I was a student at Pocomoke High School when John F. Kennedy was elected President of the United States and I remember him very well. Some people agreed with his policies and some did not but he was a well respected man. The entire country was traumatized when he was assassinated on a Friday afternoon in Dallas. His body was returned to Washington on Friday night and lay in state in the Capitol Rotunda on Saturday and Sunday. His funeral and burial were on Monday. From the time of his death until he was buried was a total of 71 hours.
Today we have a congressman from Georgia who died of natural causes at an advanced age. He neither wrote nor sponsored any legislation except for naming post offices after his friends. His only real claim to fame is that he was the victim of a beating by an Alabama State Trooper over 50 years ago. He died two weeks ago and is still not in his grave.
