Smart Meters Could Be Over-billing You by a Whopping 582%!

Most people understand that utility bills are a necessary evil if they want to live in the modern world – even if utility bills eat up a large portion of monthly income. That said, few are willing to pay more than they should be paying, and yet, according to a stunning new report, some people arepaying more than they should. A lot more.

As reported by web site Boing Boing, a research team from the University of Twente in Enschende, Netherlands, and Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences documented billing inaccuracies in a paper that reviewed the efficacy of so-called “smart” electric meters, ranging from -32 percent to +582 percent of the actual power consumed in a month’s period.

The paper also noted that, ironically, the overbilling is mostly due to older power-saving features because they introduce line noise that interferes with the wireless signal and thereby ‘confuses’ the meters.

“Static, or electronic, energy meters are replacing the conventional electromechanical meters. Consumers are sometimes complaining about higher energy readings and billing after the change to a static meter, but there is not a clear common or root cause at present,” an abstract of the findings states. “Electromagnetic interference has been observed between active infeed converters as used in photo-voltaic systems and static meters. Reducing the interference levels eliminated inaccurate reading in static meters.”

I refused to let Delmarva Power to install one of these at my house for various reasons....I was penalized financially by them...they deny that this could eventually lead to them controlling my power use, which I don't believe, they all want control...

Me too its a control over the people thing.

now I feel so much better for paying $17 extra each month to NOT have a smart meter....did you ever wonder what the world would be like if Tesla hadn't been screwed by JPMorgan?

How stupid are you people???? As an electrical engineer, It is not hard to understand why this is the case... You have a god damn radiation beacon on the side of your house, that produces a signal every 1 to 3 seconds (YES the power companies lie on their website about home many times a day it transfers data or sends a signal) You can use a meter to see this!!!! Then you have an electric meter that needs what to operate??? ELECTRICITY... This smart meter uses energy to track your energy and it used energy to produce a signal for them to be able to shut your meter off with a mouse click, so the fat lazy meter reader if you have one, doesn't have to get out of the van, or so you cant harm them or stop them from turning your power off, like you could if you had an analog meter... And yes, as you all think it is a conspiracy, but it is actuality, they can use electromagnetic radiation or pulses, to even see where you are in your home if they had the right equipment, and I promise you, your police forces have this or soon will... And if you dumb asses think this can't be done, then ask your stupid self what is an EKG machine and what does it do????

8:38 You may be correct on a few of your assumptions in the beginning of your rant, but by the end your imagination & hallucinations are out of hand. Get off that stuff ... not good for the brain.

Delmarva Power charged me $329 for electricity in a house that is being remodeled and is vacant.
No washer/dryer, refrigerator turned off, stove not used and heat turned down to 55. No hot water usage and hardly any lights are ever on.
THEN, these ripoff artists send me a note that says i am using 17% more electricity than my neighbors (with children and a family, occupying the houses full time!
Since they make it impossible to actually speak to a human, I had to send them an e-mail. I told them to have someone call me and explain how I could have an electric bill of several hundred dollars when NO ONE LIVES THERE!
They still haven't called me.

Because they CAN'T explain it. And there is not much anyone can do about it. Legally.
In the next revolution in America, they better start running.

They can't explain it. I went away for three months emptied the fridge drained the pipes and turned the water off and shut the electric off at the box and still got a normal electric water and sewer bill. It seems as if they are billing you on a local average use or something and not metering at all. I was worried about a burglary not the utilities robbing me.
