ANNAPOLIS, Maryland — Students in Maryland public schools who fail required vision screenings and do not receive recommended services would be provided free eye examinations and eyeglasses by a new Maryland Department of Health program, under legislation expected to be heard by a Senate committee on Wednesday.
Senate bill 915 and House bill 1242 would create the Vision for Maryland Program, which would coordinate with Johns Hopkins University, local boards of education and local health departments to carry out the eye exams for students and give glasses to them if necessary.
The Ways and Means committee had a hearing for the House bill on March 7, but it has yet to receive a committee vote.

Another benefit to illegals paid by MD tax payer. Add this to the already 2 billion MD tax payers have had to spend on illegals in this sanctuary State. Tax the over 1 million dollar income and not me.
Kids need to see to learn. If they don't learn, they are almost guaranteed to be an additional drain on society's resources.
With single vision glasses in a wide variety of frame styles available online with a prescription for under $30, this could actually be a savings in the long run.
Nothing is free. I am all for helping educate all children, even the poorest who need our help the most. But understand this, NOTHING IS FREE. It's only free for them. We are paying for it.
If the parent are unable to pay the the glasses then the kids should be taken away and made wards of the state.
IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD YOUR KIDS, DON'T MAKE THEM!
Any 2 parent home can afford glasses for their kids for school. If not, you are too poor/ dumb to have kids. I want to keep the money I make to buy glasses for MY kids!
It's a sneaky way for them to give eyeglasses to the illegals.
