Who would have guessed, five years ago, that by 2011 we would have mobile phones that would, in a rudimentary way, listen to our questions and give us useful answers? Or ways for doctors to get help to people in the most remote corners of the world?

Crystal-ball forecasts, fanciful or otherwise, are a staple of year-end conversations, but IBM, the computer-services giant, has a research arm that makes them as a matter of course. Every December, it puts out a "5 in 5" list -- five predictions for the next five years. The company says it is a way to solve major societal problems, identify business opportunities, and, while they're at it, get people talking.

Aerial Drones To Replace National Guard

The National Guard is reducing the number of troops on the Southwest border, and increasing its aerial drone surveillance as more border patrol agents take their positions. The announcement come from the Homeland Security Department. DHS says the drones will allow the National Guard to shift surveillance from fixed sites to mobile ones that can quickly match the dynamic environment of the border, and hopefully enhance their ability to detect and deter illegal activity at the border. The transition to the new DOD/DHS strategic approach will begin in January, with additional aviation assets in place by March 1.

New Rules For Fatigued Airline Pilots

•The Federal Aviation Administration is releasing new rules today, aimed at preventing airline pilots from flying while dangerously fatigued. This comes nearly three years after the NTSB found two pilots in a deadly crash in Buffalo, N.Y., were likely exhausted. Proposed rules include: Making work hours shorter for pilots who fly at night, while some pilots who fly during the day could wind up spending more time in the cockpit. Pilots would be required to have a minimum of nine hours off to rest between work shifts, one hour more than under present rules. Researchers say fatigue can impair a pilot's performance by slowing reflexes and eroding judgment, much like alcohol.

The Iraq War is officially over – for the third time.

The first time the Iraq War ended was on May 1, 2003, when President Bush announced – in front of a "Mission Accomplished" banner – that "the United States and our allies have prevailed" and "major combat operations in Iraq have ended."

Evidently major combat operations had not quite ended since 4,300 more American soldiers then died for a lie while President Bush promised to the families of those killed to "complete the mission so that their child or their husband or wife has not died in vain."

The second ending of the Iraq War was on August 31, 2010, when President Obama proclaimed that "the American combat mission in Iraq has ended" and "Operation Iraqi Freedom is over, and the Iraqi people now have lead responsibility for the security of their country."

Sixty-six more American soldiers then died in vain during "Operation New Dawn."

I hope for the sake of every young man and woman in the U.S. military that the Iraq War is really over this time.

Holiday Showdown Over Payroll Taxes Continues

Lawmakers and the White House appear locked in a stalemate that could drag all the way into the last week of the year. House Republicans killed a Senate passed two-month extension of expiring social security tax cuts late yesterday. They are demanding the Senate return from its holiday recess to negotiate a year long measure that would paying for the tax cuts with an extended federal pay freeze among other cuts. If legislation isn't passed by January first, payroll taxes will go up by almost $20 a week for the average worker. Almost 2 million people could lose unemployment benefits and doctors would bear big cuts in Medicare payments.

Chevy Volt Costing Taxpayers Up To $250K Per Vehicle

Each Chevy Volt sold thus far may have as much as $250,000 in state and federal dollars in incentives behind it – a total of $3 billion altogether, according to an analysis by James Hohman, assistant director of fiscal policy at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy.

Hohman looked at total state and federal assistance offered for the development and production of the Chevy Volt, General Motors’ plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. His analysis included 18 government deals that included loans, rebates, grants and tax credits. The amount of government assistance does not include the fact that General Motors is currently 26 percent owned by the federal government.

The Volt subsidies flow through multiple companies involved in production. The analysis includes adding up the amount of government subsidies via tax credits and direct funding for not only General Motors, but other companies supplying parts for the vehicle.

For example, the Department of Energy awarded a $105.9 million grant to the GM Brownstown plant that assembles the batteries. The company was also awarded approximately $106 million for its Hamtramck assembly plant in state credits to retain jobs. The company that supplies the Volt’s batteries, Compact Power, was awarded up to $100 million in refundable battery credits (combination tax breaks and cash subsidies). These are among many of the subsidies and tax credits for the vehicle.

A WOMAN'S WEEK AT THE GYM

Dear Diary,

For my birthday this year, I purchased a week of personal training at the local health club.

Although I am still in great shape since being a high school football cheerleader 43 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try.

I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Christo, who identified himself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear.

Friends seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started! The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress.

MONDAY:
Started my day at 6:00 a.m. Tough to get out of bed, but found it was well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Christo waiting for me. He is something of a Greek god-- with blond hair, dancing eyes, and a dazzling white smile. Woo Hoo!!
Christo gave me a tour and showed me the machines... I enjoyed watching the skillful way in which he conducted his aerobics class after my workout today. Very inspiring!
Christo was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, although my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time he was around. This is going to be a FANTASTIC week!!

TUESDAY:
I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out the door. Christo made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air then he put weights on it! My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile. His rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT! It's a whole new life for me.

WEDNESDAY:
The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it. I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as long as I didn't try to steer or stop. I parked on top of a GEO in the club parking lot.
Christo was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered other club members.. His voice is a little too perky for that early in the morning and when he scolds, he gets this nasally whine that is VERY annoying.
My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Christo put me on the stair monster. Why would anyone invent a machine to simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators? Christo told me it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. He said some other crap too.

Butt hole was waiting for me with his vampire-like teeth exposed as his thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl. I couldn't help being a half an hour late-- it took me that long to tie my shoes.
He took me to work out with dumbbells. When he was not looking, I ran and hid in the restroom. He sent some skinny witch to find me.
Then, as punishment, he put me on the rowing machine-- which I sank.

I hate that jackass Christo more than any human being has ever hated any other human being in the history of the world. Stupid, skinny, anemic, anorexic, little aerobic instructor. If there was a part of my body I could move without unbearable pain, I would beat him with it.
Christo wanted me to work on my triceps. I don't have any triceps! And if you don't want dents in the floor, don't hand me the darn barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich.
The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health and nutrition teacher. Why couldn't it have been someone softer, like the drama coach or the choir director?

Satan left a message on my answering machine in his grating, shrilly voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing his voice made me want to smash the machine with my planner; however, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and ended up catching eleven straight hours of the Weather Channel..

I'm having the Church van pick me up for services today so I can go and thank GOD that this week is over. I will also pray that next year my husband will choose a gift for me that is fun-- like a root canal or a hysterectomy. I still say if God had wanted me to bend over, he would have sprinkled the floor with diamonds!!!

Think about something you’re better-than-average at. Better yet, something you’re good at. Now imagine being required by law – backed by the threat of violence for failure to comply – to dumb yourself down to the level of the average. Performance at a higher level puts you in violation – and subject to punishment.

Ridiculous?

Of course. But that doesn’t prevent it from being the basis of traffic law (and other laws besides).

Consider “jaywalking.” The law says this occurs when a pedestrian crosses a street before an “ok to proceed” light tells him he may. The legal premise is that the average person is too low-performance to gauge when he may safely cross the street. And he may well be. But – and here’s where it gets interesting – rather than using the situation as a teaching moment, our system immediately, reflexively, puts up a crutch (the “walk/don’t walk” light) and – much worse – turns a punitive eye toward the able and competent pedestrians who don’t need the light. Incentives, on the one hand, are created that encourage passivity (mindless compliance) while on the other, another salvo is fired at the exercise of initiative for the sole purpose of defeating it and encouraging an ever-more-passive populace.

Think about it.

And I choose the word think very deliberately.

Bridgeville, DE- Delaware State Police Homicide Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in helping to solve a Bridgeville homicide that occurred in 2008.

On Saturday, December 20, 2008 at approximately 9:20 a.m. the body of Michael J. Chicosky was found deceased in a field off of Apple Tree Road in Bridgeville. The death was ruled a homicide by the office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The initial investigation by homicide detectives revealed that Chicosky and two other male subjects had been observed driving around the Bridgeville area in the victim’s 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser on Friday, December 19th. This was the last time Chicosky was seen alive.

On Saturday, December 20, 2008 at approximately 7:15 p.m., fire personnel were told to respond to Band C Storage located on Cannon Road (SR 18) in Bridgeville, for the report of a vehicle fire. After the fire was extinguished, it was discovered that the vehicle was the PT Cruiser owned by the victim, Michael Chicosky.

Homicide detectives have since followed several leads in this case, however, have not been able to make an arrest at this time.

The Delaware State Police are asking anyone who may have any information in reference to this homicide to contact Detective Mark Ryde at 302-741-2730. Open Letter To 'The Republican Establishment' - What the Military And Mainstream Knows About Ron Paul That You Should Learn

Ron Paul’s surge to the top of the polls in Iowa, and increasing likelihood that he will win is causing angst among many of you "Establishment Republicans". You are quick to try and dismiss a potential win as some sort of fluke, or owing to Independents registering to vote for him. Your typical argument against him is that "Ron Paul is too far out of the mainstream", and that his rise in the polls could be bad for Iowa’s standing as the first caucus and bad for the Republican party. Let’s address the idea that Ron Paul is out of the mainstream, and by implication, unelectable.

Divide Ron Paul’s positions into domestic and foreign policy. Domestically, Ron Paul is Mr. Republican. As the ideological founder of the Tea Party movement, he has put forward a plan to cut $1 Trillion dollars from the Federal Budget year one, and he has the voting record to make it credible. He has never voted for a tax increase. He has never voted for a program not authorized in the Constitution. He names 5 agencies that he proposes be eliminated: Energy, HUD, Commerce, Interior, and Education as well as the TSA. This sounds radical, but consider that in 1980 Ronald Reagan promised to eliminate the Department of Education if elected. As his plan points out, these cuts would return spending to 2006 levels. So his domestic policies, low and no tax plan, and budget plan should seem like a dream come true for you. Foreign Policy must be where Ron Paul is "out of the mainstream".

Ron Paul’s domestic policies quickly tie into his foreign policy. He proposes to bring home US troops from all around the world. This he claims, rightly, would be his prerogative as Commander in Chief. Note that this is not a reduction in overall military force, although defense budgets would be cut too, but the immediate savings from eliminating the cost of stationing troops abroad, with all the attendant logistics issues, foreign rents, and base maintenance costs. This is where you "Establishment Republicans" disagree with him. The boogeyman of Iran is constantly floated in the debates, acting as a foreign policy litmus test .

It is here, dear Establishment Republican, that Ron Paul’s position is in step with the rest of America as well as the rank and file in the military, while you are out of step. Consider that George W Bush won in 2000 largely due to the mainstream being tired of Clinton’s police the world strategy. "A humble foreign policy" was a nice alternative to the Democratic nation building most perceived would continue under an Al Gore presidency. In 2008, 7 years post 9-11 with the Iraq war lies coming to light, the mainstream again voted for the peace candidate, Barack Obama, and against John "bomb Iran" McCain. For you Establishment Republicans reading this, I’ll say it again.

Payroll Taxes On Americans Or Foreign Aid in 2012?

Congress is once again either unable or unwilling to perform the work that the American people hired them to do. The payroll tax extension they are creating so much drama over will cost the American taxpayers $33 billion next year if it is not renewed. Yet, withholding the $100 billion of direct/indirect foreign aid that is scheduled to be paid out next year is not even being considered.

The United States of America will not be respected as a true super power until we show the discipline, accountability and leadership of taking care of our own citizens first. Real estate agents are famous for putting a listing in the best possible light to close a sale. On Thursday, the industry's national trade association confirmed that its monthly data have been painting a rosier picture of the pace of home sales since 2007.

As msnbc.com reported in March, the National Association of Realtors has been overstating the pace of existing home sales by more than 16 percent. The trade group now says just 17.7 million existing homes were sold from 2007 to 2010, not the 20.6 million it originally reported. The NAR made no changes to its data on home prices.

NASA Testing Floating Servant For Space

NASA is testing out a new robot. This one floats and will act as a servant on the International Space Station. It is a floating robot servant powered by a smartphone. The Daily Mail reports that the robots can fly, navigate and record information all by themselves. NASA says that the inspiration came from the lightsaber training remote in Star Wars. These new robots are called Synchronized Position Hold, Engage, Reorient Experimental Satellites, or Spheres. They have a little brain like a smart phone, with the phone chip removed, and with double-A batteries for power. The spheres move around by releasing carbon dioxide as propulsion. The robots will be able to inspect areas of the station, and might one day be able to take flight outside the station.

Treats 4 Our Troops Van Stolen

Thieves have made off with a van containing treats and care packages for overseas troops and those in the hospital.

The van was stolen from outside the home of Treats 4 Our Troops founder Yael Roggen in Arlington, Roggen told NBC4's Angie Goff.

"In addition to all our personal items, in the van was a lot of candy, some boxed up ready to go, and bags made up for Wounded Warriors that were going to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Fort Belvoir," she told NBCWashington.com.

"We always have candy in the vehicle. There was activity in the neighborhood [Monday night]; they had gone through other vehicles, looking for change in the consoles.... [But] our car keys were in the house," Roggen said. "We have no idea how they made off with the van."

2 Women Share 1st Kiss At US Navy Ship's Return

Kiss marks first time on record that a same-sex couple was chosen for homecoming tradition

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A Navy tradition caught up with the repeal of the U.S. military's "don't ask, don't tell" rule on Wednesday when two women sailors became the first to share the coveted "first kiss" on the dock after one of them returned from 80 days at sea.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Marissa Gaeta of Placerville, Calif., descended from the USS Oak Hill amphibious landing ship and shared a quick kiss with her partner, Petty Officer 3rd Class Citlalic Snell of Los Angeles. The crowd screamed and waved flags around them.

Both women, ages 22 and 23 respectively, are fire controlmen in the Navy. They met at training school and have been dating for two years.

SYNOPSIS:On the above date and time Fruitland Officers responded to the Wine Rack for a report of disorderly patrons who broke a bottle in the parking lot after being refused service.  An officer observed the vehicle in the area of the 600 block of S. Camden Avenue and initiated a traffic stop for an unrelated traffic violation.  Upon contact with the occupants of the vehicle, Rasmussen attempted to conceal suspected CDS in his clothing.  Officers had the occupants exit the vehicle and Rasmussen became disorderly.  Officers attempted to place Rasmussen under arrest as he had caused enough of a disturbance to draw the attention of other citizens in the area.  Rasmussen resisted arrest and officers were finally able to secure Rasmussen in handcuffs.  Prior to being transported to WCDC, Rasmussen was found to have concealed a quantity of suspected CDS in his pants leg.  Waters was also found to be in possession of suspected CDS and was arrested as well.  Both were transported to WCDC without further incident.

SYNOPSIS:On the above date and time a Fruitland Officer initiated a traffic stop of a vehicle being operated by the above named suspect.  During the officer’s contact with the driver the officer became aware that other criminal activity may be present and requested assistance from the Fruitland Police K-9 Team.  A scan was conducted and the K-9 did have a positive alert for the presence of an odor of a Controlled Dangerous Substance.  A Probable Cause search was conducted and several pieces of CDS paraphernalia and suspected CDS were located in the vehicle.  The suspect was arrested and transported to WCDC without incident.

I've previously noted [8] that Obama says that he can assassinate American citizens living on U.S. soil.

This may sound over-the-top.

But nationally-recognized [9] constitutional law expert Jonathan Turley (the second most cited law professor in the country, one of the top 10 lawyers handling military cases, who has served as a consultant on homeland security and constitutional issues and is a frequent witness before the House and Senate on constitutional and statutory issues, who ranked 38th in the top 100 most cited ‘public intellectuals’ in a recent study by a well-known judge) said yesterday on C-Span (starting at 15:50):

It's even worse than coming into your house. President Obama has just stated a policy that he can have any American citizen killed without any charge, without any review, except his own. If he's satisfied that you are a terrorist, he says that he can kill you anywhere in the world including in the United States.

Two of his aides just were just at a panel two weeks ago and they reaffirmed they believe that American citizens can be killed on the order of the President anywhere including the United States.

You've now got a president who says that he can kill you on his own discretion. He can jail you indefinitely on his own discretion

AT&T Ends T-Mobile Merger; What Next?

Many people, especially T-Mobile customers, are wondering what will happen next now that the merger agreement with AT&T has fallen through. A few things to be noted, although there are several more in the article itself:
- T-Mobile will remain operational as an independent company for the time being
- Neither T-Mobile or AT&T are expected to see rate changes as a result of the failed merger
- There is a remote possibility that T-Mobile will become a separate company (currently owned by Deutsche Telekom) because of the significant break-off fee
Despite all the recent rumors and merge talks, T-Mobile is still expanding it's 4G network and making available new plans for customers.

TSA: Daggers Hidden In Book At Reagan Airport

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Transportation Security Administration says officers found two throwing daggers hidden in a hollowed-out book at a checkpoint at Reagan-Washington National Airport.

A TSA spokesman says a passenger was stopped Monday when officers found the knives in the person's carry-on bag. The daggers measured just over a half-foot long and were hidden in the hard-cover book.

The passenger was flying to Chicago and surrendered the knives and book

Student Sues School District Over Punishment For His Views Against Homosexuality

A student at a public high school in Michigan who was punished because he said that his religion opposed homosexuality is now suing the school district and his teacher for violating his civil rights, according to the Thomas More Law Center, which filed the lawsuit in federal court last week.

The case was filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and cites the plaintiffs as the student, his brother, and their mother, Sandra Glowacki, and the defendants: the Howell Public School District, and the teacher, Johnson (“Jay”) McDowell.

The incident took place on Oct. 20, 2010, the day that McDowell, Glowacki’s economics teacher, wore a purple “Tyler’s Army” t-shirt as part of a national campaign called “Spirit Day,” which is promoted by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) to raise awareness of alleged bullying of homosexuals.

Instead of teaching his economics course, McDowell reportedly used his allotted class time to promote the pro-homosexual agenda, which was accompanied by McDowell sharing his thoughts and showing a video concerning such bullying to his classes.

When Daniel Glowacki was in class, he reportedly witnessed McDowell order a fellow student to remove her confederate flag belt buckle because the teacher found it offensive. Glowacki then “raised his hand and asked Defendant McDowell why it was permissible to display a rainbow flag, which is offensive to some people, but not a Confederate flag, which Defendant McDowell found offensive,” states the lawsuit.

At that point, McDowell asked Glowacki “whether he ‘supported’ or ‘accepted gays,’ or words to that effect,” says the lawsuit. When Glowacki “responded by stating that his religion does not accept homosexuality and that he could not condone that behavior,” McDowell got angry, according to the lawsuit, and said “that his religion was ‘wrong,’ or words to that effect, and ordered [Glowacki] to leave his classroom under threat of suspension.”

Resume:
Dover, DE- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a one vehicle crash in which a vehicle severely damaged a Dover home this morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:45 a.m. this morning as Mark L. Lefevre, 49, was operating a 2007 Ford Expedition and was stopped on the shoulder of eastbound East Lebanon Road in Dover. For an unknown reason, Lefevre accelerated his vehicle and traveled in a northeast direction across the westbound lanes of Rt. 10. The Expedition then left the roadway and climbed an embankment where it struck a fence. It then continued down the embankment where it struck the rear of two homes located in the 100 block of Planters Run Court.

Mark Lefevre was able to exit the vehicle and was evaluated by responding EMS. He refused medical treatment. Lefevre was citied by troopers with Inattentive Driving and No Proof of Motor Vehicle Insurance.

Officials from the Kent Count Office of Licenses and Inspection responded to the scene and determined that one of the two homes that were struck was uninhabitable at this time. An occupant of one of the two houses, who was home at the time of the crash, was also not injured.

The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol or drugs does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

Georgetown, DE- Delaware State Police Property Crimes Detectives are currently investigating a string of residential burglaries that have occurred in the western portion of Sussex County, DE since September.

In early September of 2011 state police detectives began noticing an increase in residential burglaries that had been occurring in the area west of SR 404 to the Maryland state line in Sussex County. Since that time, detectives have investigated an estimated 25 burglaries that have occurred. In each case, the suspects who have committed these crimes have entered an unoccupied residence either through a door or window and once inside, have removed electronics, jewelry, and other personal items. The suspects were then able to flee from the homes undetected.

At this time Delaware State Police detectives, along with detectives from Dorchester and Caroline County in Maryland, who have also had an increase in residential burglaries, are actively investigating these incidents both in Delaware and Maryland. No arrests have been made at this time.

The Delaware State Police would like to take this time to offer a few quick tips in how to prevent being a victim of a burglary.

Lock all doors and windows when you are at home or away.
Invest in a residential security system and place an alarm company sign or “beware of dog” sign in your front yard.
Engrave and photograph all of your valuables.
Do not allow mail or newspapers to accumulate.
Always give the appearance that someone is home.
Be a nosey neighbor. Look out for suspicious activity. If you notice something that just does not feel right, call 9-1-1 immediately.

Salisbury Family Loses Christmas Presents To Burglar(s)

Maryland State Police are investigating a string of burglaries on or near South Westover Drive in Salisbury, including one in which the thief or thieves stole a family’s Christmas presents this week.

Police say they were called to the home Monday afternoon around 5 o’clock after the homeowner discovered that someone had damaged a side door to the home to gain access; once inside, the thief or thieves ransacked presents under the tree and fled with some gifts.

Medical Group Wants Legislators To Keep Teens Away From Tanning Beds

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) — If the holiday season inspires your teen to head to the tanning salon, take note. The Maryland State Medical Society is asking the General Assembly to keep the under-18s out of tanning beds. Political reporter Pat Warren explains previous efforts to ban those tans have failed.

The artificial light of a tanning bed led to their darkest hours. Heidi Edmonds and Jane Shapiro testified to that in Annapolis last year.

“We grew up going to the beach, going to the tanning salons to get a base tan,” said Edmonds.

“I’ve got a hole in my scalp under my hear that you can’t see,” said Shapiro.

Republicans Unhappy With New Plan For Redistricting

Local Republicans say the state's new redistricting plan dilutes their influence in Anne Arundel County.

Politicos studied the maps released Friday evening and concluded that new legislative districts in Anne Arundel could lead to the ouster of two Republican members of the state delegation.

"Just from my first look at the map, it's possible that we might lose control of the delegation in the next election because of the redrawn districts," Alan Rzepkowski, chairman of the Anne Arundel County Republican State Central Committee, said yesterday.

State Republicans criticized the plan as "overly partisan and divisive" in a statement laden with holiday-themed jabs.

Things just keep getting worse Folks. Allow me to preach for a minute before I get to this devastating news.

Salisbury News continues to bring you REAL NEWS, while the local MSM simply cover events and feed you information fed to them from whatever representative/department they are covering.

Yeah, you have certain anchor people that have been here for a long time but the MSM holds firm in stating they cannot, do not and or are not willing to offer any opinion.

The problem that comes from such alleged REPORTING is the fact that WBOC, WMDT and the Daily Times have come and go reporters who are NOT educated as to what is truly going on and that's exactly what the special interests want. They do NOT know what questions to ask because they have no clue what's going on.

Along comes Joe Albero who has been around for seven years who knows the ins and outs of local politics, who has a major platform to spread the real news and truth, it's no wonder they don't want me around. It's no wonder they are afraid to let us into Press Conferences.

You see Folks, Salisbury News has also come to learn today that Wicomico County's Pension Fund is SEVERELY underfunded by millions of dollars. Oh, is this NEW to you? Well, it shouldn't be! You see, it has been underfunded in the millions for three years now. $2,859,675.00 to be exact. Oh, and guess what. It's about to go into the 4th year because THERE IS NO MONEY!

So while your County Executive is playing with funny money, while your County Executive wants to pressure the Council into signing off on letters of intent for Bennett Middle School, know that your County Executive is pulling off what he had the reputation of doing while in Fruitland before ever becoming County Executive.

Last year the Council became aware that the Pension Fund was running short, so they agreed to place more than a million dollars into that fund. Hmmmmmm, why is it that it was only funded 8%?

FOUR YEARS in the RED!!!!!! Furloughs!!!!! NO COLA INCREASES!!!!! NO SALARY INCREASES!!!!! Yet they want to pass Collective Bargaining for the WCSO? They want to borrow over $40,000,000.00 for Bennett Middle School? They want to borrow $35,000,000.00 for Parkside?

Get your own damn house in order Rick Pollitt before you go shoving this kind of crap down our throats. As the Post below this one clearly proves, the health of the State AND the County does NOT look good. The numbers do NOT lie. STOP spending taxpayer money and acting like its in the best interest of every one involved.

IF Salisbury News was not here, NONE of you would be aware of what's going on. Taxpayers should be outraged that the County Executive has played with these funds. It's no wonder he wants TWO days in advance from Council Members about a request to speak to Department Heads. Does this sound familiar people?????

Just what kind of condition will Rick Pollitt leave the next County Executive in, because he most certainly knows he'll NEVER get elected into this position again, especially after this Post. Heck, he already knew it after the last election when he almost lost to someone who should have never been considered.

It sure makes me wonder, should I really consider running for County Executive when this guy is going to leave the position in an almost impossible financial rebound condition?

Most people are not aware as to what has been going on in this specific area of the budget.

WICOMICO Sales Tax Collections Continue Downward Spiral

Our staff has been monitoring many key economic indicators regarding our local, state, and federal economy. Some of our articles have included factory closings, displaced personnel - where we have even identified where former businesses have decided to relocate. Sometimes this activity draws 'ire' from some of the establishment because it makes them out to look bad - thus damaging their re-election hopes and aspirations.

Today we will report on Wicomico's historical sales tax collections from FY 2003 - FY 2010.

One would ordinarily believe that the sales tax collections would have increased by 20%. I guess this just goes to prove - once again - that the supply law of economics rules as 'demand destruction' sets-in. People and businesses have decided to take their business to DE or elsewhere. Wicomico's citizens ought to think twice before they commit our County to take on another school debt obligation under the current economic conditions.

As if the Bennett Middle School fiasco wasn't bad enough, let me tack one more proposal on the table right now YOU are not aware of.

Dagsboro Man Charged After Defrauding 3 Victims

Delaware State Police have arrested 29-year-old Jonathan Brown of Dagsboro after he defrauded two women from Millsboro and an elderly Harbeson woman.

Police say they began investigating Brown on November 20 when a 48-year-old Millsboro woman told officers that she gave Brown $135 for a flat screen TV that he told her a friend was selling; he told her he would deliver the TV a few days later but police say he never did.

An Update To The Bennett Middle School Article Below

Every one of you should know, County Executive Rick Pollitt is asking the Council to commit to this project BEFORE his new Budget comes out next Spring.

OK, so what does this mean? It means, the Council has NO IDEA what Rick Pollitt will deliver. HOW can Pollitt ask for such a thing when we already know the County can't pay for snow removal and the list goes on and on. Here's a guy who wanted to give $123,000.00 to County Employees as a Christmas Bonus, yet the County is receiving less and less on property taxes, less from Highway User Funds, the list goes on and on.

The 7 CENT (correction) tax increase is the MAXIMUM allowed by law and will only raise around $5,000,000.00, according to my calculations. You're welcome to challenge me on that but I'm confident I'm pretty close. THEN WHAT? Will there be another 7 CENT (correction) increase in the following Budget? I'm 96% sure, (LOL) they will.

Did YOU get a 7 CENT (correction) increase on your salary? Do you expect a 7 CENT (correction) increase next year? When is the last time a County Employee saw a 7 CENT (correction) pay increase, might be the better question.

Open your eyes Folks. Rick Pollitt is out of line pressuring the County Council to commit to money we ALL know isn't there.

Bennett Middle School Is Just The Beginning, Don't Be Fooled

In yesterday's County Council Work Session the Board of Education AND Rick Pollitt tried to be slick and get the Council to commit to signing a letter of intent to move forward with the Bennett Middle School project.

County Executive Rick Pollitt has been slick lately, going to the Press and telling them HE supports the collective bargaining for the WCSO and now the construction project for Bennett Middle School. Rick isn't representing the TAXPAYERS, he's simply acting like a wet pants liberal saying what a very select few WANT but IGNORING what the taxpayers can actually afford.

Although the Daily Times never offered a retraction towards their ridiculous and almost mentally challenged statement attempting to convince the public the state was paying 96% of the total project, one woman did come forward and challenged the Council as to WHY they didn't support the project when the state was going to pay 96% of the cost. Council President Joe Holloway was kind enough not to call out the Idiots at the Daily Times for being the party that created those numbers but he informed the few there that those numbers were grossly misrepresented and completely wrong. Today the Daily Times used more accurate numbers by saying, "Estimates from the BOE put the final price tag at $75.3 million -- $42.8 million of which is expected to be paid for at the county level." Its about time but they never cleared up their first mistake. I wonder where they got those new numbers from, hmmmmmm.

Deputy Director of Finance Andy Mackel stated this project would require a 7 cent increase in the property tax rate during the upcoming fiscal year, if the council were to agree to it.

Here's the deal Folks and here's what you're NOT being told anywhere else. First of all, the 7 cent increase is only for THIS UPCOMING YEAR!!!!!! Do NOT believe for a second that this will be enough to cover the project. Remember, we're dealing with politicians and a media that work together to SELL you on projects in which they only tell you a small portion of REALITY. Yeah, because they're stupid, you'll probably read from other Blogs that they support Bennett because they have no clue what's to come and simply kiss the a$$es of certain elected officials to get on their "play nice" side.

What you also don't know is the other school projects in the works. Bennett may be the one every one is talking about but there are SEVERAL other projects in the works right now that, (once again) the local media is keeping their mouth shut about.

You see Folks, Wicomico County simply cannot afford the project and we told you that to start with. Not being able to afford it means in the current situation, with the cash flow we currently have on hand, this project will not fly. SO, let's raise your taxes 7 cents JUST FOR ONE SCHOOL AND JUST FOR THIS YEAR! Let's not forget what increases we'll see in the next budget and the one after that and the one after that. It will not end until we stop these liberals from spending, spending, spending!

I seem to be burning a bridge with the Sheriff, County Executive, Ireton AND Fredericksen but the fact remains, I'm serving the public a whole lot better than any one of the names mentioned above. I'm doing what taxpayers should expect, I'm telling the TRUTH and being very open with what YOU should expect down the road. The fact that one school is calling for a 7 cent tax increase THIS YEAR alone and the fact that there are several more projects in line to come in front of the Council in the very near future, it will be one tax increase after the other shoved down your throats until we're taxes no different than Montgomery County, you know, the guys Rick Pollitt wants to chum up with and compete with whenever he goes to Annapolis.

The Bennett Middle School project needs to stop immediately and that is MY opinion. YOU have every right to challenge me here but if you do, do so with facts. Don't come on here just saying you want to see this project move forward, explain how and why because I'm NOT going to let up uneducated comments that simply support the BOE. Kind of like that UNEDUCATED IDIOT who stood in front of the Council stating the state was going to pay 96% of the cost of the project.

SUSPECT WHO ATTACKED POLICE WARRANT TEAM IN PRINCE GEORGE'S CO. CHARGED

(BALTIMORE, MD) – Criminal charges were served on a suspect who remains hospitalized after he charged a police warrant team with a knife last month in Prince George’s County and was wounded by a state trooper.

Michael W. King, 31, of the 9200-block of Goldenrod Lane, Upper Marlboro, Md., was charged on a warrant with first degree assault, second degree assault, and assault with a dangerous or deadly weapon. The warrant was served on King last week by members of the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office at the University of Maryland Hospital, where he remains a patient. He was ordered held without bond. He is under guard by Division of Correction officers at the hospital.

On the morning of November 30, 2011, members of the United States Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force went to King’s residence to serve a warrant on him for drug distribution. Police developed evidence that King was in the home, but he would not answer the door.

Continuing to identify themselves as police officers, the warrant team entered the home and was initiating a search for King when he appeared from behind a wall and ran at team members with an upraised knife. He was shot and wounded by a Maryland state trooper from the Criminal Investigation Division who is assigned to the warrant/fugitive team.

Based on the preliminary investigation by members of the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit and Internal Affairs Unit, the trooper involved has returned to duty. The investigations are continuing.

Man Released In Child-Abuse Case Facing Jail Time

Eight months after he was sentenced to time served for violently shaking his infant son, a Glen Burnie man was charged with attacking the baby's mother over accusations of infidelity.


Thomas Hillery Virts III, 27, of Stevens Road, now faces more than nine years in prison for violating his probation.

A performance-based board for continuation of senior enlisted Sailors recently convened at Navy Personnel Command (NPC). The Fiscal Year 2012 Senior Enlisted Continuation Board (SECB) will review records of approximately 7,700 personnel in pay grades E-7, E-8 and E-9 for continued service. Commanding officers will be notified of the results via BUPERS Online and will have seven days to notify and counsel those Sailors not selected for retention. After seven days, Sailors may review their individual status on BUPERS Online. Sailors not selected for continuation must transfer to the fleet reserve or retire by Sept. 30, 2012 and will have access to the Navy's Transition Assistance Management Program.

Sussex County Councilman Vance Phillips is home for the holidays. On Dec. 20, after more than a month of treatment, he left Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, where he has been recovering from injuries sustained in a late October aircraft accident near Lynchburg, Va. Still in a wheelchair, Phillips said he will continue with physical therapy closer to his Laurel home.

OCPD NEEDY DRIVE DONATES FOOD BASKETS AND HUNDREDS OF TOYS TO OCEAN CITY FAMILIES

The OCPD Christmas Needy Drive was started by Chief DiPino’s grandfather in the Baltimore Police Department many years ago. The tradition was continued by her father in Baltimore, and later by Chief DiPino in Ocean City. This year is the 16th year for the OCPD Christmas Needy Drive and each year the event has grown.

The OCPD Christmas Needy Drive volunteers not only helped families load toys and boxes of food for the holidays, but also assisted in transportation for some people who otherwise would have had to take the bus. Chief DiPino was very pleased with the event. “Every year I worry about whether or not we will have enough donated toys and food to give the families,” said Chief DiPino. “But every year the Ocean City community comes together to provide for those who are less fortunate.”

Several Ocean City businesses and organizations contributed to the success of this year’s needy drive. On Wednesday, December 6, 2011, the Ocean City Elks Lodge and Ladies Auxiliary donated over $4,000. Also making large contributions were the Delmarva Condominium Managers Association (DCMA), who stopped by the Public Safety Building with several bags of toys and a donation of $1,000, Atlantic Physical Therapy who donated 20 bicycles, the Ocean City Parrottheads “Hots for Tots” Chili Cookoff and Councilman Brent Ashley who donated $1,000.
Additional community donations came from The Greene Turtle, Fager’s Island, Caine Woods Association, the American Legion, the Marine Corps League, the Ocean City Hibernians, and several independent community members.

“Without the generosity of Ocean City businesses and residents, this needy drive would not be possible,” said Chief DiPino. “It is an example of what makes our community so special and it is truly what Christmas is all about.”

MLK Parade Bomber Gets 32-Year Sentence

(SPOKANE, Wash.) — A man who admitted to planting a bomb along a Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade route was sentenced Tuesday to 32 years in prison, the maximum punishment as negotiated under a plea deal that he tried to withdraw and then later denounced. "I am not guilty of the acts that I am accused of and that I plead guilty to," Kevin Harpham said just before U.S. District Court Judge Justin Quackenbush handed down the sentence. He only agreed to the deal in September to avoid a possible life sentence, Harpham said.

House Fights For Tax Relief And Certainty For Unemployed And Physicians

Today, the U.S. House of Representatives continued the fight to ensure full middle class tax relief for 160 million Americans, fair Medicare payments to physicians and the extension of unemployment insurance benefits to Americans still struggling to find good jobs. Yet Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid felt the issue was not important enough to warrant returning from his holiday vacation to appoint a conference committee to resolve differences between the House and Senate bills.

Missing Toddler Ayla Reynolds Had Unstable Home Life

Details of an unstable home life have emerged in the case of missing Maine toddler Ayla Reynolds, who was vanished from her father's house Friday night. Reynolds was reported missing Saturday morning by her father, Justin DiPietro, who told police he put the 20-month-old to bed on Friday night and found her missing the next morning.

 The girl had been placed in his custody just weeks before by the Department of Health and Human Services because her mother, Trista Reynolds, had entered rehab for substance abuse, according to Trista Reynolds' relatives.

OCEAN CITY POLICE REMINDING CITIZENS: “THE BEST WAY TO SPREAD HOLIDAY CHEER IS DRIVING SOBER THIS YEAR”

The Ocean City Police Department is reminding citizens that “the best way to spread holiday cheer is driving sober this year.” While millions of people celebrate the holidays, the Ocean City Police Department will be aggressively enforcing impaired
driving, distracted driving and negligent driving to assure that people get home safely this season.

“The message is simple, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over. Drinking alcohol or doing drugs and driving do not mix. If you plan to consume alcohol, or are under the influence of any substance, you should not get behind the wheel of any vehicle or operate a motorcycle,” said Chief Bernadette DiPino.

In December 2009, there were 753 people killed in crashes that involved drivers or motorcycle riders with blood alcohol concentrations of .08 grams per deciliter or higher.

“Unfortunately millions of drivers on America’s highways still think they are invincible, and they choose to jeopardize their safety and the safety of others on our roads,” she said. “There will be no spreading holiday cheer behind the bars of a jail cell,” Chief DiPino continued. “Don’t let your 2011 holiday season end in an
arrest or worse, death. Remember, whether you’ve had way too many or just one too many, it’s not worth the risk.”

The Ocean City Police Department recommends these simple tips for a safe holiday season:

Plan a safe way home before the festivities begin;

Before drinking, designate a sober driver and leave your car keys at home;

If you’re impaired, use a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public
transportation;

If you happen to see a drunk driver on the road, don’t hesitate to contact your local law enforcement; and remember, Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over. If you know someone who is about to drive or ride while impaired, take that person’s keys and help him or her make other arrangements to get home safely.

Unemployment Fell In 43 States In Nov.

(WASHINGTON) — Unemployment rates fell in 43 states in November, the most number of states to report such declines in eight years.

The falling state rates reflect the brightening jobs picture nationally. The U.S. unemployment rate fell sharply in November to 8.6 percent, the lowest since March 2009. The economy has generated 100,000 or more jobs five months in a row — the first time that's happened since 2006, before the Great Recession.

STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY ON NOVEMBER JOBS REPORT

ANNAPOLIS, MD Governor Martin O’Malley today released the following statement on the U.S. Department of Labor’s release of preliminary employment data for the month of November. The report shows that Maryland’s unemployment rate improved 0.3 percentage points in November to 6.9 percent - 1.7 percentage points below the national average. Maryland employers added 2,000 jobs in November, the third straight month of job growth. Since January, Maryland has added nearly 27,000 jobs, the largest January-November job growth since 2005.

“This month, our State added 2,000 jobs, helping drive down our unemployment rate to 6.9 percent – dropping below 7.0 percent for the first time since May 2011. Since the start of this year, we’ve added 27,000 jobs, meaning more Marylanders are working and supporting their families.

“The private sector continues to drive our job growth, adding 4,300 jobs to Maryland’s economy this month. However, in order for businesses to create more jobs, government must do its job. We know that a modern economy requires modern investments and the most important job we have is to create the next one. We must remain focused on making the investments in our infrastructure, school construction, and other shovel-ready projects that are necessary to create and save jobs for our families.”

Perry Double Dips State Salary and Pension

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas Gov. Rick Perry is a double-dipper, collecting a salary and retirement benefits simultaneously, according to a personal financial disclosure form made public Friday.

The report filed with the Federal Election Commission shows that Perry is collecting his $7,700 monthly state pension in addition to his nearly $133,000 annual salary as governor. State law allows any employee to begin collecting retirement benefits if their years of military and state service plus their age adds up to more than 80.

To qualify, the 61-year-old Perry counted his five years in the Air Force and 24 years in public service in Texas, including as a part-time legislator, agriculture commissioner, lieutenant governor and governor.

Pollitt, Jr., will deliver his annual “State of Wicomico County” address on Wednesday, December 28th at 10:00 A.M. in Council Chambers of the Government Office Building. The public is invited. Mr. Pollitt has traditionally used the “State of the County” speech to recap the activities of the past year and set an agenda for the new year.
