Hawaiians are becoming increasingly angry, not because the tourism industry has collapsed, and 37% of the labor force has just filed for unemployment, but mostly because US mainlanders, motivated by super discounted flights and hotel rooms, continue to pour into the various Hawaiian Islands during the pandemic.
Troy Kane, a local on Oahu, who was interviewed by The Guardian, said residents are abiding by the stay-at-home orders as cases and deaths surge. He points out tourists on the island are ignoring social distancing rules and risk spreading the virus to locals.
"Locals are following the orders, staying home. But there are people, who are clearly tourists, here by the dozens," said Kane. "They're still out here, still in groups of seven or more, still coming, and that's a problem."
The Guardian says, "$100 airfares" are enticing people in quarantine in the continental US to vacation in Hawaii. Last week, nearly 800 tourists arrived on the islands. The influx triggered a nerve among locals and officials who argue tourists need to leave.
As of Monday, 580 cases and ten deaths have been confirmed across the Hawaiian Islands. About 35 cases have been non-residents.

Wow! The first thing you need to know is that it is a blue state, you know the tolerant ones, the most selfish people on earth, they want the nonresidents to get out of there state but want us in the lower 48 to allow every illegal to come on in and get free medical, college, welfare and not to mention vote, gee isn’t it the dumbacrats that don’t want foreign Influence in our elections? I wonder what there definition of foreign interference is? It’s just another example of do as I say not what I do.
I feel the same way. My family and I have followed the directives, sheltered in place, and have been careful to only take truley essential trips (which so far has only been the local food lion). To see others who have disgregarded similar directives in their home states and threaten my family, my friends and neighbors makes me angry.
The natives don't want Americans there to begin with !!!
They want all the benefits of being part of America though , like Puerto Rico
Guam , American Samoa !!!
They are Ungrateful to the White (Hal-ees) who made things better for them !!!
PR hates us, but they Love paying NO Federal Taxes & can act like they
are American , when it benefits them !!!
They got their cake & get to eat it too !!! They don't want to be a state ,
but want ALL the benefits !!!
They & ALL U.S Territories should Pay the same Taxes as we do here !!!

Native Hawaiians ARE Americans , you dolt. Hawaii has been a state since 1959. Are you so uninformed that you think Hawaii is a possession (territory)of the USA like PR & Guam? You should have finished high school.
I have several friends who either went to college there, lived there for a while, or worked there.
They tell me that white people better stay in the tourist areas.
Venture into the "countryside" of Hawaii and the locals openly harass you and have no problem beating you half to death. They hate white people in Hawaii.
But they love their welfare checks.
It's Haole. I lived there during my middle school years. The kanaka maoli are not much different from the local born heres.
