I was at Cellar Door restaurant last night around 6:30 on Camden St. when the firemen arrived. There was an elevator emergency with someone stuck inside. I don't see that call in your log. The men handled the emergency ad seemed quite professional.

Again no fire calls. Thanks to the volunteers for handling the false automatic alarms. It proves we don't need all the paid firemen in Salisbury that we have to handle these calls. Great job Station 2 volunteers.

Great job station 2 ? Re-alerted and the station captain request the duty crew because nobody else came. Check your facts there buddy.

You go on and on about needing Paramedics. Well here's a fact for you to digest. Did you know that Firefighter EMT's assigned to the ambulances handle patient care on 80% of the ambulance calls. That's right Joe, Firefighter EMT's ! Paramedics are on the ambulances and they work as a team. A Paramedics skills are not called for unless Advanced Life Support skills are needed. The majority of the calls are for non-life threatening calls where an EMT can handle the emergency. When it comes to heart attacks, shootings and serious trauma their skills are put to use. The EMT and Paramedic work together during the shift and get additional help from fire units both career and volunteer when needed. Once you educate yourself the picture gets clearer. Welcome to todays Emergency Services.

A big thanks to all the volunteers out there you are the true jerks of the town. And thanks to all the paid firemen for doing maintains and chasing the EMTs around.

People constantly complain about Fire Fighters yet most people have no understanding of the job. A dedicated volunteer or professional career fire fighter is equally valuable. Yet on both side sides you will find worthless loads looking for just a paycheck, some kind of title or perceived power. The people who probably best understand what Fire Fighters do are those that have the least and live in conditions most people have never seen. The one thing they know is that when they call the Fire Fighters will come, whether it’s a broken faucet or a major emergency the fire truck shows up 24 hours a day. This group of people depends on the Fire Department for primary healthcare, part-time handyman services and many other things most people would never call 911 for , so just because you see a fire truck on the street and no fire doesn’t mean someone is not receiving help. The truth is the poorer the neighborhood is the more fires and greater the call volume is. I would guess that most people on this blog do not live in these neighborhoods and therefore only view the FD as a provider of EMS and nothing more.

I think we understand just fine but it still makes no sence to bring a fire truck for a person with chest pains.that's a waste of money, think of all the were and tear you put on those trucks. What the people would like to see is some common sence used. Every day those fire trucks just run around town chasing EMTS and that is a huge waste.

Why don't some of you schedule a ride along for 12 or 24 hours and see what actually goes on if you are not a current volunteer?

If you want to see wear and tear go to DC or Baltimore City. Try waiting 60 minutes for an EMS unit when none are available and the fire truck that shouldn't be on the EMS run transports a priority patient because all the EMS units are transporting drunks.

So you are trying to say the city is paying paramedics more money to drive the ambulance while the basic EMT does all the work?

This is absolutely false information. I would like the author of this post to sign his name so the paramedics know who has their back.
