A few months ago, the police department and the Town of Princess Anne supported a proposed speed limit change on Route 13 in town from the State Highway Administration.
The new signs have recently been posted for both north and south bound traffic from UMES Boulevard to Deal Island Road. The new speed limit is 45mph.
Anyone with any questions or concerns are encouraged to contact our office at 410-651-1822.

a speed trap, just like the one in fruitland on route 13 and in every small town on the virginia eastern shore on route 13. i guess we can expect to see a couple of princess anne cops permanently stationed on route 13, 24/7 trying to catch "speeders" so the town of princess anne can rake in some extra money. SMH
I won't dispute that it may be a speed trap that could be overly enforced, but you are incorrect about the revenue part, unless the state has changed. All money's collected through traffic citations go directly into the state general fund, with the exception of a fee that goes to support the aviation medical unit of the state police. No agency or jurisdiction is benefited, just the Maryland State government.
I pull my boat thru there alot in the summer. Guess I'll be seeing people lit up more now. Hahaha!
Ridiculous! Anyone notice how thick the police have been this week? And they still have another week to meet the quota!
The speed limit should be slower on these "in town" areas because there is more traffic turning in and out of businesses along there.
Old no, Unions are setting up speed traps now.
Are they low on money??
Just servin' and protectin'.....
I made that last part up...
Keep cheering. As they tighten the screws on you....
Still not as bad as the scam in Pocomoke City along Rt. 13 where city limits are 300 feet wide and 4 miles long. Pocomoke PD sits there and just cleans up on fines.
It's all about $$$.
That spot should be 65. Another government money grab as usual.
just put in a roundabout
Speed trap or drug smuggling trap, either way it makes the road safer.
The money from citations goes to the state. Most of that money stays on the Western shore. Only a small pittance ends up back on the shore. If the town wanted to make money they would've been better off putting up a speed camera like Salisbury.
Great way to “make money”
Pocomoke PD needs to stay off the highway and worry about all the crime in their downtown (back burner) area.
Only DE towns keep the money they make on tickets. All ticket money goes to the State in MD, and they decide how to distribute that out. Guess what - most stays on the Western side.
No agency or jurisdiction is benefited, just the Maryland State Government? Something im missing here?
Berlin reduced their speed limit to 45 mph because a cop killed a kid while racing through 113 at Bay St. So they reduce the speed, yet the police still speed on through. How's that for law enforcement? I geuss they will reduce it again when another cop kills another kid.
i got a better idea, how about running a bypass around the town. That way not only do they lose revenue from the speeding tickets all the businesses will lose revenue to. Show them just how much we like their politicians stupid ideas! they want slower/less traffic give it to them!
THAT should help with their budget shortfall! They will be able to hire two or three more police officers just to run the speed traps 16-20 hours a day, buy new police cars, and have a surplus for the police department that can be used for other departments. It is the Greenwood Delaware model. I am expecting Snow Hill to annex the RT 113 bypass portion that runs outside of town when the bypass is finally completed (soon). It's what Berlin did, and soon to be what Snow Hill does. As all the other towns up and down RT 13 have discovered, speed enforcement on US highways is very profitable to the small towns that they run through. And the towns receive little to no negative feedback from the residents, as the cops will target out-of-towners for tickets, and let locals off the hook. Win/Win, except for the poor travelers trying to get somewhere up the road without being harassed and ticketed by some local yokel cop.

Are you saying the towns can keep the money from citations that are generated by a speed camera, but not citations issued by the local police? That makes no sense and I think you are wrong, one way, or the other.
11:25
Ok, let’s do it.
I will put in $100
How much can you pony up?
If the towns don't get any money from tickets, why are the police in towns like Fruitland SO committed (with daily, multiple, HIDDEN radar stops) to writing their own citizens up for 1-3 miles an hour over the limit???
DON'T tell us that 27 in a 25 is so dangerous that they have to be focused like they are....
Come up with a better reason that "safety".
Oh. Right. Serving and protecting.
And no, I have never got a ticket in Fruitland, but I drive through there often and am amazed at the number of radar units active in such a small municipality.
You think ?
You need to drive on Route 50 West Bound out of Ocean City weekly.
Berlin State Police boogie in their unmarked SUVs up 50
I work in OC and I do 60 normally going home
These State Boys are going home too, and Zip past me in nearly double the speed limit
I'm sick of my tax dollars being wasted on State Police
Hahaha, now that really is funny
I think you're right 8:51
Because they watched Barney Fife when they were younger
In Fruitland on Camden Ave. extended, I put on my cruise control at 30 mph in a 25 mph zone and ride past many cops over last couple of years , and never been stopped.
Obviously, you meant to headline, SPEED TRAP INSTALLED IN PRINCESS ANNE.
Which is what it really is.

Talk about "stupid ideas." Yours is really ignorant. Build a bypass around Princess Anne!!!! Route 13 IS the bypass. It used to run right through downtown in P.A. Just like in Pocomoke, Rt 13 is now dual and a bypass. It too used to run right through downtown Pocomoke.
And no, I have never got a ticket in Fruitland.....

And that means you don't know a damn thing about the over the limit threshold that results in getting a ticket in Fruitland. No speed camera in Maryland is allowed to issue a ticket for anything less than 12 MPH over the limit. It is regulated by the state. And cops can use their discretion, but NO COPS write tickets for 1-3 MPH over the limit. Most will just watch you go by at 10-11 MPH over the limit, unless they have profiled you to "check you out," or you are flying through a school zone when kids are getting out from school. You are full of "it" and are just making it up. Some cop must have pissed in your cornflakes for you to tell such blatant misconceptions about cops & traffic tickets. My guess, you got caught somewhere, and got what you deserved. Why should anyone listen to you?

If you think the State Police are bad with their speeding in their "company vehicle" on their way home, you should see how their wives drive with their "MSL" vanity tags that identify the vehicle being registered to an active or retired police officer. Got my doors blown off by a woman in one on the bypass in Salisbury just this week. I stopped clocking her at 85 MPH, and she was still pulling away at a higher rate of speed. Had to be running close to 100 MPH. It was not a "company car." It was a personal vehicle with the MSL tag. Nothing like having immunity from breaking the law. When the politicians say "no one is above the law," they mean no one but them and...law enforcement and their families!
Clue:
If you slow down, they will lower the speed limit.
Funny thing about Statutory Law
It is designed to enslave people
Just another speed trap to write more tickets than they already
do !!!
A judge needs to pull all the Radar happy cops off the roads & put them in a school !!! They are overpaid for writing damn
tickets all day !!!! & They speed more than anyone else !!!!
Send them to ECI to write tickets All day !!!! They will get their
fill of it there babysitting inmates !!!
Leave the public alone !!! We are Not in Prison !!!
Next will be DRONES writing tickets !!!! Bet on it

Hey Mr. Oblivious, you do know that cops can't catch speeders if they drive the speed limit, don't you? Or doesn't that make sense to you? They have to go faster to catch up to you, if you're speeding. No cop catches a speeder while running the speed limit. If they drive the speed limit, they never catch up to a speeder, and all the speeders behind them will slow down and not pass a police cruiser in front of them. It would be stupid for a cop to run the speed limit. But you're not a cop. You have no clue.
2:52 pm I have seen many cops SPEEDING, just because they
can, & NOT going to any call or incident !!! FACT
There is No-one to pull them over, let alone give them a ticket !!!
Tickets for speeding are NOT about Safety , ONLY about $$$$$
I know that cops take care of cops too, & when they Drive Drunk , they take care of it , so they are not in trouble !! FACT
Cops should be made to stay at the schools & protect our
public & kids & quit the damn ticket writing attacks !!!!
Be FOR us , Not AGAINST us Taxpayer Citizens who Pay you !!!
We need POLICE to POLICE the POLICE !!!!
Tired of DelMarVA being turned into a Police state !!!
This is Not Russia !!!
