A Viewer Writes: DO LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS TAKE CARE OF ONE ANOTHER ANYMORE

I recently attended a Fraternal order of Police meeting and this is what I observed.

1. A 20 yr veteran was disrespected for having the disabled interest at heart.

2. A board member told another 20 yr veteran who was injured how he was glad how that veteran was being treated by his work place.

3. I watched another 20 yr veteran who was injured attempt to put a motion on the floor and the President wouldnt allow it.

4. A 28 yr veteran who was injured stood up to speak and was so DISGUSTED at the board he started crying and said "Its not worth it" and walked out.

I watched the President stand up and grandstand about how she has been treated by the members and how terrible un truths have been told about her on SBYNEWS.

Then I heard them talk about allowing firefighters into the Fraternal Order Of Police Lodge so they could get there money.

I hope and pray all the members in attendance that night witnessed how much the board cared about the new building, and how much care and attention they showed to the Men and Women of Law Enforcement. I know my opinion about the board has changed!

THAT NIGHT, BOARD YOU BROUGHT SHAME ON US. YOU GUYS EMBARRASSED ME.

Sad to say but it's not just FOP! There is no loyalty or respect for themselves let alone respect for others.

Sounds like the Wicomico County FOP.

Solidarity went out the window years ago. Nothing but back stabbing, two faced cut throats

Again, you can’t recover quickly when your rude in general and to other departments in the lodge, when your very own deputy drained almost $100,000 out of the account and “no one realized” until it was almost fully depleted.

The people have tied the officers hands , they aren't allowed to do the things they used to do. We are the responsible ones , if someone is injured in the line of duty , they are paid by workers comp. , so get over it . They are people and humans , they have a job , let them do it. Unions are for the lazy and complainers , fire depts. are worse .

first off, she didn't get put in charge by herself. They had to vote her in so they can vote her out if they don't like what she's doing. Secondly, it's always about the money! Unfortunately for these individuals who thought they were going to be big man on campus and carry a gun and badge and boss others around, only now are realizing they don't matter in the overall scheme of things. Only the political class matters the rest can go to hell. which unfortunately includes all of us! Welcome to the club!
naive at best, stupid at worst!

Come on
These people are enforcing Statutory Laws against the American People who were promised Common Law by the Constitution.

I’m surprised they can sleep at night.

Educate yourselves!

I can comment on number one because I'm the one your talking about. I was resigning that night. Not going to go into the many reasons because that's FOP business. I had it worked out with the Vice President that my resignation letter would not go into affect until 2200 hrs that night. I gave him such letter and wrote my resignation date and time on the letter. He agreed with my request about the date and time. I handed out prior to the meeting a copy of said letter because I wanted everyone to know why I was doing what I was doing.
The meeting started and almost immediately the President told me and the members she had my letter and I was excused. I informed her my resignation letter was not affective until 2200 hrs. She told me she accepts my letter and I can leave. The Sgt of arms backed her play and told me to leave as well. After 20 yrs in that lodge THE WAY those two dismissed me was hurtfull and unbelievable. I fell on the sword that night for brothers that I KNOW deserve better representation than what they have gotten thus far. I would do it again without hesitation! To the lodge good luck and I'm praying for you all. To the members if ANY OF YOU need anything I'm a phone call away excluding FOP business.

Its funny how people will read and react to what amounts to nothing more than gossip

Anonymous said...

UH yes they do, it is not called THIN BLUE LINE FOR NOTHING... And you don't see cops going to jail do you??? Even when they murder people??? NO so yes they look out for each other...

Anonymous said...

I completely agree. I feel like it's a crybaby Club. Salisbury Fire Department has a ridiculous situation. Pay us all your dues so that whenever you need the union we can turn our backs on you and get you know representation. But again, be sure to pay your dues.

Another female failure , lets elect a female for president and really get screwed.

“Taking care of”?
You mean colluding with each other cover up their crimes? Their affairs, cheating on their wives and husbands?
You mean conspiracy to entrap, set up people? You mean covering for obstruction of justice and planting or stealing evidence??
Yeah, what a brotherhood. Sounds more like the mob. Actually, at least the mob had some rules and integrity.

Law Enforcement...just men and women like everyone else, yet they all think they are special and entitled, or they get offended. Geesh!

Anonymous said...

The FOP has no play. The Sheriff can run his office how he sees fit. If you don’t like working there, the door swings both ways. No one is forcing your hand. If your not fit for duty, time for you to move on. We all know these men have sucked the teet for over a year. And we all know the REAL stories behind their injuries and whether they have the ability to work or not. And all guy Deputies know
exactly what I’m taking about. So quit the dam crying. In my opinion, some of you need to be charged with outright theft.

Anonymous said...

so the system doesn't find any value in you any more since you are leaving? shocker! NOT!

Anonymous said...

9:23 WOW I hope you arnt a Law Enforcement Officer. If you are, I hope you never get hurt. Many of you forget these are BINDING CONTRACT ISSUES WITH THE COUNTY. They are required to abide by the contract. I hope Sheriff Lewis is watching this story and considers this ladies leadership abilities when it's time for Promoting someone to his command staff. If she can not keep a lodge under control she in no way is fit for a commander position.

Anonymous said...

Amen, quick to pull the sword on others yet protect their own officers for offenses where they should be charged.

Oh, you mean that contract that the ATTORNEY never signed?? The one that they told the FOP was crap!!! There is no contract. If you believe there is, then you’re a fool. There’s a piece of paper with words on it, but it’s not a contract. And it’ll never hold up when challenged. That’s exactly why the ATTORNEYS (the experts) didn’t sign it!!! And exactly why the County knows it can’t be enforced.

Cops fighting among themselves,I love it. LOL

9:23 please call me. If you dont have my number I'm giving EVERYONE who has my number permission to give it to you. I want to tell you how I spoke to a Law Enforcement Officers wife this morning who JUST HAD surgery to attempt to fix his injury which occurred on duty. I want to tell you how she told me her husband is in so much pain he can not talk on the phone. This is one of several examples I would love to tell you about. I'm available all day! I want to tell you HOW HE DONT DESERVE TO BE CHARGED WITH THEFT! This may help sway your decision to back injured Leo's and not bash them!

Anonymous said...

Another thing that the FOP board needs to understand if they dont already. Their lawyers will win if they are sued because they ADVISED DO NOT SIGN AND THEY DID NOT SIGN. However, the board can ABSOLUTELY be sued. If this happens they will lose in court. They are in DANGEROUS WATERS if they are smart enough to realize it. If I'm not mistaken the President now was the vice President when the felony theft occurred.

How can the average citizen expect to receive any respect, when they police don't even respect each other???

Anonymous said...

FOP doesn't stand a chance here in Salisbury/wicomico county. Mike Lewis has TOTAL control of law enforcement going down in Salisbury, whether it's city or county. Lewis and Dykes showed you their true colors when they covered up LIZ DAY'S sexual assault of minors. If that doesn't prove just how corrupt this city and it's elected officials are I don't what will

Anonymous said...

Dig in to Dykes, you’ll find more. She and her pal McDermott are two peas in a pod.

Anonymous said...

They all cover up for each other. Cheating on significant others, stealing, drinking on the job the list goes on and on and on. It trickles down from the command staff and once it is acceptable there why not the rest of the department?

Anonymous said...

This is what you get with unions.....money is what they are after!!! Screw the worker as long as dues are collected for them....

The F.O.P. airing out their dirty laundry to the public is sad. To my knowledge the contract is in fact legal. The contract was signed by the interested parties involved. The contract is binding period. The issue I see is the President is afraid to enforce it. The Lord of Fly's mentality is sickening. If an officer is injured in the line of duty the F.O.P. should be involved in assisting that member under the by-laws. There is no place for those who are appointed their rank on the board period. It is a total conflict of interest. As I recall the current President did not want appointed ranks included in the contract. I guess she has changed her mind being that she is appointed in rank. As for all the bashing of police in general you people are the very people that run to the police when things go bad for you. The majority of police go their entire career protecting and serving the public to the fullest of their ability. As for Mike Lewis who has never supported the F.O.P. except when he joined the F.O.P. and became a paying member when he ran for Sheriff the first time only to just stop paying dues saying he no longer wanted to be a member. That is the Mike Lewis way use you till he no longer needs you. Say what you want but prior lodge Presidents stood by the creed of taking care of those at the bottom. This issue at hand involving injured officers is a nation wide problem for officers and their family's. Those calling these men and women cry babies should be ashamed. I find it interesting how those at the top begin to view those that are actually out there enforcing the law. Those at the top have no worries unless they they fall off their chair or get a paper cut. They do not work holidays or weekends nor do they work rotating shifts. many of the command staff at one time held executive positions in the F.O.P. I think the rank and file need to take their issues to an outside attorney. Also contact the state and national president to come in and asses what is going on within the county and the F.O.P. board. I am willing to bet the contract has not been enforced. This could result in civil liability by those who have violated the parameters set up by a binding contract. Gob Bless all law enforcement and stay safe and smart out there

Anonymous said...

Contract is with Mike Davey’s office in Baltimore. They represent the police that signed up for it.

Anonymous said...

The contract is with the County and the F.O.P. Mike Lewis is just pissed because he could not get the deputies what he promised when he ran for office. It took the F.O.P. and Bob Culver to get the much needed benefits these men and women deserve. Mike could care less he had his M.S.P. benefits I guess he just did not think the deputies needed that peace of mind in knowing if you are killed or injured beyond being able to fulfill duties your family would be taken care of. This issue goes way beyond the scope of this blog. No one feels there is anyone watching their backs except the brass. They need to do away with the Sheriff's Office and pursue a county police department. No elected official should be running law enforcement period. The term limits of any politician should be two and done. Just look at Washington it is a disgrace to the American people.

It's time we drop that attorney across the bridge and give our money to someone locally that has HONOR AND INTEGRITY. I'm confident that major changes are going to happen this time. The FOP has no options. Make the changes needed or watch FOP 111 close up. President has to go! Vote of no confidence or charges for things she has done per bylaws. Either way she has to go.

Anonymous said...

The state representative of the lodge was present and was even in on the private meeting. He set there and let all of this happen and did nothing to defend the deputies. He hast to go

Anonymous said...

How often have you attended meetings? When was the last time you put your name in the hat to run for an office? Have you ever been nominated for an officer position? Why not?
You hate the way things are going, but you have done nothing to help out. If you were a leader, you could run for office and actually make changes. Instead, you are a quitter.

Some people cut off their nose to spite their face. Light Duty is not guaranteed. It actually costs the county more $ than if they were out on worker’s compensation. And one guy could be terminated, immediately, the second the Dr said he could no longer be a cop. You guys will ruin a good thing for everyone else when light duty is taken away.

Prior to the F.O.P. getting involved deputies had no disability and life insurance was minimal. They also secured wage increases for deputies with guaranteed raises. I would not throw the baby out with the bath water. Sounds like a week board in place. The membership needs to pull together. If this President is doing what I have red on here they need to go. Every lodge has issues but they work it out. One has to remember where you live. Is the wage a livable wage. Do the benefits meet the need if so sound like you are doing o.k. What I am gathering is that injured officers are being screwed with and no one wants to step up. If that is the case you need to file a grievance with your state lodge. Just make sure you have read and totally understand your contract. Lets face we all see former cops out there that got 66% and they are working out and doing other jobs. This is definitely the minority and it occurs in every profession that offers disability. With that said get your big boy and girl pants on and hang on it will not be a fun ride. The bottom line is if you have legitimate line of duty injuries you have a right to disability under the contract. Stop throwing each other under the bus that will resolve nothing. God Bless and stay safe out there.

Is he quitting or setting up a system where deputies will have local legal counsel. The Leo's money wont be spent by people who dont know how to make good use of it. I think your getting ready to see something. Hold on. Members will be leaving there by the dozens if he is up to what I think he is. He is very smart when it comes to a dollar and forward thinking. I think he is about five steps ahead and it's not going to be good for the lodge. He is what we call SKINING A CAT A DIFFERENT WAY.

I wish you all would quit airing this in public. This is not the place. Makes all of us look bad. Grow up.

Contract is just for lawyers that is it. 66 2/3 is the law if service connected. NOTHING TO DO WITH FOP. Cops only join fop for the lawyers bc it’s at a discount. MOST SMART cops will go with private attorneys after the ball is rolling considering on what happen. NOTHING TO DO with injuries at meetings never has never will.

Nope wrong and light duty isn’t going anywhere. Can’t fire you for being injured disability act protects you. However you absolutely need a attorney for this.

Shane, please explain why you had to make a big fan fair out of your resigning. You could have handed your letter in after the meeting, that would have been the intelligent think to do especially if you had something to say at the meeting. Looks to me like you were trying to get attention and the spotlight for the night, maybe setting yourself up for the Sheriff's job. And people think Mike Lewis loves the spotlight, SMH.

Would love to explain to you why I did what I did. But out of respect for the fraternity you must call me and I will tell you all the answers you wanna know if you are a member. As for the Sheriffs job ONCE AGAIN I have considered just considered a run. If I would make that decision out of respect for my Sheriff I would tell him. At this time I have made no such decision. Please call me about the FOP business I would love to answer your questions.

Read your contract before spouting misleading rhetoric. You do have disability just because you do not want a doctor that represents the counties interest is ridiculous. It is in place so those not injured in the line of duty don’t get the benefit. Education is the key here. No agency allows the sole opinion of the injured officers doc. That would just be stupid. If you have a legitimate injury you should not fear the system. I have seen your contract it looks solid. Follow the protocol. If they are not adhering to the contract you have a civil case at least. This type of issue can be heard in Circuit Court. Stop crying. We all know the former deputy trying to get disability was hurt at his residence. That is not a good test case. If you’re injured in the line of duty and you have a licensed doc saying you are in fact injured fight your case. Trust me it will hold up in court if those morons fight it. If you win in court follow up with a law suit for hostile work place and violating a binding contract

They cover for each other when DWI DUI & other things !!!!

They can fire anybody who is not fit for duty. Immediately. Workman’s comp and FMLA are guaranteed. Light duty is not.
