also will be considered.

8-Year Old Murders His 90-Year Old Grandmother After Playing Grand Theft Auto IV
In Louisiana, on August 22, an 8-year-old boy allegedly shot and killed his 90-year-old grandmother after playing “Grand Theft Auto IV.” The game is rated M, which means it is for ages 17 and older.
No motive was given, but the boy killed the woman right after playing the game. The boy took the family gun and shot Marie Smothers in the head while she was watching television. The child said it was accidental, but evidence led police to think the shooting was intentional. Smothers was the boy’s caregiver. He was released to his parents on Thursday night.

Md. Family Sues Over Frostburg St. Football Death
A wrongful-death lawsuit charges that 22-year-old Derek Sheely, of Germantown, returned to the field despite bleeding from his forehead during four consecutive practice sessions in August 2011. He was never checked for a concussion or to see if his helmet was properly fitted, the lawsuit said.
“One of Derek’s teammates described the demeanor of the practices leading up to Derek’s fatal injury as completely ‘out of control,’” the lawsuit said. “What is more, the word ‘concussion’ is not stated a single time in Frostburg’s team policies. Thus, the coaches treated all injuries — brain injuries and ankle sprains — the same: You were expected to play through them.”

Seaford, DE- The Delaware State Police in cooperation with the United States Secret Service and United States Postal Inspection Service has arrested three people in connection with a "Nigerian Scam."
The investigation began back on February 7, 2013 after detectives with the Financial Crimes Unit out of Troop 4 in Georgetown received information from Marion Police Department in Iowa about some stolen property that had been shipped to an address in Delaware. Detectives then obtained a search warrant of the house located in the 8000 block of Garden Lane and upon execution were unable to locate the property in question. The homeowner was questions about any packages that arrived at the house and informed the investigators that Vinod Singh had met with a FedEx delivery person and signed for the packages earlier that day.
Detectives then responded to a residence on Baker Mill Road in Seaford where Singh actually resides. He was contacted and questioned about the packages and provided information about receiving a phone call about a job opportunity after posting a resume online. His job was to pick up two packages, which contained IPods, IPhones, jewelry, and approximately $15,000.00 in cash, that was to be delivered to an address on Garden Lane and then continue to send them on to another undetermined address, and, at that time, he would receive cash for his services. Singh then conspired with his niece Terretta Lassiter and her boyfriend, Thaddeus Bolden, after bringing the packages to their house, to wire the enclosed money to the employer in Nigeria.
Through the investigation it was also determined that the U.S. Postal Inspection Service had been alerted back in February of 2013 regarding an identity theft and credit card account takeover after Bank of America credit cards were being fraudulently issued to an address in the 8000 block of Garden Lane in Seaford. The suspects would impersonate the card holder, and using stolen information of the account holder request a new card be sent to the Seaford address. Upon receipt of the new card, the suspect, who was later identified as Vinod Singh, would make numerous cash advances at local banks and casinos totaling more than $50,000.00.
Vinod Singh, Terretta L. Lassiter, and Thaddeus E. Bolden were all arrested at Troop 4 on Monday August 26, 2013 upon the conclusion of the joint investigation and released on unsecured bonds.
The homeowner at the Garden Lane address was unaware of any of the illegal acts being conducted and had no involvement in the crimes in any way.

NSA Paid Millions To Google, Yahoo, Microsoft For Surveillance
Top-secret documents obtained by The Guardianreveal the National Security Agency (NSA) paid millions of dollars to Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft to cover costs associated with the agency's PRISM surveillance program.
The revelation is the the first evidence of a financial relationship between the government and Silicon Valley, the newspaper claims.
The government is required to cover compliance costs. Critics say Silicon Valley and the federal government's increasing coziness creates opportunities for collusion and costly cronyism at the expense of taxpayers.

OC Parking Meter Petition Successful: Counsil Votes To Repeal Paid Parking Ordinance
As a result of the paid parking petition officially garnering enough signatures to be placed on the ballot as a referendum, the Ocean City Council voted this afternoon to repeal the recent ordinance that created new parking areas in certain parts of town, such as on 146th Street oceanside. The ordinance will officially be repealed next week at a legislative session, but city officials reported at the meeting that the Cale machines installed earlier this summer at the new areas will be bagged immediately. According to Staff Writer Joanne Shriner, who is covering the meeting, 1,226 signatures were needed for the petition to be successful and 1,648 signatures were ruled valid with 123 being deemed invalid. It's believed today's vote of the council to abandon the current areas was made instead of a referendum being held at a later date to garner resident opinions on the matter. Full story to come later.

Changes Made at MD Prison
The Chief of Security at the North Branch Correctional Institution in Cumberland was removed and reassigned by the state department corrections Monday.
The state said they did not react to a threat made by inmates.
That's against state policy.
A spokesman for the state prison system said they've found a number of problems with how staff followed the notification policy and expect more disciplinary action.

The Department of Homeland Security said Friday that an employee who runs a racist website predicting and advocating a race war has been put on paid administrative leave.
Ayo Kimathi, an acquisitions officer for Immigration and Customs Enforcement who is in charge of buying weapons and ammunition for the government, operates the website named "War on the Horizon." It includes descriptions of an "unavoidable, inevitable clash with the white race." Kimathi is black.
Kimathi, who calls himself the "Irritated Genie," told his supervisors that the website was set up to sell concert and lecture videos.

New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg has spent tens of millions of his billions trying to get his gun bans instituted in the rest of America, even though these laws have never stopped criminals from getting guns. That’s why he has had to resort to policing tactics such as stop and frisk to get the firearms away from the bad guys. Unfortunately, his one area of success is no longer allowed, and he’s looking for someone to blame.

A police officer told Love Wins Ministries not to hand out breakfast biscuits Saturday morning. The group has been doing that for six years.
"The city has no provision for these people being fed on Saturdays or Sundays," said Hugh Hollowell, founder of the ministry.
Distributing food in parks without a permit violates a city ordinance.
Mayor Nancy McFarlane said Sunday a city council committee will address the situation this week. McFarlane says neither she nor the council were involved in the decision to stop the meals.

State Withdraws Emergency Status Of Fertilizer Rules
Maryland's Agriculture Department says it has withdrawn its request to seek emergency status on proposed regulations on fertilizer use aimed at reducing Chesapeake Bay pollution.
The department announced it was pulling back the request on Monday. That's two days before a legislative panel was scheduled to take up the proposal.
According to officials, the department sought emergency status in order to get the regulations in place in time for the fall planting season. The regulations are designed to use new research to reduce the amount of phosphorous that gets into waterways.

LEWISTON, MAINE The Farmers' Almanac is using words like "piercing cold," "bitterly cold" and "biting cold" to describe the upcoming winter. And if its predictions are right, the first outdoor Super Bowl in years will be a messy "Storm Bowl."
The 197-year-old publication that hits newsstands Monday predicts a winter storm will hit the Northeast around the time the Super Bowl is played at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands in New Jersey. It also predicts a colder-than-normal winter for two-thirds of the country and heavy snowfall in the Midwest, Great Lakes and New England.

Teenage Girls Accused Of Beating, Robbing Woman On North Side
PITTSBURGH — Three teenage girls are facing several charges, including ethnic intimidation after they brutally beat a 32-year-old woman Sunday in Pittsburgh’s North Side.
Investigators said the incident happened around 2 p.m. near the intersection of Concord and Itin streets.
According to police, the girls threw a bottle at the woman’s car and when she stopped to confront the girls, they attacked her.

Former Florida Rep. Joe Scarborough said Monday it was "outrageous" to suggest that voter photo identification laws are racist, claiming the issue has been covered in a "one-sided way" by the media

A 20-year-old man in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and first-degree burglary in the “senseless killing” of a 99-year-old woman.
Jason Tyrek Rogers was arrested on Friday at 11 p.m., two days after Police found Fannie Gumbinger, 99, dead in her home on Wednesday morning, according to Detective Lt. Edward Freer of the Poughkeepsie Police Department. Rogers is being held in Dutchess County Jail without bail or bond.

Teens May Have Murdered WWII Vet Because He Tried To Defend Himself
Delbert Belton, the 88-year-old World War II veteran who was savagely beaten to death last Wednesday by two teenagers, may have been murdered because he tried to defend himself and fight back while he was being robbed.
Spokane police have indicated that Belton enraged the teens when he tried to fend them off, which prompted them to beat him with "big, heavy flashlights" to the point where Belton was bleeding from every part of his head.
"Our information is that the individual fought back and that may have made this, you know, a worse situation," Spokane Police Chief Frank Straub said on Monday.

Maryland Emergency Manure Regulation Withdrawn
Thanks to a lot of hard work by a lot of people in the agricultural community throughout Maryland,the Maryland Department of Agriculture has withdrawn its proposed emergency regulation related to phosphorus applications on farmland.
The August 28 hearing in Annapolis for the General Assembly’s Administrative, Executive, and Legislative Joint Review Committee has been cancelled.
The Maryland Department of Agriculture will start working with the agricultural community to implement the Phosphorus Management Tool in a phased-in manner, something we were advocating. We appreciate the O’Malley government and Secretary of Agriculture Buddy Hance for recognizing our concerns and their willingness to work with us in a cooperative manner. This will allow the Maryland Department of Agriculture to develop a reasonable schedule to phase-in the new phosphorus tool.
We thank each person who worked with DPI and the other agricultural organizations prepare for the August 28 hearing and for the dozens of chicken growers and farmers who planned to attend the hearing on August 28 to have their voices heard. This truly was a team effort.

Haddaway And Colburn Call For Delay In Anti-Agriculture Regulations
Jeannie Haddaway, a candidate for Lt. Governor running with David Craig, is calling for the O’Malley-Brown Administration to delay adoptions of regulations that would prevent farmers from using locally produced organic fertilizer and re-consider defining them as "emergency" status which short circuits the normal review process.

Senator Richard Colburn (District 37) who is a member of the Administrative, Executive and Legislative Review Committee agreed with Haddaway's position and has called for a public hearing on the issue which is before his committee. In response, a hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday, August 28, 2013 in Annapolis.

Lew Tells Congress Treasury to Hit Debt Limit in Mid-October
The U.S. will hit the $16.7 trillion debt ceiling in mid-October, Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew said in a letter urging Congress to raise the limit “as soon as possible.”
“Extraordinary measures are projected to be exhausted in the middle of October,” Lew said in the letter today to House Speaker John Boehner and other lawmakers.
“At that point, the United States will have reached the limit of its borrowing authority, and Treasury would be left to fund the government with only the cash we have on hand on any given day,” he said. The cash balance at that time is forecast to be about $50 billion, “insufficient to cover net expenditures for an extended period of time,” according to Lew.

FARMER'S ALMANAC PREDICTS 'BITTERLY COLD' WINTER
The book uses words like “piercing cold,” “bitterly cold,” and “biting cold” to describe the upcoming winter. The authors predict a huge winter storm during the first outdoor Super Bowl in years. In a nine-page memo issued Friday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said agents should use “prosecutorial discretion” to try to avoid detaining parents and, if parents are detained, agents should make sure they have the ability to visit with their children or participate in family court proceedings.
The move won praise from immigrant rights groups who said it’s a step toward a kinder detention policy. But a top Republican blasted the memo as another effort by the Obama administration to circumvent the law.

In a testament to the depravity of thug culture, an Australian collegiate baseball player attending school in America was killed by three teenagers looking for fun, police reported. Christopher Lane, who was out for a jog in the town of Duncan, Oklahoma where his girlfriend and her family live, was targeted at random after he passed a home where the boys were staying. ”They saw Christopher go by, and one of them said: ‘There’s our target,’” said Police Chief Danny Ford. ”The boy who has talked to us said, ‘We were bored and didn’t have anything to do, so we decided to kill somebody.’”

‘Acting A Fool’: City Councilman Calls 911 To Rail About ’100 Sorry Black Kids’
An Ohio city councilman is under fire for his treatment of 911 dispatchers when he made a call in late June about a disruption outside his house.
The 911 calls made by Cleveland Councilman Eugene Miller record him swearing at dispatchers over “about 100 sorry black kids out here acting a fool.”
He said the group was fighting “in front of my damn house and I’m just sick of this sh**.”
The dispatcher tried to ask more questions about the situation but was told by Miller to ”just get the f***ing police over here, okay?”

And nearly 60 percent of the companies view private health insurance exchanges as a possible way to control their health-care and administrative costs by shifting the work of insuring their workers off to those exchanges in the future.
But most of those companies — which collectively employ 8.7 million people — don’t have firm near-term plans to do so.

Virginia’s Wallops Island To Launch Spacecraft To Moon
For the first time, a spacecraft is to be launched from Virginia to the moon.
The launch is scheduled for Sept. 6 from NASA’s facility at Wallops Island on Virginia’s Atlantic coast.
If all follows the plan, and the clouds cooperate, the 11:27 p.m. launch should be visible in Washington and in much of the Northeast.

Yes, Toxic Water From Fukushima Spreads To The Pacific Ocean
A storage tank at the site of the Fukushima nuclear reactors has sprung a “significant” leak and is now pouring out toxic water. Approximately 300 tons of radioactive water have already gone into the ground from where they can seep into the nearby Pacific Ocean.
As of Wednesday, Japan’s nuclear agency has upgraded the severity level of the leak from one to three on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Eight would be considered the gravest leak; each single-digit increase on the IAEA represents a tenfold increase in the severity of radiation released.

Speaking on CBS News on Sunday, Powell said the situation in Syria was beyond the capability of the US to influence to any significant extent as Washington has recently ratcheted up its war rhetoric on Damascus.
