NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) - According to the Tennessee Department of Health and the American Association of Pediatrics, it’s no longer recommended to send students home for lice.
Nashville mother Tabatha Skipper is no stranger to head lice.
“I kept having to leave in the middle of the day to go home and then spend two, three days at home dealing with the lice again and again,” Skipper said.
From February to April of last year, she says two of her children who attended McGavock Elementary School had lice four times, which posed a big challenge for her daughter with autism.

No point in sending them home when Hatian kids will come to school every day with a new batch.

Some information on this topic; Head lice do not as often adhere to Haitian or people of African descendancy due to the various hair styling products and grooming manners used. Note that the article references this, and also references the fact that head lice can and will adhere to any type of hair. As always, parents should routinely check their children (especially behind the ears and the nape of their neck).

First I’ve heard of the grooming products keeping the critters away. I’ve always heard that it’s because their hair is so thick and kinky, the lice suffocate.
